Interesting story about the artist, but weird... Spend about 20min here looking at the house and sculptures. Not a highlight as I am not into art as much. Still worth a visit when in the town.

I found this place fascinating and had a definite atmosphere about it which is hard to explain. I bought some souvenir owls from the official place.. which were priced fairly. I also bought some pieces from the sellers outside... which you could bargain for, but...More

A must see if in the Graaff- Reinet district and am inspired at the legacy that Helen Martins has left to this village. However, a pity that the staff at both reception areas are not more informative about the history of this lady - without...More

A visit to the Owl House is a must. It is not too far of a detour from the main road to view this village, its peoples and particularly The Owl House. If one takes a little time to take in everything that Helen Martins...More

The Owl House, as strange as expected, without being creepy. Shadows cast by the various statues a constantly moving story. I wasn’t expecting the gracefulness, or the delicacy, of the concrete works. Craftsmanship thrashed out of an industrial medium. I kept looking to see what...More

Helen Martins house and garden has provided this rather 'poor' little village with a real attraction, and when we parked outside it we couldn't help but notice the row of shop-shacks selling reproductions of her art made by relatives of her original helpers. We bought...More

There is a video shown before you enter the Owl House. What a pity there was nobody who could give a guided tour of the house and the various sculptures outside. My 8-year old nephew was really scared by the weird statues and sculptures. Maybe...More

I had not visited Owl House before as the sement art does not much appeal to me, but I knew my partner would absolutely love it, and he did. In the event, I also found that the imagination, passion and inventiveness of the work did...More

To the casual observer this entire setup might seem bizarre, but if you consider all the factors that played a role then this House is a wonderful achievement and tells a beautiful story of hope and perseverance. Those who don’t understand it will slate it....More
