Amazing water falls, pristine beauty, so pure , so refreshing .In monsoons the water veloscity is tremendous & so one should not get into the stream near the falls. Not many people go there so one can spend time leisurely around it. Monsoon is the best time to be there.

Chelavar Falls is a beautiful environment
The road near is next to the coffee estate and if you walk 200 meters you will see Chelavara. You can see the falls but locals are advised not to go near the water.
Because last year 20 tourists lost their lives in the water
And my bad experience in this fall's rock was slippery
And its too much deep near 100 to 150 feet!
Anyway my advise you go to down near falls but dont touch water because some poisonous water snake are there in water and near rocks
Anyway i swim in this fall's and explored well
Once you check my youtube channel

It is a secluded place.. you need to climb down a pucca path with no steps.. it can get quite scary if you are alone or a couple.. recommended for groups of four or more..

I am writing this as of 2nd june. We went to visit Chelvara falls via Virajpeth Talakauvery road. The road takes left for falls and is inaccessible because of road construction. Our whole journey to place was wasted because of this. Updating this so that other people can plan accordingly.

A nice little trek will take you to the Chelavara Falls. Not much of water when we went. The place is very peaceful as it was not crowded. We could sit there and watch the water flow and beauty of nature for hours. Wish there was a check to stop people from littering.

Its far from Madikeri and we went there on our way to Tala Cauvery. You cannot go to the base of the falls, just have a view from above. The way to down is completely fenced. The water is running low now. A complete waste of time if you go in this period.

Chelvara Falls,
&
Chomakundu Hills, Vijarpet, Coorg.
• A natural waterfall formed by small streams on the tributary of Kaveri (near Cheyyandane village – Google gives the correct location) {16 km from Virajpet}.
• This Beautiful and scenic waterfall and surrounding make a huge gift by mother nature and is a part of a private property!
• Chomakundu (Separately Reviewed) is another mountain Area full of nature (On the way) with many Mini-Trekking options (Safer)
• HONESTLY speaking only to visit the Chelavara Falls not very worth (there is nothing else to see), as we are not allowed to reach the water, as it is dangerous (Unfortunately, many human lives were lost here). Chelavara Falla is said to be 100 Feet deep, with the water flow having high suction, where even expert swimmers can lose their control. Overall, Abbey Fall is much better!
• We suggest to make the trip more enjoyable, to visit (Bike reaches almost the 2nd & the top peak) KABBE HILLS (VIEW POINT) which is roughly 2 KMs from here. (Separately reviewed)
• We passed two Resorts (Coorg Summer Palace & “Now or Never Land”) to reach Chelavara Falls
• One can see the falls after walking after walking a few meters (into the forest) from the parking.
• Kindly respect the “Danger signs Boards”- they are for our safety!
• Isolated place – NO FOOD or water (No proper Restaurants, particularly for Vegies).
• Some stretch of the road also is poor (Accept it as 1 Hr 30 Mins drive).

This is a very nice little waterfall, where you can take a dip. Mind you, one side of the pool underneath the falls is quite deep. The other side is shallow thought, and you can quite literally walk on it. You can have tons of fun here, as you bathe under the cool fresh waters! Must visit!

IT's a great experience like trekking... There is an average water flow. Can be able to get down on the water. But, with Cautious.
Should have some safety handrails to hold & walk. The walk path need to be improved, as people with small kids may feel risky to get down in to the water fall point.

The water flow was less in April'2018 but the water was clear and pure, means free from dirt pollution etc. Enjoyed the bath along with my son and the water was really cold carry necessary clothing to make yourself warm. Awesome expirence.

is there a need to hire a guide to climb upto the falls or we can do it on our own.?

No guide or any sort of help will be required. You have to climb a little, go down a little and then it appears. Beware of slippery mud and stones and just stand still at the end. Don't try to take a bath.
