Sometimes known as the Vaser Valley Railway, the forestry railway of Viseu de Sus is a unique example of technical cultural heritage. Travelling over a network of some 60 kilometers of narrow-gauge track, you can still find wood-burning steam locomotives running alongside several diesels and railcars. The CFF Viseu de Sus ("CFF" stands for "Caile Ferate Forestiere" - forestry railway in Romanian language) is probably the last real forestry railway still operating with steam locos in Europe. For the enjoyment of our numerous visitors, we are keeping the tradition of steam railways alive in Viseu de Sus, offering regular steam trains, charter trains with catering services and trains for special events.

With the CFF, we went for the basic package, which included a one night stay in a disused railway carriage, a four course dinner and a buffet breakfast, plus the ticket for the steam train the next day! We thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The night...More

The scenery was the best feature of this trip. There were a few people organising seating (in a sllightly impolite manner) at first, but no one present to intermediate disputes when people randomly took other persons' seats on the return trip, a lot of people...More

I'm very happy we still have such incredible places! I had the feeling I was back 100 years ago. The landscape is stripped of fairy tales, the railroad is the narrowest in Europe, the benches of the train are made of wood, the oldest locomotive...More

We had the pleasure of visiting the Vaser Valley by Mocănița Steam Train late April. It was excellent. We arrived at the Vișeu de Sus Train Station about 10:35, 5 minutes late. So we missed the depart. But... The great people at the train station,...More

The steam train will take you on a relatively small journey, but the low speed ride will let you plenty of time to admire the spectacular landscapes. We tried first time 10 years ago to take the trip, we miss it, and we didn’t wake...More

It is a long way from Bucharest to Viseu de Sus and if your only objective is the logging railway, it really is not worthwhile. We had a car rental and spent three weeks touring Romania. The train ride was a way of taking a... More
