What an amazing experience, fantastic views, clean and well maintained. Staff especially the bailiff Sam was incredibly helpful as my sister and I were real novices! Will definitely be returning. Not to mention the cafe where we had a fab lunch- keep up the good work girls in these very trying times 😬 10/10. X

Thank you for your kind review, I will pass your comments on to Sam the bailiff, and to the cafe staff! Hope to see you again soon :)

Visited today with my two grandsons, caught 30 carp during our 5 hour visit; brilliant fun! Can't think of better place to bring youngsters to in order to introduce them to fishing. No chance of them getting bored with this amount of action.
Can't come too often due to cost , how about concessions for us old age pensioners?
Very memorable day thank you.

Magical! Couldn't recommend a more wonderful, friendly, kind atmosphere. I came here around 3 weeks ago with my boyfriend from a recommendation, it was so beautiful! We came back for my boyfriend birthday. I spoke to the lady serving me at the till (who was very friendly) I mentioned it was my boyfriends birthday, which the chef overheard and he Brought his breakfast out with a candle in the sausage! We enjoyed our delicious breakfast while admiring the almost overwhelming wonderful view. I tried to leave a card tip but they only take cash. I will defiantly return with a cash tip. Couldn't recommed a better place! stop wasting your time and come here!

I'm guessing the minimum wage hike has made the management employ numerous 'young' waitresses. I see no other explanation as to why the management would employ such vacuous members of staff.
Anyways, the cafe was busy; which was good to see. We sat outside overlooking the ponds. Whilst looking for a table we noticed that the majority of tables outside were empty of fellow dinners but full of their plates and utensils. We decided to self-clean the table.
Whilst seated, the waitresses were continously walking up and down the cafe with food orders asking each table what they ordered. This is crazy. Each table has a number so it just didn't make any sense. It became a running joke with our fellow dinners.
The food was ok, nothing great considering its £.

I do wonder that if it was 'law' to tip waiters/waitresses would service improve.

If i was the management i would ensure all staff can;
a) engage in eye contact
b) not mutter
c) apply basic manners
d) know how to serve people!!!!

Apologies for not responding to your review of our cafe sooner – we have had some problems accessing our account for responses but I did read your review as soon as it was posted with dismay. The young staff we have working have nothing to do with the ‘Living Wage’ increase. In fact on the day you visited we were unfortunately two senior staff down due to sickness and thus were forced to put an inexperienced member of staff on the till who on some orders unfortunately forgot to put the order number on the orders, hence the confusion with bringing out the food to the right tables! Plus obviously being two staff down meant they were struggling to keep up with clearing the tables etc, I realise more than anyone that this looks very poor for our customers, staffing problems are a problem when there is sickness as you will no doubt understand, it is hard to find other staff at the last minute to take their place. As we are open 7 days a week we do rely on young staff members at the weekends to help us, we are in a semi rural position and weekend staff are often hard to find, and some are of course more confident than others, for many this is the first job they have had. We have addressed your comments with the staff and hopefully if you visit us again you will find the situation improved. As for our prices, we are very reasonably priced I feel, customers continually comment on what good value we offer. Thank you for taking the time to make constructive criticism, we take all you have said on board and are striving to improve. We make no service charge and when customers tip us when they feel they have received good service we are always appreciative, all tips go directly to the staff.

I've always been a massive fan of the fish farm, and visit regularly with family and friends. We went for breakfast yesterday morning and and was pleased to see a new breakfast on the menu - the lighter breakfast!!! (so light it could have blown away) this consisted of poached/scrambled eggs, toast and salmon for just under £7.00 ( if I remember correctly ). The eggs and toast were OK, but the salmon portion was so minuscule it was ridiculous. We did mention the portion to staff members who apologised, who were very polite and apologised stating they had a new manager and brought out a tiny bit more salmon! As I remember Nina was particularly nice about the situation. After our tiny breakfast I though a slice of cake would help fill the gap... I was wrong! The cakes have shrunk, along with the salmon. Really disappointed by what is normally a great service.

