About
The Memorial Complex was opened on 12 November 1978 to mark the 35th anniversary of the Battle of the Neretva. The central part of the memorial complex includes the museum building, designed in the spirit of modern architecture. The museum was designed by Branko Tadić, Zdravko Dunđerović and Mustafa Ramić. The main exhibit at the memorial complex is the demolished bridge on the Neretva, a symbol of the Battle for the Wounded. In addition to the bridge, the complex includes the remains of the narrow gauge railway and a well-known 73 series locomotive, designed and built by the Krauss factory in Linz, Austria, in 1913. The bunker on the left bank of the Neretva and the meeting point with eternal flame contribute to the authenticity of the memorial complex as a historic site. In 2009, the Commission to Preserve National Monuments of BiH designated the historic site – the memorial complex of the Battle on the Neretva in Jablanica as a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The War Museum which is located near the ruined bridge of Jablanica is dedicated to the Battle of Neretva during World War II, provides an impressive collection of photographs to tell the story of this heroic event. The Bridge is a symbol of wartime difficulties and sacrifice.
The museum curator [lovely man] also takes the tours of the Museum, and can answer any of your questions.

Very nice view to the historical bridge from IIWW. Apart from the view one could get information of this strategic
Partizan battle against Nazi army in the Museum.

The memorial complex of the Battle on the Neretva river is full of contents. Outside you can see the destroyed bridge and an old train, inside there is a museum dedicated to the battle and also an ethno village from the recent period.

This place would deserve more respect but it is sadly deserved and left to rot. The part of bridge on the other side also collapsed. Noone takes care of this monument.

If you are driving between Mostar and Sarajevo, it is worth taking a few minutes to stop in Jablanica. Otherwise, visiting this site probably is not worth making a special trip here unless you have a specific interest. We came to see the bridge which is part of a free-access public memorial adjacent to the museum. We had no interest in the museum itself, but the bridge and park are of genuine historic significance. Easy to find.
The park is not a tourist site. There are no vendors, no parking fees, no hucksters. As you drive into town on E73 the town’s sports complex (arena & soccer field) is located right on E73 alongside the Neretva River. Find a spot to park at the complex and walk about 100m south beyond the complex. Beside the river you will find a Memorial Park with a clearly visible steam locomotive engine on display. You will find the bridge in the river behind the locomotive. Not something you see every day, and your visit becomes more meaningful once you understand the historical significance of the bridge, even though its third of three demolitions was done as part of a movie production. Take 20 minutes for pictures and you can be on your way.

If it wasn't for the 1969 movie with Yul Brynner and Orson Welles, nobody would stop at this place. Now, there is a (very) small museum and the remnants of a metal bridge hanging in the Neretva river (is it even original, or is this the prop from the movie ?!). Anyway, if you're driving past, may as well walk onto the bridge in Jablanica park and make a few pictures. One of the many heroic battles that have been fought all over the Balkans as long as they've existed . . .

We visited the museum while staying in Jablanica. Although we were running late museum manager waited for us and opened the museum and guided us through it. IT was interesting to hear about history I learned in primary school long time ago.
