We travelled quite a bit to get there, but was well worth it. We are complete newbies to fishing, but the day was enjoyable with a delicious lunch at the on site restaurant.

Friendly staff showed us how it's all done.

We've visited a few sites this year both for junior Lake fishing and also for food.

On the fishing front, the cost of the gear to do some float fishing isn't bad, although I felt the float and line was to short so you couldn't really put your line out very far, all very near to the side.

When we've been both times we only caught 1 fish each in about 5-6 hours but at certain bits of the lake families were pulling fish out on after the other. So if you get a good spot your alright.

The food is good. Although one time I asked for a bacon roll but they had stopped breakfast so could only do a sausage. Weird. But OK. Guess they can't mix the menus but was a few minutes which had gone whilst waiting in the queue.

Also had a breakfast there which was reasonable. Quite overpriced but good quality and a lovely setting so would recommend.

Way back in March, my fishing buddy and I booked 2 trips to Hawkhurst. One in June, the other in September. 3 nights in June, 4 in Sept.
The trip in June was fine. Anglers toilets were dirty but toilets, full stop, are a luxury.
Food was good - I'd recommend the all day breakfast.
Swims are neat, although a little too close together.
2 weeks before the September trip my father had a bad fall, hospitalised (and still there at time of writing).
Bear in mind that the website states - All bookings are final; no refunds or moving of dates are allowed
So, if you book, say, 6 months in advanced, make sure that you or a family member doesn't fall ill.
I paid £140, back in March, for a 4 night session in September
Don't expect a refund. Don't expect to be able to reschedule. Just kiss good bye to the money and the trip
I did ask my booking to me moved and was flatly told NO.
Very disappointing on what looks like a well run water (if you don't mind the sound of bivvy pegs being banged in with a pneumatic hammer and are able to overlook some anglers bait boating their rigs around islands where the likelihood of actually landing the fish is more remote than a refund).
Had I been able to move the date, the lake would have had:
a. A happy customer
b. Another booking from my fishing buddy, who would have come down on the rebooked dates as a paying angler.
Obviously this wont happen due to the short-sighted policy on the lake and the unimaginative fisheries manager who is unable / unwilling to exercise any form of discretion, in terms of the booking.

The purpose of our passing visit was only to get a cup of tea! We were immediately impressed and stayed on for lunch

Surprisingly the cafe/restaurant offered a small but delicious menu of home-cooked food. Best burger I have tasted since Florida! I made a point of telling the chef.

We ate overlooking a lake and were delighted to watch the antics of the ducks and other wildfowl, Not only that but we saw an array of bird life including martins and swallows.

Hi there, apologies for the delay in response. I'm so pleased to hear you enjoyed your visit to the cafe. They are run separately to the fishery so please feel free to move your review to the 'Waterside Cafe' page so they can see your comments.

What an amazing experience, fantastic views, clean and well maintained. Staff especially the bailiff Sam was incredibly helpful as my sister and I were real novices! Will definitely be returning. Not to mention the cafe where we had a fab lunch- keep up the good work girls in these very trying times 😬 10/10. X

We recently visited Hawkhurst Fish farm to introduce our son to fishing and enjoy a day out. We had a great day in the peaceful setting . Jasmine was great with answering all our queues before we arrived and rob onsite was fantastic with kitting us up and giving us a few tips. My son loved this experience and I am sure we will be back. The cafe is clean , friendly staff and delicious food.

I was at this lake for 5 days due to not having the swims marked I had to move swims, the owner was rude and unhelpful. After putting hundred pounds worth of bait in the lake and paying 160 pound to fish there the owner told me I feel like giving your money back and sending you home, there was loads of dead fish floating on top of the lake I advise all you anglers not to waste your time and money at this location Hawkhurst fishery farm.

Fishing has a reputation as a pretentious sport that is extremely hard to get into if you aren’t in the right circles - this place upholds that perfectly. Options are few and far between at the moment thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic so, although I was almost entirely new to fishing, I thought that I would give it a go whilst also supporting a struggling local business in the process - it was some mistake.

