By chance myself and my girlfriend were driving along Thung Khe Pass on the bikes as we were inventing our own bike loop around Mai Chau.
Absolutely fantastic views from this little restaurant while it feels like this structure shouldn't even be standing!
With the little Vietnamese we had we managed to get a lovely lunch and beers for a modest price.

Nice stop on the way Hanoi - Mai Chau. The valley's view from the pass is really nice, Fresh local fruits & food are sold by local ethnic people along the way. However, it is hard to find a standard WC there.

Travelling in a bus the 135 km from Hanoi to Mai Chau, in Hoa Binh Province, our driver pulled over to the right hand side of the road about 25 km short of our destination.
It was Thung Khe Pass on Vietnam Highway 6, a twisting, winding road that often runs dangerously close to the 1,000 m drop to the valley below. Sensational!
Perched precariously on the edge of the cliff 1,000 m above the valley below, are stalls selling snacks, drinks, local herbs and spices, and a range of local forest orchids.
We sat on a bamboo mat in one of the stalls and ate a local speciality, sticky rice cooked in a bamboo stick and served with a salty herbed dip.
Far below us was a patchwork of rice padi, streams, small villages and patches of bamboo forests.
And across the valley floor, another mountain range rose to an equal height to where we were sitting.
It was only a 20 minute break on our four hour journey to our eventual destination, but was most memorable.

On the way from Hanoi to Mai Châu at the side of the way there is this point where you can see a very nice view of the valley.

it's a nice driving from Mai Chao to Son La, and there are some nice views from the Thung Khe pass down to the valley in the lowland. I was positively surprised by the good roads and the relatively small traffic.

The pass covers with white clouds and beauty mountains. We got a beautiful view from a top and visit a local market!

This is a stop on the way from Hanoi to Mai Chau. It is basically on the side of the road with several street food stalls and a wonderful view of the valleys. It's great just to look at the various offerings if you don't want a snack. Not the toilet facilities are very basic.

It’s the most beautiful nature view. I saw some couples there on the top. It’s extremely romantic, isn’t?
However, the way to get there is a little hard.
