This was a huge disappointment. Very worn narrow roads on the way up with rocks continuously falling from above and a landslide wiped out 200 meters that had to be tentatively crossed on foot. The pony ride up was good but don’t expect adjustable stirrups. The two major disappointments were the amount of rubbish littering the track especially around the rest points. And the worse was arriving at the Meadows to find the fairies long gone, displaced by a random assortment of chalet huts and “hotels” that completely covered the imagined pristine Alpine meadow.
On the plus side and the reason to do to was the superb view of Nanga Parbat and it’s roaring glacial river.
If you are looking for peace and serenity don’t go.

Fairy Meadows has become a victim of its own success. In the past couple of years, it's become overrun with mainly domestic tourists while not having the infrastructure to cope with with the onslaught of the crowds.
Huts built for 2 are occupied by six to eight, and then there is the "tented city" that springs up in season. Loads of new building activity - cheap construction of unattractive design is thrown together quickly to milk the tourism boom. Overall, the number of visitors have far exceed the carrying capacity of the place.
And it shows. The trek up and down, the meadow itself and the walking treks around the area are full of litter - plastic bottles and bags, wrappers, cardboard boxes - carelessly thrown away and piling up left and right. No clean-up efforts, no waste management .... and it will only become worse as the crowds keep flooding in. It's heartbreaking to see as only a few years ago, this was a stunning and pristine environment that's fast being ruined.
Then there is the bumper to bumper traffic and 'dust eating' on the ride up. Expect traffic jams and cowboy driving ... and given the narrow road and steep drop-offs, its downright dangerous. It's an "accident waiting to happen".
I stayed at the Raikot Serai Cottages, apparently the "best" option up there. Hands-down one of the filthiest places I ever stayed at in my many years of traveling - for ridiculous money.
Then was kept awake until 3.00 am by loud music. A large group of students from Lahore was up in the mountains partying. Apparently its become one of the 'It' places to go partying. Was told that it's much worse in season - forget about a good nights rest then.
Going to Fairy Meadows for a few days is not cheap. And for the money, there is far better. Some in Pakistan (and go soon before it spoils as well) - but my advice is go look elsewhere.

Very nice place specially the tracking.. It was very nice experience. Weather was awesome. Night was bit cold and rain made it worse. Landsliding was the issue too after rain but we manage to way back home..

Beards about this place and the views as you trek up are amazing.
When you get to the top it is disappointing the place is not looked after better.

It’s easy to see why Fairy Meadows is called by its name. It is indeed lovely! We camped there for two nights, better to camp than to book a room. A room with five to six mattresses cost PKR 1,500 -3000 per night which is OK but the attached bathrooms are no good. Better to use the toilet and shower available outside while sleeping in your own tent; however, you would have to pay around PKR 400-500/night to use the hotel premises to set up camp. This will entitle you to hotel facilities as well including toilets, warm shower (early mornings only), kitchen, bonfire. Now the bad point: hotels throw their trash out in the open in one corner of the meadows which is highly deplorable! However, if you could climb a bit higher to go to Beyal Camp or to the base camp of Nanga Parbat, there is nothing like it. The place is not thronged with tourists (not many want to make it there), clean and serene. Local kids are all around you asking for anything you could give them, so be careful of your belongings without being pedantic or you won't be able to enjoy :)

A very peaceful & relaxing place to enjoy the mountain view soaking in the atmosphere & hospitality of the local people. Indeed, it is call "The heaven on earth".
Slow stroll up since its at a high altitude area.
Ditch your wifi and enjoy the scenery here. Over looking at the Nanga Parbat (9th world's tallest mountain) also known as the Killer Mountain. A pity didnt get to head up to the base camp as it was snowing heavily the next day and it could be dangerous and slippery!

Fairy Meadows is famous for its beautiful lush green plateaus and World’s ninth biggest mountain Nanga Parbat (the Killer Mountain) and located in Diamer District of Gilgit-Baltistan Pakistan, at an altitude of about 3,300 meters above the sea level. The place was named Fairy Meadows in 1953 by an Australian climber Hermann Bhul due to its mesmerizing beauty. He was here to climb the peak of Nanga Parbat. He became the first one to summit the mountain. Fairy Meadows is also called “Heaven on Earth” due to its matchless beauty. In 1995, the Government of Pakistan declared Fairy Meadows as a National Park. Fairy Meadows is approachable by a 12 km long jeep track starting from Raikhot bridge on Karakoram Highway to the village Tato. Further from Tato, it takes about three to four hours hiking by a 5km track or by horse to Fairy Meadows.

Too many camps, too many huts, a lot more horses than a meadow can naturally sustain and continuous deforestation has done its best to wreak havoc on this heavenly place but, having said that, one can still visualize the place that prompted the early explorers to call it a fairy land. With fascinating waterfalls, natural springs, and stunning views of multifaceted mountains the trail from meadows to Bial camp can still be called one of the best if not the best in the world.

Yes it is a difficult task. First you may start your travelling from Raicout through Wills Jeep and about 2 hours going upward you reach Tato. From Tato you may hike up, it takes about 5 hours otherwise you may go up with horse which takes 2.5 hours.
