On our recent motorcycle tour (VMT) through the Vietnamese Central Highlands, one of our nights was spent at the beautiful Lak Lake in a hotel right on the lake itself (where the elephant rides leave from). I was not expecting such a stunningly beautiful spot - we arrived mid afternoon and I spent hours sitting by the lake taking photographs... More

We stayed at Lak Lake while o an Easy Rider tour from Nha Trang to Dalat. Had not even heard of it prior, but wow what a beautiful place. Local village still has the long houses right on the lake and the view of daily life can be evident with a stroll. The fisherman are out, water buffalo, pigs, chickens,... More

A super day starting in Buon Ma Thuot and ending at Lak Lake. Contact guide Hoang Tuan. 0943810787 / hoangtuan121975@gmail.com, he is skillful, true and honest. He provided a full day trip visiting cooffe plantations, ethnographic museum, waterfalls, minority village, ending in Lak Lake with elephant ridning. Lak lake is a peaceful oasis in Vietnam.

On my investigated trip to Central Highland I went to most of tourist places and stayed in Lak town 2 nights. From the eye of man who are also working in this industrial field, I am so much appreciated nature of this rural area such as elephant rider in Lak lake, history of this land and the local M'nong people..... Lak Lake is on the list for tour operators because of the native M'Nong people and occasional elephants and good views across the lake, The danger is getting booked in the Lak Lake Resort. A scum place run by the provincial government. No soap, no lights , hostile staff, dirty rooms, dirty towels. iron bars on windows, chain saw ground... More

Cool little town to visit a little off the beaten path but worth the trip if you want to ride a elephant in Vietnam. Be sure to tell them you want to switch spots with the trainer across the lake because if you don't you will be sorry.

As far as I am concerned, it is one of the biggest disappointments of all my numerous crisscrossings of Vietnam (where I live on retirement) ; a large shallow lake surrounded by low hills, an interesting small village (Jun) with numerous local "long houses" and a so-so elephant ride, and a totally overpriced resort, not well maintained in addition to... 1/ I like: - Culture, elephant ride, dug-out canoe, visit local people, homestay,... 2/ I dislike - Some homestays replaced by concrete staff.
