Highly recommend this tour from the tourist office
May 2021 • Solo
The guided tour of Chiesa San Francesco from the tourist office was exceptional, only 5 euro but so full of detail. Highly recommended. A must do while in Citerno.

Citerna is a beautiful village and the Madonna is well worth seeing. Marise's guided tour was amazing and much appreciated by us all. Our visit was enhanced by her incredible knowledge and enthusiam.

What a wonderful statue
May 2017 • Solo
I went to see the Madonna more by accident than by design, but once In front of the statue, I was overwhelmed by its beauty and serenity. I would have not expected to find such a masterpiece in a rather out of the way place like Citerna, and the guided tour I had almost did not leave enough time for due admiration.

Very beautiful and moving and impressive restoration
Sep 2015 • Friends
I am no art historian so I might have passed on this had I not been offered a private viewing by some local ladies in the square who were concerned I had come a long way to see this rediscovered masterpiece. Serendipitous and magical.
The terra cotta sculpture capturing a truly moving relationship between mother and child has been painstakingly restored in Florence over 7 years to be returned to its original magic having been garishly painted over 3 or 4 times since its creation circa 1430. A small church in a sleepy Umbrian hamlet outshone much of what I fought and struggled to see in Florence. Personal, moving, bewitching!

Just because it is Donatello, if you are around, go to have a look !
Personal, I am a fan of '' David '' by Donatello. In all these medieval towns in Tuscany, there is a masterpiece.
It is nice to see it all !
