Everyone knows about the Lady Isabella (to be honest, you can’t miss it.) and everyone flocks to visit. This was the site of one of the most important lead mines in the C19th and lead was taken by rail to the washing floors a short...More

Very impressed. A small line, best visited as part of a visit to Laxey Mines & Wheel. Excellent job on such a short (but very unique line). As a heritage railway volunteer myself I can really appreciate the effort gone into such a fantastic set...More

Thanks for your review, I think you must have been down in the afternoon as it went very quiet after a hectic morning. Keep up the good work as a volunteer, there are never enough!

In addition to the Mountain Railway, Laxey also plays host to the Great Laxey Mines Railway, the cost of which is covered by the £16 per person Go card. The day we visited two engines, one steam (Ant), the other battery powered (Wasp), were working...More

Small mine train - on our trip pulled by Ant - a replica of the originall mine engine. Journey lasts approx 4 minutes and worth the £1 charge to experience its snug fit through the tunnel.

Mandy Thanks for you review. We are pleased you enjoyed your trip and kept your head down going through the tunnel!

We loved this marvellously restored little piece of Isle of Man lead mining history. The team have restored it on the original footprint, with great care, and made exact replicas of historical 1800s engines and trucks - plus the modern addition of passenger carriages of...More

Thank you for your kind comments TT (very apt for the Isle of Man!) It is good to hear that the efforts of a small band of volunteers are appreciated by so many people.

This is only a very short ride in both directions from close to the railway station to close to the Laxey Wheel. Only operating on Saturdays, it is an obvious add-on to a visit to the wheel as opposed to making a special visit. Operated...More

Thank you for your review. We are pleased you enjoyed your ride, especially through the longest tunnel in the Isle of Man (don't tell anyone it's the only tunnel!)

This was wonderful. Having relatives who worked in the mines, this tour was an amazing piece of my history. It gave me a sense of what my ancestors did for a living. The weather was perfect and I learned a lot about this area. I...More

Thank you for your lovely review. Laxey is steeped in industrial history and we are proud to be an integral part of that. Please come back and see us sometime!

Amazingly cute little railway with two miniature locomotives, Ant and Bee that take you very close to the Laxey Wheel, so it makes a lot of sense to combine these two attractions. The railway is run entirely by very friendly volunteers who know a lot...More

Thank you for your kind comments. The volunteers work hard to make it more than just a ride on a train and it is great to see our efforts appreciated.

Although this is only a short trip it is well worth taking advantage of the inclusion on the Go card. The ride through the little tunnel is not for claustrophobics.

To be honest the restaurants are neither particularly exciting nor particularly good value for money as well as being no different from restaurants anywhere else. The trains and trams however are unique to the Isle of Man... More
