We love Baie Longue and only discovered it many, many years ago when we stayed at La Samanna. It is very hard to get to, but the privacy, soft sand and beautiful views make it worth it. The water is very rough here and there are tons of rocks of all sizes that make it difficult to enter and exit the water. There are no amenities, but we bring our beach chairs and a bottle of wine and some snacks and just chill out at the end of the day. We never walk down towards the resort because unless you are a guest they don't want to know you. It is much nicer to walk from Baie Longue to Baie Plum or vice versa. Most days you will have most of the beach to yourself. Note: it is a very short distance to the beach from the security post, but the guards near La Samanna make you go back and all around the other way which takes forever even if you know where you are going. And the roads are bad.

Baie Longue is one of many beautiful beaches in St. Martin. It is wonderful to explore as many as you can by rented car. Being the last day of our trip with an early checkout we decided to place our suitcases and valuables out of sight in the locked trunk of our rented car. That was a big mistake and we will never do it again. We parked in the public parking area at Baie Longue, my wife locked her purse in the trunk with the suitcases, and we carefully checked that all the doors were locked. As we walked to the beach my wife thought she heard people in the bushes. A little later we heard a car alarm and ignored it. While I walked on the beach my wife lay in the sand but noticed someone watching her. When we left I noticed that the lock in the trunk was a bit sandy. A private security guard (it's a private road but public beach) was parked across the road and gave us a friendly wave. Two hours later in Marigot my wife went into her purse and wallet and noticed that all our large denomination Euros, US dollars, and Canadian dollars had been surgically removed. Nothing else in the trunk had been disturbed and the purse had been put back in exactly the same place. No ID or credit cards taken. Very professionally done.

Long Bay Beach is quite atypical for a St. Maarten/St. Martin beach. Most of the island's beachs are beautiful, sometimes a little crowed, and offer amenities such as snack bars, and chaisse lounges you can tip an attendent to set up for you. Long Bay is beautiful, about a mile and a half long with one resort at one end of the beach, sparsely populated, and you have to carry in anything you want to eat, drink, and sit on. Because it is undeveloped you get a good idea of the island's natural beauty, with many large rock formations along the shore. The scarcity of other people means you can have a pretty good expanse of beach all to yourself. My wife and I always found it well worth the effort to carry in a cooler and some beach towels. The water is remarkably clear, and the surf is mild to moderate, just about perfect for bobbing with the waves. We've been to St. Maarten/St. Martin three times, and we love so much about the island: the food, the shopping, the scenery, the Cuban cigars, (okay, the shopping's for her, the cigars are for me, the food and scenery for both). We've tried many of the beaches there, but we always end up spending the lion's share of our beach time at Long Bay. If you want the amenities, and lots people to watch, it's not for you; but if you really like to get away from it all, Long Bay Beach is perfect.

I don't understand why people like this, unless they are staying at the crazy expensive resort. It was the worst beach on the island we visited. We walked from Plum Bay all the way to Samanna resort, an hr walk in deep sand. Water access is impossible except a few places and at Samanna. With the hill blocking the trade winds, it is so hot. There is a reason it has no people. AVOID!

This beach was my 2nd favorite to Baie Rouge (it was a toss up). I really like Long Bay b/c of how large the beach was and how it didn't seem to be as eroded as many of the others. Most of the beaches on St. Maarten are not flat from the back of the sand and into the water a few feet. There always seems to be a HUGE drop off to deal with at some point. This beach definitely has that secluded feel as long as you are away from the La Samana Resort (5-Star) that is at one end where the cliffs are. We entered the beach via the Baie Longue public access and walked down to the La Samana Resort. The chairs and umbrellas are designated for guests of the resort but for $10 per person you can use the chairs and umbrella for the day. The chairs are super comfortable too. They also give you a bottle of water and a La Samana beach towel to use for the day. So, no need to hike in with your own towel unless you want to (just a little less to carry). You also are able to use their infinity edge pool. The resort is so beautiful and the water is so clear and almost no waves. It really is a paradise on the La Samana end of the beach. We were also told that you often see celebrities on this beach b/c they many times stay in one of the La Samana villas on top of the cliffs. Definitely go visit this beach.

Long Beach is one of my favorite beaches on St. Martin. It is a very long beach (hence the name). La Samanna Resort is on Long Beach. It is generally very unpopulated and while it can be a bit wavy at times, it is still a beach that you can swim at, just use common sense. IT is really cool because on the far, less commercialized end there are tons of huge slabs of rock with fossils embedded in them.

Like all beaches on St. Maarten/Martin it is topless. That doesn't mean everyone will be topless, but some people will be. It's just how htings are there.

It can be tricky to find the first time. Follow the signs and you will drive down a looooooong road for what seems like forever (with some massive speed bumps), but eventually you will see a parking lot of sorts on either side of the road. Park there and walk down this little paved walkway and you will arrive at the beach!

Long Beach is a quiet semi-private stretch of beach. 1/3 of the beach is occupied by the 5 star resort La Samanna, which is only accessible if you are staying there or if you hike a mile down the beach to the resort. Nowadays to get to Long Beach (and Plum Bay) you have to pass the La Samanna resort entrance on the main road, go down a little further, and make a left into a security checkpoint. Just tell the guards that your using the beach and if you follow the road all the way down past some huge private houses you'll find a small public parking area for Plum Bay first and Long Beach second. If your not using the La Samanna facilities, bring a cooler/chair/umbrella/lunch because there's absolutely nothing around and the beach tends to get a little hot.

If your looking for some Solitude, this is the beach you want to go to! Bring a chair and Umbrella if a Sunny Day or take the mile long hike to La Samanna and use their chairs and umbrellas for of course a price but their is benefits to this price - bathroom, bottle water, showers, infiniti pool, bar, etc. Their are no public restrooms or tiki huts for food so plan ahead of time. even on the busy days on the island when cruise ships come in, this is a place of peace and quiet. A bit hard to find the public entrance but once you find it, you won't forget how to get to it. My favorite beach on the island by far! Don't like crowds or people asking you to buy this or braid that...If your looking for some snorkeling, We found fish of different assortments to the far left side of the beach by the rocks. I also found people jumping off the rocks into the Bay, if your into that sort of thing.

I visited this gorgeous beach for the first time in 2000. Wow - deserted, and a back drop of palm trees and expansive lawns. In 2011 I went again. Instead of the palm trees and lawns, there were now 8ft high concrete walls - whether to protect against storm surge or crime, I don't know. The views out to sea are still great, but having rich people's security towers looking down on you does create a sort of prison type feeling. As there is no natural shade any more, make sure you take your own beach umbrella.

You've got to go to this beach. It's really clean. Few people. Soft sand. Beautiful water. To enter take the road to Terre Basse from the airport towards Marigot, following the coast, not through town. The entrance is through the gated community of Terre Basse. Don't worry the guard will let you in. Just tell him your going to Long Bay. You have to drive a ways once you enter but it's well worth it.
