During the first lockdown that started in March 2020 I was desperate to find somewhere local but also quiet where I could stretch my legs and think. This place is perfect. Not too long and feels so remote going to this place.

It would be possible to drive through the centre of this monument and not realise it is there. However, once you can find your way onto the ancient rampart, you realise just how vast and impressive a fortification it is. Signage and access could be better and we could have saved it until the better weather!

A most rewarding circular walk around the ramparts of this Iron Age hill fort. Grazed by sheep and occupied by thorn trees festooned with sheep's wool, it can be a bit bleak in cold weather. In summer, you should be treated to the sight and sound of a fast-disappearing local attraction - the skylark.

Segsbury Camp is on the Ridgeway just above the village of Letcombe Regis also well worth a visit. The views from the Ridgeway are spectacular on a fine day and it is worth taking the time to walk a distance along the patch to take in the ancient road.