On arrival signage was poor and no-one was attempted to be helpful by directing my friends or myself to the correct car park or office. As a result a friend and a friend’s mum accidentally drove into the driveway of the members area - quickly realising their mistake they attempted to turn around but owing to a lack of space simply drove to the end of the road, turned around, and came straight back. This seemed like a rather inconsequential mistake at the time but clearly had serious ramifications in the end.

After this we proceeded to the office where we were told categorically(very convincingly I might add) that we couldn’t fish as we hadn’t booked in advance. Although disappointing we understood as this is commonplace at the moment considering the pandemic so walked off chatting to find another plan of what to do with our afternoon.

The only saving grace of the fish club came next when a very friendly and helpful fellow customer pulled over and seemed confused by the fact that we weren’t allowed to fish anywhere at all. He phoned the ‘bailiff’ (apparently the name for the patroller/boss of a fish farm) to clarify. The man (unknowingly on speaker phone the entire time) proceeded to explain that he had told the office that we couldn’t fish there now or ever as were ‘walking around like fools’ and ‘causing chaos’. (The closest I came to causing chaos was wearing jeans which was apparently viewed as improper fishing attire). The ‘bailiff’ was remarkably rude and it was certainly very disappointing to hear someone act like this towards potential customers who could have been inspired to take up the ‘sport’ in the long term, even if he had wanted to stop us from paying him and fishing I would have appreciate an ounce of honesty and respect- they clearly have absolutely no regard for expanding their customer base or the popularity of fishing in this country.

After this and quite remarkably the experience got even worse. We stood in the car park (nowhere near anyone else) for no more than 5 minutes before being approached by the same person who had turned us down and lied to us at the office. She shouted over to us that we had to leave immediately because we were on ‘private property’. I politely reiterated to her that as we had been barred from the fishing club for making a purely trivial mistake we had to find something else do with our afternoon so were just making a plan. Needless to say that she didn’t take our views into consideration whatsoever and insisted that we leave straight away.

In conclusion, an afternoon on which I was purely trying to support local business and enjoy myself with my friends trying something new ended with a rude rejection from this small local business. The experience was so unpleasant that I doubt I will ever try fishing again and if I do it certainly won’t be here. It may well be a great place for old and longtime fishers but if you are looking for something new or maybe even something mildly enjoyable I don’t recommend ever visiting Hawkhurst Fish Farm.

As replied to on your friends review of the same visit: Your review is incredibly inaccurate. We have many, many signs up from the very entrance, past the 3 car parks you drove past before deciding to head up to the members only lake (which also has 5 signs up saying no entry). You drove past our water bailiff twice before stopping, you were rude to our staff members. The lady in the office politely told you that you needed to prebook, as it very clearly states on our website, our social media and on signs which were at the entrance. She offered to prebook you in for another day but you refused that offer. As you said, this was just after we reopened, when no on-site shops were open and social distancing was very strict. When you left the office, you were told you needed to leave the site for these reasons. You ignored this and stood around for a good 15 minutes before you were asked to leave for a second time, you certainly weren’t screamed or shouted at, so there is no need to exaggerate. As a business, we have to enforce the guidelines set out by the government or were at risk of being put back in lockdown- a group of teenagers gathering in our carpark goes against all that. You were in no way not allowed to fish due to reckless driving, clothing choice or because of our members, but purely because you hadn’t booked on, as mentioned we offered to get you booked on but you all turned your noses up at that offer. I would strongly argue that we are not pretentious, nor do we try and put people off fishing. If you had looked on our website, you would see that we have 3 junior lakes on site which cater for absolute beginners, and several other lakes of varying difficulty with the aim of catering for everyone. In conclusion, you were rude to our staff even though they tried to help you, and you ignored all signs and restrictions that we had in place. Considering you have mentioned wanting to try and help local businesses, it is ironic that you have all gone to so much effort to leave us in-factual 1* reviews.
