Birthplace of Shivaji Maharaj, the fort is well maintained, clear pathways and amazing viewpoints. There's ample parking and it takes about 1-1.5 hours to reach the top depending on the stops you take. Its an easy and casual trek up, there are no stalls or vendors on the way but the start of the trail has a line of vendors offering refreshments and some decor items for sale.

Lots of construction material is down around and since odd broken down is construction vehicle is kept next to the first gate blight the appearance.ASI should have posted useful information all along and provide the tourists the knowledge about this important historical place. Instead they have posted warning signs only. There are no guides or anything to help first timers where they are headed once they go to the middle level.

It's not only a fort but a divine place for all and a tourist attraction because of birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Nice view of Junnar city from buruj is available.
Due to regular maintenance this fort still holds good compare to age.

This is very nice and historic fort. This fort is birthplace Maratha Emperor Lord Shivajiraje bhosale. There is two lakes of sweet & cold water. The Fort is well maintained but to support this lots of construction activities were going on.Holy temple of mata shivaidevi is at enterance of fort. This fort has seven historic doors and well maintained.Building where shivaji born is very strong and still intact without any damage. You can go by shortcut by ropeway or by road.
From top of the fort you can see verynice view of junnar city,Vadaj Dam, and kukadi river and kukadi Dam.Visit between August to november as you can view greenry.
Also you can see other holyplaces nearby Astavinayak ozar and Lnyadri. Also Jyolirling Bhimashankar and Malshej Ghat are also just nearby 60km.
Junnar is well connected by Pune-Nasik highway and Mumbai-Nagar highway.
Everybody should visit this area atleast one.

If you are an experienced trekker, Shivneri will disappoint you. Shivneri an easy fort which hardly takes 45 minutes to climb is suitable for families and beginners. Recently renovated this fort is safer that earlier. There are long stairs which make a climb easier. Though there are no restaurants at the fort, you can find small stalls of cucumber in between.
**What's for trekkers?**
If you still interested for trekking at this fort then, there are 2 ways you can do some trekking. One starts just at the entrance of the main gate. Skip the stairs and find a rocky way. Second trekking point is easily spottable after climbing for 10 minutes.
**What to eat?**
As I said, there are no restaurants on the fort, there are 2-3 cucumber stalls in between. There are some local restaurants at the feet of the fort.
**What to see?**
As you start the climb, the firstly you will find Amberkhana. This place used to store the grains. Later, after 10 minutes straight walk, find a memorial of King's mother Jijabai. Opposite to that, you will find a mosque type structure. Adjoined to it, there is a huge pond where lots of bats roam. Just next to it, there is the actual building where King Shivaji was born. The crib is still locked inside a room. A small water pond can be seen next to the building.
As you move ahead of Heart-shaped pond, a 10 minutes walk will take you at the end of the fort where "Kadelot" point can be found. The traitors have punished a death from this point.
**Charges?**
Many websites claim that there is an entry fee of 10 Rs. But in actual the fort is free to visit. Parking charges - 50 for a small bus / car. Bike - 10/20 rs.
There are no tour guides, so you need to roam the fort by your own.
**Best time to visit**
Offcourse Monsoon
I hope I have covered all the points. Have a fun at Shivenri!

Its a good feeling to be at Birth Place of your favourite Hero. The Fort is well maintained but to support this lots of construction activities were going on. May be that takes away the original touch of it.
Very easy trek and you have steps and proper access way till the last point.

There are around 10 tanks on the Shivneri Fort and multiple well-maintained gardens. Tea, Coffee and liquid stuff were available on the fort, but not the snacks. We couldn't find a washroom in working condition. The fort can be visited in 3-4 hours all around. Throughout the trek, it offers magnificent views of the surrounding landscape and is a great place to relax and gaze at the green valley after the tiring climb.
Shivneri fort sits in the midst of several forts. To its north stand the forts of Narayangad and Harishchandragad. Jeevdhan, Chavand (Prashannagarh), Hadsar (Parvatgarh), and Bhairavgad are also close by. Five dams – Vadaj, Yedgaon, Pimpalgaon, Manikdoh and Dimbhe situated around Shivneri are also popular picnic spots.

We had 3 day picnic to above places. Malshej ghat immediately after rains was superb. Still lot of waterfalls, all around greenery, majestic hills, ever changing combination of bright sunshine & sudden fog & rains and beautiful ghat road. (3.5 Hr. Thane - Junnar)
1. Ozar - nice temple & excellent stay & food arrangement done by the mandir trust.(Rs1000/ac room). Enjoy boat ride by the lake.
2. Lenyadri - 12 Km from Ozar. Temple on the hill with 300 steps.(30 min climb)
3. Shivneri Fort - 5 Km from Lenyadri. 400 steps + 2km trek on plate. Well maintained place of Shivaji Maharaj birth place. Need 2 hrs to see the fort.
There are 5 dams around Junnar & you get good view of 2 dams from the fort. There is also illuminated walkway for evening stroll at 'Shivsrushti' at the base of the fort.
You can cover Shivneri, Ozar, Lenyadri in 1 day. Stay can be at Ozar temple trust or at Hotel Multi Spice, Shivaji statue, Junnar (excellent food at Multi Spice restaurant)
Next day, early morning you can go Junnar- Bhimashankar temple (85 Km, 3 Hr). Temple has few steps going down (20 min). Road not good in patches. You can return to Junnar by 2pm, if you start early by 6am and return to Mumbai same evening in 2 days.
We had more relaxed 2N/3D stay. You can enjoy view points in Malshej Ghat, MTDC resort view point & Pimpalgaon Doh dam backwaters at 'Saj resorts by the lake'
Few tips:
1. Avoid Mondays & ekadashi (Bhimashankar), Tuesdays & Chaturthies (Ozar, Lenyadri) for easy darshan at temples.
2. Best time end Sept / early Oct in case of extended monsoons.
3. There are lot of State transport buses on Kalyan - A'nagar route. One can get down at Bankar phata, from where Ozar is only 10Km ( best is to use own vehicle for better flexibility)

Myself n my husband visited this fort last week. We started at 7:15 am from Pune and reached the base of the fort by 10:30 am. We were told that it is a 3 hr drive from Pune. The map confused us for 20 mins n diverted us near a busy market. Finally reached the main entrance with the help of the map. I guess the best time to visit this fort is during the monsoon. It was raining heavily at the time of the trek. We thoroughly enjoyed the scenic beauty.

Shivneri resonates with history. The fort is a reasonably challenging climb and you need half a day to enjoy. There are many things to see and understand so do carry a good guide book. The fort is also eminently photo worthy.

Hi.... I am planning a one day trip from Ahmednagar to Malshej ghat and would be returning the same day. Would also like to cover shivneri fort, Girijatmaj Ganpati and Vignahar Ganpati in Lenyadri & Ozar respectively. Would request the travelers to please suggest if all four places are possible in the same day as the Fort & Lenyadri needs climbing. Please suggest.

Hi crazy traveller,
This Sunday I been to Malshej Ghat and Shivneri.
Let me answer your query.
From Ahmednagar, Shivneri is approx. 70-80 km.
It takes 45 minutes to climb Shivneri. Fort is damn easy to climb. There are huge steps. Spend approx. 3 hours at Shivenri. Go to Lenyadri. I do not have that much idea about Lenyadri but it is close by.
After 4 pm takes a sightseeing at Malshej Ghat. The whole heaven comes down. The fog, rain and atmosphere are incredible.
