A true gem in the area of Carate Brianza, near Monza, this basilica was built in the 9th century, and it was restored at the end of the 19th century.

It's in the purest Romanesque style, and a few frescoes are still visible.
The interior is divided in three naves, which are separated by columns from a previous building. A crypt is under the main altar, and it is visible: quite nice, but bare...
An imposing silver cross is visible above the main altar

Worth noticing is also the Baptistry on the side of the church, where most frescoes are present.

Around the church there is a nice park; the church is open every day and it is extremely well kept. In addition - wonder, wonder - they do not sell anything (i.e. souvenirs, sacred images, tourist stuff), differently from most churches: Kudos!!!

Well worth a visit if you are in the vicinity. Don’t miss the Battistero in the courtyard - among the frescos, the portrait is striking

If you are in the area of Monza and Brianza you should not miss visiting the historical Romanic Basilica dei Santi Pietro e Paolo, in Agliate, near Carate Brianza, built in the eleventh century.
It is simply beautiful inside and you'll admire its external architecture as well.
It is surrounded by a small park you can walk in and watch the church from different points of view

St.Peter and Paul Basilica in Agliate, with its baptistery is one of the most ancient examples of the Romanesque Age art in Lombardy. It probably dates back to the first half of the XIth Century.
Inside, the church with nave and two aisles, has a woodden roofing and reveals, under the floor, a crypt and parts of more ancient buildings of the Vth century.
