Goede morgen! Going to Norway was already an adventure with so many beautiful things to see, but the Trolltunga hike certainly became one of my favourite activities of the entire week. Fair warning if you go when weather conditions aren't great: Norway is ruthless and you will suffer if you don't do something like this regularly.
But it is worth it. When you finally see the clouds clearing, sun coming through, looking down the valley you will feel sensations of awe for nature. Ending at the rock you'll look down and be happy you did it. My friends and I certainly did.
Besides these beautiful viewpoints, we also had some great guides. Richard delivered the jokes, Sigrid the authority and moral support and Natalia brought the spirits and engaging talks about the flora and fauna, as well as the occasional talk about something like Lord of the Rings. Perfect combination of humour, strength and kindheartedness.
They will also take lots of pictures you'll get later, so you can share the experience online, something I'll be doing once I get home.
In sum, I would recommend the Trolltunga hike with 5 / 5 stars without any doubt. Do prepare accordingly though, both with food and clothes, as well as some physical training, and I assure you will have an unforgettable experience. God tur!

Sunset/Sunrise hike
Our guided hike to Trolltunga with Trolltunga Active was exceptional from start to finish! It was our honeymoon and so we booked a private guide and dome tent - it was an expensive way of doing the hike but 100% worth it.
Esther our guide was incredible, her knowledge of and enthusiasm for the surroundings made the hike all the more enjoyable. The equipment that Trolltunga Active gave us (poles and snow shoes) made the hike a lot more manageable because even at the end of May, there was a lot of snow at the top of the mountain!
The domes were super cosy, the view was incredible and the food was delicious.
The whole hike was super enjoyable, the views were just incredible. It is absolutely not just about the picture on the tongue, you have to be in it for the entire experience! However, once you reach your destination of the tongue it is 100% worth it!
We loved every minute of the 2 days we spent hiking with Esther and would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone considering it!
NB/: remember to take sunglasses and sun cream even if it seems cloudy!! The snow reflect the UV up into your face and eyes!!

We had a fabulous weekend trip to Trolltunga. Saturday began with a 6km cycle ride then we climbed Via Ferrata then a short walk about 30-40mins where we arrived at our dome for an overnight stay. That evening we walked to Trolltunga and took the necessary photos. Hardly any people there so no queuing. The next day we climbed back down again rather than walk. Well worth the effort.
We had an amazing guide, Camille, that made our trip even better. While she prepared our meal Saturday we took the walk to Trolltunga with another guide Karoline, who was also excellent. These kind of trips are made so much better by those you are with so we were very grateful to have 2 super guides with us. I thoroughly recommend this trip if you want an active weekend and scenery that is quite out of this world.

The group meets at 7:30 at the P2 carpark and Jana (our guide for the day) was very careful to think about equipment we need and even packed some extra gear in her bag in case it rained or someone needed hiking poles. She was also careful to check whether we all had enough food or had specific requirements (dodgy joints etc).
During the hike, Jana was careful to see when particular members of the group might need a break and instead of pointing this out to everybody, she would stop and tell us a local legend or piece of history. She also taught us a lot about the flora and fauna.
The hike itself has really beautiful views and is not not technically difficult - there is 1km of tough stairs at the start but otherwise it's just long.
I'd absolutely recommend spending the money for the following reasons:
1) Great guide and knowledge on gear needed based on the weather
2) Lots of local history & legends
3) The bus directly to P3 (meaning we avoided an additional 9km of walking on steep road by starting at P2)
4) Great photos, since the guides take your picture from a particularly good position/angle, whilst hanging off the cliff face
5) If you're lucky, your other hikers are a really fun bunch of people

A very unique and memorable way to experience Trolltunga! We went on the Sunset / Sunrise hike with 10 other people including our two fantastic guides: Stepan & Lucyann. They not only made the beautiful hike even more enjoyable with little stories / information throughout but also acted as brilliant hosts when we arrived at the domes at the top. The hike is a little bit challenging at parts but is made a lot easier being split over two days, with lots of breaks to refill your bottle with fresh, glacial meltwater! Given the times of day that you are hiking compared to those just doing the day hike, it results in Trolltunga being empty when you arrive which makes a huge difference as in the summer months the queue can be up to 2 hours (allegedly)!
The stay overnight was very comfortable and the domes are just as picturesque as they look online. We were fortunate with conditions and were able to have dinner outside and then enjoyed some local cider around a fire as the sun went down. Breakfast was also delightful with views across the lake & surrounding mountains. I think this experience would be incredible 99% of the time but again a huge thank you to Stepan & Lucyann for making it so fun, enjoyable and memorable - definitely recommend!

We had booked a guided tour as this was our first real hike and wanted to have the best experience during the day and we were not disappointed!!
Our guides Beñat and Camille were great company and we really enjoyed the entire day. We knew it was going to be a long day, but time just flew by and we got away with the most amazing photos in the end!
Can only recommend to book a guide to make the most of the experience! It’s possible to hike on your own, as the trail is well marked, but you will not regret booking with Trolltunga Adventure.
Please note, you will have to pay to take the shuttle down from P3 to P2, but that’s something you will happily do after a long day!

