Sometimes known as the Vaser Valley Railway, the forestry railway of Viseu de Sus is a unique example of technical cultural heritage. Travelling over a network of some 60 kilometers of narrow-gauge track, you can still find wood-burning steam locomotives running alongside several diesels and railcars. The CFF Viseu de Sus ("CFF" stands for "Caile Ferate Forestiere" - forestry railway in Romanian language) is probably the last real forestry railway still operating with steam locos in Europe. For the enjoyment of our numerous visitors, we are keeping the tradition of steam railways alive in Viseu de Sus, offering regular steam trains, charter trains with catering services and trains for special events.

I'm very happy we still have such incredible places! I had the feeling I was back 100 years ago. The landscape is stripped of fairy tales, the railroad is the narrowest in Europe, the benches of the train are made of wood, the oldest locomotive...More

The steam train will take you on a relatively small journey, but the low speed ride will let you plenty of time to admire the spectacular landscapes. We tried first time 10 years ago to take the trip, we miss it, and we didn’t wake...More

The ride with the steam train is an unique experience. We had luck with the weather so it was even more beautiful. I missed only few informations in English as the staff was telling the history of the train only in Romanian language.

A relaxing way to spend a day. The railway follows the Vaser river valley and so winds its way up into the hills. The termination point serves as a meal stop, with the food and staff brought up on the train. Buy your meal ticket...More

Enjoyed a fantastic Steam Train journey through the Vaser Valley. Truly recommend anyone to do this if you are travelling in the Maramures.

An unforgettable experience : beautiful mountain landscapes , very good organization , old traditions , welcoming people , traditional costumes , machinery revived. The first time I felt really good, but the second time within a few years , I was thrilled .

It is a long way from Bucharest to Viseu de Sus and if your only objective is the logging railway, it really is not worthwhile. We had a car rental and spent three weeks touring Romania. The train ride was a way of taking a... More

Hello, We stay with three friends in Maramures in june and we plan to make the Valley Tour with the Mocanita Special on Friday the 17th. Reading the answer on the question above, I suppose that booking in advance is advisable. If so, where can you make such a reservation in order to avoid that the train is fully booked on the day of arrival? Many thanks, Evert
