A great wide open place to explore. It is possible to climb the ruins and the view is fantastic. Watch yours steps as you go down the stairs. Is it imperative to go with a guide. I went with Mayan Explorers and the guide, Laurentino, was a living encyclopedia! I have learned a lot about mayan architecture and astronomy.

We saw many sites, but these were the most interesting in detail! You can also still climb these, but there's not a temple here. It was a political center.

While the site of Ek Balam is not super big in area, there are a lot of well preserved ruins to explore. Driving from Tulum was easy, the roads are good and the route is well signed. The largest ruin is very impressive. It is one in the area that you can still climb. The stairs are in better shape... More

A great wide open place that is fun to explore. It is rich with history and is well up kept. A lot the best part is the cenote. It is the perfect end to a hot day of exploring.

So my husband & I stayed in the town of Tizimin the night before so we could be close to these ruins to go to early the next day. We started out from Tizimin and saw the initial sign of where to turn to get to these ruins but we never found them. There were no signs after that. We... More

My wife and I have been to four other archaeological sites and we loved Ek Balaam. We traveled with friends and have used the guides at the sites several times. I read up on the site, and wish that I would have printed out the info, and the fee was about $32 US so we declined. It wasn't a problem.... More

We explored these ruins & made the climb of 107 steps to the top of the palace! Fantastic view, and our guide, Debbie, made it very interesting and informative for us! She did a great job explaining the sights we were seeing, and told a lot about the local area and history of the site. i would do this again!

This is a spectacular site. Chichen Itza, Uxmal and Tulum all have their special qualities, but Ek Balam at dusk was unforgettable. The warrior sculptures high up on the temple walls were marvelous, and the whole place feels much less crowded and known than Chichen Itza. But it has its own magic.

Amazing ruins, easy to walk, not as crowded as The Chichen Itza ruins... Amazingly enough they were discovered only 20 yrs ago. Worth a visit. 2 hrs approx. short drive from Valladolid.
