Interesting island

Interesting island setup for the preservation of the orangutan. Interesting guided tour with a secure viewing of orangutans in their natural habitat. Well worth a visit.

My wife and I have just returned from a holiday in Malaysia and as part of this trip we visited the Orangutan island. Entry to the island is by a short boat ride from the Bukit Merah Lake town resort which is a fascinating venue, although is a little run down. The boat ride was pleasant and the staff very... More

This is a must visit if you want to see Orang Utan in their natural habitat. This conservation project aims to protect this species on verge of extinction. Some are later on send to the wild. We saw the King Orang Utan, he was huge. The guide had good info of the animals.

Absolutely dreadful. Geese laying their eggs in mud. Rabbits and guinea pigs in concrete enclosures with no hay, grass or something to rest on. Crocodiles concrete pool totally empty with 2 rotting chicken carcasses which stank. Thought crocs needed water!! Everything about the place is terrible. All the animals are desperately in need of rescuing from there.

The boat transfer to the island is merely 10mins away n very spacious. U only need to know the schedule to avoid of long waiting time. We had lovely 45mins on the island n learning of the orang utan names n habits which was explained by one of the trained officers on the island itself. After the long walk visitors... More

After about 6 years they send them to BJ island to help them learn how survive in the jungle alone. Worth a visit but remember you may... More

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Orangatangs. Contrary to reading some reviews we seen plenty of oranatangs and they looked as though they were well cared for and personally think this place is doing a wonderful job. We had an escorted tour and our guide gave us plenty of information through out the tour. Also a very pleasant ride over... More