I have written a review before, and had nothing but good things to write. But what has happened?! I went with a friend - we walked in and walked straight out. It was about 12:45pm during the week, there were next to no cakes left, and the place STANK of old chip fat.
Such a shame - we used to be regulars. We will go elsewhere now.

We are dismayed to read your review. We have a large selection of scones, cakes and desserts prepared daily on sale and it is beyond belief that there was a poor selection on sale when you visited. Our cafe does not stink of stale chip fat and I am offended by your comment and strongly refute it. I think it is probably for the best that you visit other establishments from now on as what you are seeing here and what is on offer are clearly two different things.

Fishing has a reputation as a pretentious sport that is extremely hard to get into if you aren’t in the right circles - this place upholds that perfectly. Options are few and far between at the moment thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic so, although I was almost entirely new to fishing, I thought that I would give it a go whilst also supporting a struggling local business in the process - it was some mistake.

On arrival signage was poor and no-one was attempted to be helpful by directing my friends or myself to the correct car park or office. As a result a friend and a friend’s mum accidentally drove into the driveway of the members area - quickly realising their mistake they attempted to turn around but owing to a lack of space simply drove to the end of the road, turned around, and came straight back. This seemed like a rather inconsequential mistake at the time but clearly had serious ramifications in the end.

After this we proceeded to the office where we were told categorically(very convincingly I might add) that we couldn’t fish as we hadn’t booked in advance. Although disappointing we understood as this is commonplace at the moment considering the pandemic so walked off chatting to find another plan of what to do with our afternoon.

The only saving grace of the fish club came next when a very friendly and helpful fellow customer pulled over and seemed confused by the fact that we weren’t allowed to fish anywhere at all. He phoned the ‘bailiff’ (apparently the name for the patroller/boss of a fish farm) to clarify. The man (unknowingly on speaker phone the entire time) proceeded to explain that he had told the office that we couldn’t fish there now or ever as were ‘walking around like fools’ and ‘causing chaos’. (The closest I came to causing chaos was wearing jeans which was apparently viewed as improper fishing attire). The ‘bailiff’ was remarkably rude and it was certainly very disappointing to hear someone act like this towards potential customers who could have been inspired to take up the ‘sport’ in the long term, even if he had wanted to stop us from paying him and fishing I would have appreciate an ounce of honesty and respect- they clearly have absolutely no regard for expanding their customer base or the popularity of fishing in this country.

After this and quite remarkably the experience got even worse. We stood in the car park (nowhere near anyone else) for no more than 5 minutes before being approached by the same person who had turned us down and lied to us at the office. She shouted over to us that we had to leave immediately because we were on ‘private property’. I politely reiterated to her that as we had been barred from the fishing club for making a purely trivial mistake we had to find something else do with our afternoon so were just making a plan. Needless to say that she didn’t take our views into consideration whatsoever and insisted that we leave straight away.

In conclusion, an afternoon on which I was purely trying to support local business and enjoy myself with my friends trying something new ended with a rude rejection from this small local business. The experience was so unpleasant that I doubt I will ever try fishing again and if I do it certainly won’t be here. It may well be a great place for old and longtime fishers but if you are looking for something new or maybe even something mildly enjoyable I don’t recommend ever visiting Hawkhurst Fish Farm.

