The archaeological museum of Nemea is located within the main archaeological site and 500m from the ancient stadium. It consists of 2 large halls with exhibits from the Mycenaean, Geometric and Classical periods. The representation of the roof of the temple and some models of the wider space are interesting. In half an hour you can see it in detail.

We wanted to complete a regional trip and I think the visit there did the trick overall, but equally we could have gone somewhere else and we wouldn't have missed much. The staff at the site were pleasant and kind, it was nice to walk through the museum but there was nothing extraordinary there. Since I had read about the mythological story of Hercules in Nema, I was quite hopeful that we would be able to get to the tunnels mentioned in the story, but it was explained to me that at the time we arrived there were dangerous snakes in the area and it would be difficult to get there with the children.

Small, but informative. It certainly makes sense to read about it before you visit the Temple of Zeus.

Nice museum at site of dig in ancient Nemea. Great artistic seals, and i was interested in some handheld weights that helped jumpers go farther.
The museum has terrific treasures and we were fortunate to be accompanied by an archeologist who had dug on and studied the site. Find a guide with whom you can troop around the ruins and museum. The Museum, surprisingly, does not have a good shop nor particularly educational labels.
The story goes that a nursemaid, against advice, put baby Opheltes down in a bed of celery, and it was killed by a snake. The museum has a little totem of the baby and athletes at the Nemean games -- dedicated to Opheltes-- were crowned with celery greens.
The museum has windows with gorgeous views of the temple and majestic mountains of this historic wine-growing region.

The entry fee that you pay entering the Stadium let you visit on the other side of the road the Zeus temple (that I who knows why called Apollo temple in my other reviews) and the Museum as well.
The Museum was donated by the University of California. To consider how many treasures were robbed and kept by England, rather they should have to give donations to the Greek archeological sites.
This museum is small but beautifully displays various interesting artifacts. They exhibit findings not only from the Sanctuary of Nemean Zeus but little treasures from the surrounding area as well. The most important is the Aidonia Treasure, that is grave offerings from the cemetery of Aidonia. It contains jewelry from the Mycenean cemetery that dates to the 15th century B.C.
Maquette, photos a lot of pottery, a bronze hydria with a female head, a statue base (the statue is missing), and a marble Corinthian capital are on display in an on-site museum. There are photos, drawings, and lithographs from travelers from the 18th century and later.

A wonderful, low-key smaller archeological site. It felt like we had the whole place to ourselves for a leisurely stroll through ancient history.

We parked up at 2pm on Thursday 20th December and it was closed due to lack of personnel. It doesn’t say if orwhen it will reopen, this includes the museum and the stadium. Absolutely gutted as had driven a long long way to see this.

This museum was interesting in so far as it complemented the adjacent archaeological site with photos of the site across the years - especially the main temple as it grew from its first three columns to its current nine.

For more details on the overall experience, see my review of Ancient Nemea. Two things that are particularly fun to see while at the museum are the various models showing the region at different times in history, and the video that shows how the starting system worked for the ancient races.

They have a lot of artefacts relating to the games and the panels tell all about the events and the stadium. Good plumbing exhibits too. I think this is one of the nicest sites to visit, not too big and well presented. Best of all no hoards of tourists on buses.

I would like to take a group of high school students to see the stadium in June 2018. Will we be able to visit the athletics track? What is the cost involved and how will I go about arranging such a visit?
Thanks
Estelle