First, Trolltunga is so beautiful, and you should definitely do it, if you are unsure. Amazing hike!!! We did the hike in October, which is shoulder/off-season and thought we were required to have a guide to even go on the trails. For that reason, we booked this guided tour, which was pricey (about $140-150 per person). Turns out, we didn’t need a guide.
There was only one guide assigned to our group of 8-10. He was nice, but he was really there to pace you and nothing more. We have done guided hikes all over the world (Andes, Nepal, etc.), and usually for a group, there is at least two guides. The only equipment we got from the guide was shoe cleats (for walking on ice), but when we were on the trail, we found they didn’t even fit us! Very frustrating!
The pace was very fast (likely because less sunlight hours), and we dropped out of the group after the first ascend. We ended up going alone at our own pace and made it up just fine. I wish we had just started earlier on our own, but now we know!
I honestly don’t know if it’s just the guide we got. Felt like a total waste of money. If you go during shoulder season, and the snow isn’t heavy, I would skip the guide. The trail is very clear and easy to follow even with snow and ice.

We signed up for the sunset-sunrise winter hike. Coming from tropical climate country, we were concerned about hiking in the snow and cold weather. Trolltunga Active was very responsive in replying all our email enquiries. We booked our stay Trolltunga hotel for two nights, one before the hike and another after. We attended the briefing and they did a great job providing all the necessary information for our preparation. On the day of hike, they picked us up at the hotel and introduced to our guide Angel. During the entire hike, he kept us motivated and shared his knowledge on snow hiking and much more. It’s one of our best hike. Except the cold weather, Angel helped to ensure that our stay in the dome is comfortable. We felt like so well taken care during the entire activity. After the hike, they even give us a ride back to our hotel. Thank you so much to Trolltunga Active and our guide Angel.

I did the Via Ferrata day trip to visit Trolltunga and it could not have been more perfect. Everything was very well organized, the trip was extremely safe and the guides were knowledgeable and very nice.
It was physically demanding with the bicycle the via ferrata and the walk but the weather was fantastic and there was almost no tourists at the top.
I highly recommend Trooltunga active and especially the Via Ferrata activity.

I did the Trolltunga Sunset-Sunrise Combo, which is the Via Ferrata on the way up, camping for the night in the igloo tents, and then the hike to trolltunga in the morning and back down. My guide for the Via Ferrata was Øyvind, he was awesome and we got on great, we chatted throughout the journey and the Via Ferrata was a great experience, i'd never done one before and it was a bit of a thrill and the views were great. When we got to the top we were joined by the hiking group who has Norine as their guide. Norine and Øyvind were great hosts and the experience of camping on the top was really fun, the dinner and snacks provided were lovely too. Øyvind brought some local cider for us to try and educated us all on the local production and history. Norine educated us on all the things that she believes Switzerland does better than anywhere else. She redeemed herself the next day but carrying my water bottle so my fingers didn't freeze. All in all the whole experience was really great, and for me the best part was the people; both the two guides and also the other travellers on the tour. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who wants to do something that most people don't get to do, and have a great time doing it. Norine and Øyvind were great!

This is on my bucket list since I have cleared the Kerajbolten & Pulpit! How many pax max for the dome stay? Will photo for the trips and on the tongue be included (or do we pay for the pictures/videos separately?) what are other cost driver and extra to factor in?
Written May 7, 2022
For the Trolltunga Via ferrata + sunset/sunrise combo tour, what time do you arrive back at the starting point the following day after completing the hike?
Written December 10, 2020
Is it possible to book the dome on an exclusive use basis? Could one just book all the spots on the hike and only take 2 people? Does the guide share the dome? Price is not a concern.
Written July 2, 2020
Thank you very much for your question! Yes, you can book the domes privately in order to have it for yourselves. Then the guide doesn't stay with you either. He/she will still accompany you on your tour, tell stories, give information and prepare dinner and breakfast for you, but as soon as you want privacy, the guide will retreat. We have a preset price if you want to book the whole dome. On the website you'd have to book for 6 people, but you can send an inquiry by email, then we'll get back to you! We hope to be able to welcome you as our guest soon :)
All the best,
Esther

Hello, I am coming in march (7th-9th)and would love to book a winter hike. My friends and I would love to go out on the tounge but I understand sometimes guides deem it unsafe because of ice. does this happen a lot on march? will there be a good chance we can not go out onto the tongue?
Written February 18, 2020
At the moment its ok to walk down. But if we get a warm period and the cold, we often get ice on the access to Trolltunga, and then we cant go down. Its a 300 m freefall below:) Just have to wait and see.

When you arrive to trolltunga after the viaferata, how much time do we have to wait to take the famous picture on the trolltunga ?
Written August 4, 2019
Dear Soliane, sorry for the late reply! The waiting time differs greatly from day to day and with the weather. The maximum waiting time can bd up to 2.5hrs but that happens very rarely. On average you might have to wait half an hour during the peak season.
