I have planed to see a lot of sight just for few days. Lago Heneral Carrera/Buenos Aires is the best option for do it. We have started from Balmaceda airport in Chile, cross the board through Palavicini (north side of a Lake). You have two risks on this way: first -unpaved road with sharp turns, climbs and bends after Puerto Ingenero Ibanez; second - roll neck considering the unique beauty of the scenery. After the board crossing you need endure many kilometers of boring Argentinian unpaved road. Don't expect to wait a help from a coming car. Most likely you will remain one for many hours. But Northern side of a lake could be you gold prize for a hard work. We return to the Lake from other side after Perito Morena and Cuevas de los Manos visit. We approached the shore in windy and rainy day, but was impossible to stay in the car. Probably Argentinian side (East of a lake) is always windy. But you must see it. The fact that the lake is "live". It opens with each point in different ways. I never have seen so many colors of the water. From white to black, but usually different shades of green and blue. In Chile Chico we had a nice stay for one night and started again to the mountain terns, climbs and bands with the same risks that in the first part of our trip. Don't forget Cathedral de Marmol, Laguna verde, diamond rivers and waterfalls around the lake. You need good driver experience, 4X4 wheel and you will have the bes vacations just for 5-7 days.

What a fantastic spectacle this lake is on a warm still sunny day. Los Antiguos sits on the side of this and if you’re on route and passing through stop for awhile and enjoy the scenery and tranquility.

Large lake straddling Patagonia Andes on Chile and Argentina border
Oct 2015 • Business
Major south american lake called Lago General Carrera in Chile and Lago Buenos Aires in Argentina. Small border towns of Chile Chico and Los Antiguos separated by a river and few kilometers. Major tourist attraction in this part of Patagonia. Beautiful and unique scenery of the lake and Andes Mountains. Wild, windy and cold most of the year. Remote location with 6 to 8 hour's drive and ferry from airport in Balmaceda, Chile or 8 hour drive from Comodoro Rivadadiva in Argentina.
