A really peaceful place to visit with so much information documenting its history. The grounds are also worth a visit.

Thoroughly recommend a visit, most interesting

What a wonderful place and would certainly recommend a visit. We were lucky enough to meet the lady of the house who came across to offer to take a photograph of my group of friends which was very kind of her. She also took the time to talk to us about some of the history of Cerne Abbey which was very informative and made our visit truly personal. It really is a most tranquil setting and very interesting.

Hidden little gem steeped in history
Aug 2020 • Family
We came to Cerne Abbas for the giant (like most tourists). I hadn’t really researched the village so had no idea this was tucked away, luckily we came across it on our exploration. A lovely little find, with lots of history attached. If you go through the grave yard you can also visit St Augustines Well which is a magical place. Loved every minute here.

If you’re in Cerne Abbas (a WONDERFUL village to stay in; super friendly!), then definitely visit the Abbey. It’s peaceful, atmospheric and lovely to wander round.

So much history!
Jul 2020 • Couples
At the end of quaint Abbey Street is Cerne Abbey. An honesty box by the entrance requests a £2.50 donation towards upkeep. Only certain parts of the Abbey remain. The Abbots Porch is quite a dramatic stone building. Under the archway are several boards detailing history and information of the site. The other building is the Abbey Guest House which is beautifully preserved both inside and out. Again there are very interesting information boards. We followed the beautiful riverside walk past the Kettle Bridge back to the car park.

A short and sweet visit
Sep 2019
Entrance is through a gate next to the cemetery, where there is an honesty box for the £2 entry fee. It is like walking into the grounds of a manor house with the Abbey ruins in the garden, so you feel a little as though you are trespassing!

The ruins will only take a few minutes to explore but the setting is unusual.

wonderful place

Its only a 5 minute visit but on a gloriously warm sunny day well worth the time. I love how these structures and their history are kept for all of us to admire. Honesty donation box.