As replied to on your friends review of the same visit: Your review is incredibly inaccurate. We have many, many signs up from the very entrance, past the 3 car parks you drove past before deciding to head up to the members only lake (which also has 5 signs up saying no entry). You drove past our water bailiff twice before stopping, you were rude to our staff members. The lady in the office politely told you that you needed to prebook, as it very clearly states on our website, our social media and on signs which were at the entrance. She offered to prebook you in for another day but you refused that offer. As you said, this was just after we reopened, when no on-site shops were open and social distancing was very strict. When you left the office, you were told you needed to leave the site for these reasons. You ignored this and stood around for a good 15 minutes before you were asked to leave for a second time, you certainly weren’t screamed or shouted at, so there is no need to exaggerate. As a business, we have to enforce the guidelines set out by the government or were at risk of being put back in lockdown- a group of teenagers gathering in our carpark goes against all that. You were in no way not allowed to fish due to reckless driving, clothing choice or because of our members, but purely because you hadn’t booked on, as mentioned we offered to get you booked on but you all turned your noses up at that offer. I would strongly argue that we are not pretentious, nor do we try and put people off fishing. If you had looked on our website, you would see that we have 3 junior lakes on site which cater for absolute beginners, and several other lakes of varying difficulty with the aim of catering for everyone. In conclusion, you were rude to our staff even though they tried to help you, and you ignored all signs and restrictions that we had in place. Considering you have mentioned wanting to try and help local businesses, it is ironic that you have all gone to so much effort to leave us in-factual 1* reviews.

Since fishing is one of the few activities allowed at the moment (in the current coronavirus pandemic), having not fished in a few years, I thought it might be worth a try here. How wrong I was.

Having arrived I was waiting in the car and a couple of friends turned up and accidentally drove through to the members car park. Realising their mistake, they quickly turned around in the car park, yet already had been death stared by several members. Not a great start, but in the grand scheme of things we thought that this didn't really matter. Little did we know we had already committed such a heinous crime to bar us from fishing there at all.

It turns out that those members had already called the fishing bailiff there to tell him to not let us fish. We proceeded to ask the bailiff if we could fish there but he being such a spineless man told us to go ahead to the office, whom he had already told that we were not permitted to fish.

When we got to the office we were told that we weren't allowed to fish as we hadn't pre-booked, which was annoying to hear but seemed fairly reasonable even though they weren't that busy. As we walked back to our cars, we spoke to one kind person who we asked about any other local fishing spots we could visit. He seemed confused and asked why we were not fishing here, especially as we had all the gear necessary. We explained what the bailiff had told us, but the man thought this sounded odd so decided to call the bailiff.

As he spoke to bailiff on speaker phone, we heard the bailiff call us absolute fools and disrespectful for driving into the members' car park by accident. He cited this as the reason why he was not allowing us to fish.

Having heard this we were obviously shocked and hurt by the bailiff's utter rudeness. We headed back to our cars to form a new plan for the afternoon. However, just when we thought our experience couldn't get any worse, it did. The unkind woman from the office came and screamed at us that we were on private property, and had to leave immediately. Therefore we weren't even able to plan an alternative for the afternoon, and were forced to leave.

All in all, it was a terrible experience, with horrific staff and a largely pretentious membership group (excluding the one kind man that tried to help us), and I would not recommend this trip to anyone, no matter how bored they are in this lockdown.

A group of friends got together here for lunch and a catch-up. There’s a very good menu with something for everyone (though not sure about vegan choices). The staff are friendly and helpful and managed to change our seats for us when another table became free. You do need to book though, just to avoid disappointment.
The food takes a little while to arrive during busy periods, but it’s worth the wait. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. Best dish - fish pie! And any of the the desserts!!!
Thanks to all the staff for making this a fab lunch.

Thank you for your kind review of our cafe and food. We always have a selection of vegetarian and vegan options, please always ask the staff who will be happy to help you. We are quieter now the weather is cooler during the weekdays but weekends are always busy for us and it is best to book a table if you can. Glad you enjoyed the fish pie and our desserts - all home made here! We look forward to welcoming you again soon.

On a glorious morning there is no nicer place than to sit enjoying the view and devouring breakfast! We sat outside overlooking the water which was quite lovely. Their range of breakfasts is comprehensive and good value. We would have preferred more options of how eggs were cooked with the full breakfast and not having toast buttered for us but overall it was delicious.

Thank you for your kind review of our farm and our cafe. I am so pleased you enjoyed your visit and your breakfast, we normally serve the toast with the butter portions on the side so am not quite sure why it was buttered for you - I will follow that one up! The farm as at its most beautiful at the moment, with lots of wildfowl to interest visitors and lots of colour everywhere, I do hope you will visit us again soon to enjoy it.
