We loved it here. Amazing landscape with eye popping geological stone formations in ever changing colors, providing fantastic photo opportunities. We were lucky with a clear blue sky and moderate temperatures, but it must be even more beautiful at sunset. There are good paths to walk on.

Most of all, all this beauty is revealed in the pre-dawn hours. It is best to arrive here by 4.00-5.00 to catch the most spectacular views at 5.00-6.00.
Of course, no photos compare to what it looks like alive, but nevertheless all the time you want to shoot and shoot more. I'm hugely impressed.

Interesting place, well worth a visit. Feels like a giant ant farm, the soil is sandy and slippery so wear good shoes. Colours are amazing and it is great to discover the canyon walking along the reefs and the valleys.

An amazing place to visit in Kyrgyzstan. Mesmerizing scenery. But in order to see as much as possible you need shoes with a tread sole, otherwise very slippery, especially when descending. The place is spectacular!

It's really worth the stop! It can be hard to get to and I would hire a taxi if you are new to the country. It's worth a stop. I would spend a day and night there. Spend the early part of the day trekking and the rest of the day swimming and taking it easy. And it's Free
I went there with a few friends and it took us 4 hours to hike around the area.
Attractions in Karakol from EcoTrek
The Fairy Tale Canyon / Skazka Canyon
The canyon was named because of its bizarre rocky landscape, which for many years has been transformed by wind into amazing sculptures and formations. Some formations look like The Great Wall of China and you can also find other formations that look like snakes, dragons, sleeping giants and even whole castles. From here opens unusual view on a majestic panorama of lake and blue caps of mountains. It’s an excellent destination for children and adults alike and makes for an easy hike close to the lake. Transportation: From Karakol to Fairy Tale Canyon (112km) pivate Taxi cost 2000 SOM per car or you can take Marshrutka to Balykchy or Bokonbaevo and ask driver to stop at the canyon for 100 SOM. Address: 4 km from the village of Tosor Working hours: 9am-4pm

We organised transport from Bokonbaevo to Karakol on the way is Skazka. The canyon is very beautiful situated South of Lake Issyk-Kul, hidden in the hills is a magical place: the Skazka canyon, also called the Fairy-tale canyon. While walking through it, your imagination will go crazy with all the colors and shapes created by the elements. Just look at those pictures and imagine you are in a fairy tale.
Pegas Adventure organised transport. The drivers speak english and prices also cheaper than others. Highly recommend Skazka canyon with Pegas Adventure

In my opinion it is the most spectacular place around Issyk Kul lake. I would say it is more beautiful than Jety-Oguz canyon. The usual price for visiting Fairy tale canyon is 150 som for a car and 50 per person. I would recommend to visit all places around the lake with a local guy, who can arrange an entrance almost for free if you are short in budget. 4-5 p.m. is the best time for taking pictures. From the top of the canyon you can see Issyk-Kul lake. Amazing place! Number 1 for me. If you like Fairy tale, try to visit Charyn canyon in Kazakhstan and you will not regret!

In the guidebook, this area was aptly described as a poor cousin of Bryce Canyon. There are some beautiful rock formations, and color combinations. It is worth a visit if in the area.

We stopped here while returning to Bishkek from Karakol. And found it to be a magical place! Would you like a true Indiana Jones experience, exploring narrow rocky passages and stirring up dust and sand under your boots? Here you go. Beware of wasp nests and heat and you will be amazed by the views.

We were on Mars !
45 min of a nice walk with great weather. This place is magical and kind of unique. With the lake and the mountains behind, it's perfect.

Hello! May we ask, how did you travel from Bishkek to Issyk Kul? And how did you arrange for the taxi ride or a ride there?
Do you reckon it's possible to get some random horse-ride from the locals, and just check into some yurt for the night?
Thanks!

Is there somewhere to leave our backpacks so we don't have to carry them around while exploring the valley?
Written September 17, 2017
You can leave it in the car or if not, you can leave it at the entrance to the Canyon and pay a fee 50 SOM.
