Description:

Sometimes known as the Vaser Valley Railway, the forestry railway of Viseu...

Sometimes known as the Vaser Valley Railway, the forestry railway of Viseu de Sus is a unique example of technical cultural heritage. Travelling over a network of some 60 kilometers of narrow-gauge track, you can still find wood-burning steam locomotives running alongside several diesels and railcars. The CFF Viseu de Sus ("CFF" stands for "Caile Ferate Forestiere" - forestry railway in Romanian language) is probably the last real forestry railway still operating with steam locos in Europe. For the enjoyment of our numerous visitors, we are keeping the tradition of steam railways alive in Viseu de Sus, offering regular steam trains, charter trains with catering services and trains for special events.

It's a must, if you reach Viseu and Maramures area. The old forest train in the Vaser Valley, converted from logs transport to civil. Is better to reserve ticket in advance, the train is quite crowded.

Strongly recommend this half day trip. The landscapes that you see from the "mocanita" train are unique and fabulous, and cannot compare to what you see by car on your way to Viseul de sus. The lunch stop is beautiful and they serve a bountiful meal, deserts and drinks in the middle of the nature, near the river. After lunch,... More

it was a good experience but we couldn't find a way to buy the tickets online. As such we bought them there, but we didn't find a seat next day, so we had to wait one more day to get a seat.

The whole experience is amazing and the Vaser valley offers you an unique landscape. For the train and the journey I would give a 5/5 rating but for the whole organization and the people I only have a 2/5 rating. Why? You can only book on the phone if you are willing to buy a special packet (including the ticket... More

The journey through Vaser Valley with the Mocanita train is a must for anyone who wants to get acquainted with the wild, unspoiled side of Maramures. The trip in itself though can be a little long for kids (like our 4 year old, for eg.) : it starts at 9 am and you`ll get back to the starting point at... More

Upsides: Nice surroundings, loved riding the old train, very helpful staff Downsides: Regret purchasing the special package, food was not that great and the price quite high. Leg room in the carts sucked, four adult males cannot fit onto four seats on the benches. At the picnic stop I would advise against stopping to eat. You can spend the 90... More

+++ Visiting Vaser Valley on the steam train is a very nice experience. The landscape is amazing and also hearing the old steam locomotive chuffing and puffing up the hill is nice. The trip takes around 5 hours: one way - 2 hours (with small stops), 1h30 - picnic at the destination and return - 2 hours. Buy the tickets... More

Even they are really efficient with ticket selling they are not so accurate in description of the touristic tour. The travel route are always following the valley river, this is the only panorama you can see all the time. The train it takes more than 2 hours outward voyage and 2 hours reversion, all included 15 minutes stops. All the... More

Nice for our boys but it was just too long. Quite frankly, if you've done any driving in the Romanian countryside, then the views from the train are nothing new. Bit of a waste of a day. The food at the top looks disgusting, so take a picnic.

Nice, peaceful trip. Great views. Possibility to eat something fast at the terminal station. There is even a so called reastaurant waggon, where you can drink a cold beer and locat spirit made out of some black berries - afinata.
