We came here for a friend's birthday. It was different and good fun. Very relaxing and for those of you who are creative, this is for you!

When you arrive (suggest you book!), you choose an item you would like to paint and away you go after being briefed.

It was good fun.

Amazing service for me, friends and 3 month baby
Oct 2019 • Family
The ladies here are so helpful. My two friends were going to paint some pieces so I tagged along with my 3 month old baby, thinking I probably would be out of place. However, the kind ladies helped me paint my daughters hands and print them on mugs, and even helped cuddle and entertain the baby while I finished painting the handles! They were so helpful and caring, so thank you for making my experience with my friends and my young baby enjoyable and relaxing for all of us - as sometimes it can be a very challenging with a little one trying to spend time all together with friends. I’m so sorry I can’t remember your names. The items were reasonably priced for the time that you spend there and experience. A personalised gift for someone for around £10, as well as having a nice day is definitely a good price.

Very relaxing

Nice relaxing painting studio with lots of different tools and accessories to use in painting. Plenty of chances to get creative!
The staff we’re very friendly and helpful but seemed very busy - maybe understaffed.

Very rude owner, studio fee??? Would avoid!
Aug 2019 • Couples
I visited and bought a lovely keepsake necklace and they couldn’t do enough! So when I returned with my husband to paint some pottery I expected the same experience. How wrong was I - the owner was very off said we had an hour to complete our piece it was 3:50pm. Why accept us if there wasn’t enough time they are the experts. When I showed my loyalty card she said so you’ve been before I said no - she snapped at me I shouldn’t have received the loyalty points making me feel very embarrassed in front of the other customers! She could just about tell us how to use the paints.
It was only with the help of Chrissie who was kind enough to show us & explain what we needed we managed to complete our pottery. She even offered us a coffee which was very nice. It was a relaxing time till the owner began to speak down to the young girl working there which we could hear and was making us feel even more awkward being there.
We returned to collect the items and was greeted by a smiling Chrissie which was a welcome relief. Our items were ok but the paint matches were not as expected once they were glazed - even though we used the clay moulds on the shelf as guided. As for the studio fee - Reading the other reviews it still doesn’t make sense! As the items here are ridiculous expensive for the quality. I’ve been to several pottery painting studios in Ashford, Hythe & Folkestone and NEVER been charged a studio fee! The items are better quality and reasonable prices and it has been a much more enjoyable experience then here.
Can I also point out while I was waiting at the till to be served the person in front was taken back to be given a bill of £45.
I would honestly advise people to really consider do you want to be humiliated and pay through the nose for an art session???

I am so sorry that you felt that I was rude, it was definitely not my intention. Our hours of opening are 10.00 to 5.00 and we therefore make customers aware of this if there is a limited time to paint. I was surprised when you said you had not been before yet you had a full loyalty card which gives you a free plate/bowl/mug Other studios who do not include a studio fee generally incorporate this charge into the price of the individual items. Different areas have varying overheads to cover so this will effect pricing . Our bisque is sourced from the top suppliers in the UK who supply a vast amount of studios in the country. I will pass on your kind comments to Chrissie, the young girl was my daughter.

You may think it's pricey but it's a great way to spend an afternoon

Have you ever wanted to paint your own ceramics. Then this is the place to do it. There's different ceramics to paint and advice and assistance is always at hand. You may think it's a bit pricey but it's a great way to spend an afternoon

Thank you for your review. We try to keep prices down but unfortunately we are dictated by suppliers and overheads. However having taken a few dats off with my own children I realised how reasonably priced we are , especially when creating memories and you have something to keep at the end.

Shocking Owner!
Mar 2019 • Family
Party for my daughter planned for ages. Turned up early to be faced with a moody irritated owner who told me off for arriving early, for not telling them we wanted to all do the same thing, for taking up too much room, for bringing food when I had already been told I could, she reduced me to tears and then threw the parents of the party girls out as “they were very busy” we were squeezed onto a tiny table whilst a lady with a child had a huge table all to herself

I have spent many hundreds of pounds over the years here and I emailed my complaint to be told by the owner Samantha that I should have been grateful as where else could you have 3 hours for £7 per head and then told me to read the terms and conditions!

The lesson here is if you want to enjoy a special occasion then don’t go to Slap n Dash!

