Lovely food

Fantastic food just be aware that the portions are quite big so think before you have a starter the only fault i could find was the selection of lagers is not the best

Best Sunday roast
Feb 2020 • Family
I've been there once before when it was the Yew Tree and recall the food quality being really good back then, but they've stepped the quality up since then - this is about the best Sunday roast I've had in my 4 years living here. Highly recommended.

Love it here
Jul 2019 • Friends
I regularly visit here with a group of friends and we love it here . Good pub food done well !! Decent sized portions , amazing puddings . The pub has a good atmosphere and the tables are spaced so you can chat openly. The bar menu is good as well . Really can’t find anything negative to say , keep up the good work!!!

Ate here tonight, service a shocker!! Menu limited. Food was ok, John dory cooked perfectly, best bit of the evening. In all disappointing, won't be rushing back.
Sister pubs Jack Russel and Dundas Arms far more superior.

Very Nice!
Apr 2019 • Couples
We stopped here for lunch on our way home today. The pub had a really lovely feel about it and the staff were very welcoming. The menu was small and, for us, not over exciting. My hubby had the pie of the day which was like a shepherds pie but with game instead which was slightly salty but otherwise very nice. I had fish of the day, Hake, served with seaweed gnocchi (slightly odd tasting!) which again was very nice. So nothing exciting but as I keep saying very nice! Would be go back? Perhaps but probably not!

I have been to this pub many times before. It appears to have changed hands and lots of the original decor has gone.
The restaurant was quiet on a Friday evening. Only 2 staff on duty. The burger for my son was average. The fish was small. The pub was cold with no fire lit.

Short notice booking with overseas guests in January. The Yew Tree didn't fail. One of our group wished to try a variety of food tastes with their meal, staff were very obliging and accommodating of the somewhat, at times, confusing request, but came up trumps, particularly with desserts. All foods were delicious. An evening to remember for our guests, relaxed, unrushed and enjoyable.

Utterly underwhelming breakfast!
Dec 2018 • Family
Sadly, with a day at Highclere planned, we wanted to find somewhere nearby for breakfast. The Yew Tree has mixed reviews but we thought we would risk it. I emailed the day before to ask if they served breakfast and if I could book a table but no reply! On arrival at 0950, they had to check with the kitchen if breakfast was available despite the website saying it was offered until 1030. The full English was utterly underwhelming with a paltry desert spoon amount of beans and a mushroom and tomato that looked like they had seen better days or been zapped in a microwave. My wife’s avocado toast looked very sad with avocado that lacked that fresh green appearance. A long way from the days of Marco Pierre White sadly!

“We don’t want your business”
Nov 2018 • Couples
Having arrived for a birthday meal at the prearranged time of 6.30pm with my disabled father, who is in a wheel chair, we went to the side door as told. There was no outside lighting and the door opens onto the road. Despite having called twice to confirm our arrival at the prearranged time the door was locked. Leaving my parents, husband and son by the door outside in the sleet I went inside and asked the lady behind the bar to open the door. She was immediately rude and told me that the door had to remain locked as it’s a fire door, but had I called in advance it would have been open. Finally it was opened, the door way was only just wide enough for the wheelchair and there was a very ungainly deep step into the bar with no ramp. An ungainly, unsafe, painful and undignified entrance for anyone in a wheelchair and not helped that we were all cold and wet by now. I now told the rude bar lady that we had called to confirm the arrival time twice and again she just said it’s a fire door it had to remain locked. No apology, no concern, no solution or course of action suggested. Just hostility and rudeness from her. We suggested that we were going to leave as this was not the atmosphere that we wished to spend our evening in. She said she didn’t want our buisness. We will not be returning and cannot comment on the food.

Sunday Lunch
Oct 2018 • Friends
On a positive note the service was fine. Efficient enough and friendly.
The food however was very disappointing. 3 of us had the Sunday roast. All the roasted veg was burnt. The vegetarian was given no alternative to meat. No nut roast or similar veggie substitute for meat, just extra vegetables. One person had a burger and chips which was average. Pretty dreadful really.
