After we red the comments about safety and dangerousity of this place, we weren't sur if it was a good idea to visite. We asked at our hotel's reception who said that now it's safe. The rock and the view on the city are beautiful. It's safe because there is a security guard so there is a fee now.

The rocky landscape of Iringa includes Gangilonga Rock, it has nice views across the whole of Iringa, it's a short walk up to the top. Due to past security issues, a security post has been built and a small fee (5,000tsh) is apparently now charged at the base of the rock but when we visited there were no staff on duty. We had been warned by multiple local people that pick-pockets were prevalent and not to visit in small groups, so do be careful when visiting,

Very interesting of the rock and colonization. Beautiful view of the city. But pricey to visit but totally can be done solo.

This is worth a short walk to climb this Rock. It doesn’t look much from far away, but you get great views of Iringa from the Top. There is a guard on duty, as well as an entrance fee to be paid. Quite expensive for foreigners, as one only really spends less than half an out on the top. It is quite safe and popular.

Very cool place to watch a sunset, it is fun to sneak up the rock stairs, to get to the top. For sunsetters, May want to carry a flashlight, those same steps are tricky after dark.

we had planned to visit here when a local woman advised us that violent crime occurs here regularly. I thought she might be hamming it up a bit but then when we visited a local cafe (the Info Cafe next foot to Warthog safari) They had printed warning signs stuck up that advised people against going there as crimes are too common.
I thought I'd post it here so people travelling through are aware of this as the sign actually warned 'do not go there if you value your life'. Iringa is a beautiful place and I feel very safe walking around here but will avoid visiting this particular spot.

The previous reviewer is correct. I'm a resident of Iringa and live quite close to the rock. People regularly get attacked at that rock, and you take that risk if you go. It is a shame because it's beautiful, but until further notice please don't go up there.

Gangilonga Rock looks formidable, but it is a relatively easy climb. Just a scramble up some rocks for about 10 minutes and you're on top! Highly recommend!

We walked up the rock and we could not fidn anyone, so we just climbed it. We enjoyed the view for a little and then somebody appeared asking to pay a ticket as supposedly we should have bought the ticket in an office in town- there was no mention of this anywhere near the rock...