I would just like to respond to so that the actual facts can be stated. You made a booking and did not book a party package. You turned up over an hour early and started panicking that your table was not ready so we rushed around making space, if you had turned up at you allocated time one of the larger tables would have been free. When you make a booking we do not guarantee what items are going to be available on the day and it was unfortunate that one of the items had just been taken off the shelf. I had put by some regular items that I thought the girls may like. As it turned out the girls were all happy with choosing for themselves, as are most 14 Year olds. We specifically said that there is a service charge for food when you made the booking and that we do not give you an additional table (that is for party bookings) and It is our policy that non painters do not take up the space in the studio, especially when we are busy. You also left 25 minutes after our closing time as you and the other parents were standing around chatting and the food was on the table. As stated in my email , and it was not meant in the manner that you stated, there aren’t many places you can go to for 3.5 hours and entertain 6 children for £5.70 Per head for the items you decorated plus £1 per service charge . We have always tried to be accommodating but are now reviewing our booking system as a result of this visit.

Great!
Feb 2019 • Family
Visited here with my mother and my daughter (3 generations of women eager for a drink and something to paint!). We were greeted by a lovely member of the team - Bekah (I think!) who was pleasant and knowledgeable about the paints, service and what was on offer. She let us know what to do and where everything was, whilst stepping back and letting us get on with it at our own pace. I have visited a few of these types of places now and I'm not a fan of the very intrusive approach where staff direct the painting in an attempt to 'help'. This was actually my daughter's rather late birthday treat from her grandmother so we wanted it to be a special and fun experience. Which it was.
My daughter painted a unicorn plate and I, a mug. We all had a drink. I would never have expected drinks to be 'free' so to those who were surprised at having to pay for a cup of tea, I do find this surprising. It was a good cuppa too!
After around 45 minutes, my daughter finished her plate but we weren't quite ready to leave so another staff member produced a lovely assortment of toys for her to play with so she wasn't in the way of anyone else - great idea and much appreciated!
All in all, with the drinks and the pottery we painted it was less than 30 pounds which we felt was reasonable for a special day out; it's not something we would spend everyday, but I believe this is somewhere you would visit now and again, so 30 pounds seems ok. We were also given a loyalty card, which once filled, we were advised we would get a plate to paint for free!

There is a studio fee of 4 pounds to pay on entry, which is not something I have experienced at other venues like this, but having said that, I can quite understand why they need to do it. They are a business after all and I do feel that the pricing structure here was fair. There's such a range of pottery to paint, things to make and do, that you really can choose a 'cheap option' on the pottery side if looking to lower costs.

There was a birthday party going on at the same time and it looked as though they were making stuffed toys - That's on our to do list for next time as my daughters eye's lit up when she realised what the other children were up to!

There are some other lovely items ideal for Mothers day, Christmas, Fathers day etc.

We will certainly be back again, although we do not live 'locally'.
Thanks for a nice morning.

I am so glad you enjoyed your day and hope that you will visit us again in the not too distant future. Regards Sam

Watch out that prices of the object you choose to paint are not marked with the VTA included. Also, if you are asked if you would like a cup of tea this is also added to your bill. Two small objects cost us 24 pounds, (there is a 4 pound 'studio fee' per child as well) and this did not include a cup of tea by the way.

Hello I have just read your review , I am not sure what you are talking about with regard to the VAT. All prices shown include VAT. Other studios include the studio in the cost of each item you buy, the reason we do a studio fee per painter is if you do paint more than one item it works out cheaper. The studio fee contributes towards the paints, glazing, firing and overheads and even though our these have increased tremendously over the last few years we have not changed this fee. We have items to paint ranging from £6 - £46 with most items around £9-£13, which for a few hours of entertainment, a lasting memory and an object you can keep forever we believe is reasonable.

Wonderful
Nov 2018
They provide a relaxed environment, couldn't be more helpful, even to a person like me with two hands full of thumbs. My first attempt smashed as it came out of the kiln but it was clear they were devastated and couldn't have done more to make up for it. A free second attempt with no restriction on size of object to be decorated. A pleasant and enjoyable afternoon.

We come to Hawkhurst fisheries quite often with our Grandchildren. Great day out for all the family & lunch at Waterside Café just completes the day.
There's No rush whatever you choose to do. Help on hand & wonderful tranquil atmosphere. Very pleasant Staff each time we have gone.
Can work out quite expensive (2 + me) even choosing small items, although they enjoy it & they're Safe.
