A wonderful trip with a fabulous guide, Leen. Pantanal Jaguar Safaris is a superb family run company. Their contact, support, trip arrangements are outstanding. The trip itself is wonderful tailored to our personal needs and interests. The bird watching was stunning and Leen was incredibly knowledgeable. The Jaguar sightings were out of this world and her knowledge of how to get the best out of the days was invaluable. We cannot recommend this company, Pantanal Jaguar Safaris, highly enough.

From the first contact at the airport Pantanal Jaguar Safari gave us a great experience. They were thoughtful and professional in presenting our itinerary and our guide Allan executed it perfectly. He is an enthusiastic wildlife guide, very knowledgeable and capable. He was sensitive to our needs and took care to keep our 9-year-old grandson very much a part of the action. He could answer any questions we threw at him whether they were about wildlife or life in the Pantanal. Best of all, Allan was extremely pleasant to be around. It was only one day into our 5-day journey when our grandson declared: “Allan is the best.” And we agreed.

Wow. My wife and I came to Brazil on our honeymoon and spent the first 5 days of our trip in the Pantanal with André as our guide. We came in with high expectations because of all of the other great reviews that the Pantanal Jaguar Safaris team receives and we were not disappointed! Everything was truly incredible from start to finish. Leen helped us curate the perfect itinerary to fit our travel schedule. André was there waiting for us at the airport and drove us to Porto Jofre in his comfortable pickup truck, stopping at a great restaurant in Pocone on the way. André was an expert on the boat. Out of all the other groups on the water he was always the first to spot a jaguar so we were often alone with these amazing cats up close. It was such a thrill to see 2 large male jaguars walking and lounging together on the banks! We ended with 8 total jaguar sightings and 5 unique cats, we could not have been happier. My wife thought these encounters would be brief sightings but we were often observing for 30+ minutes at a time from the comfort of the boat. Not to mention, André is an expert and extremely knowledgeable and passionate about jaguars and the Pantanal. I love asking questions and he answered all of them. We had so much fun getting to know him over these 5 days, he is a really great guy and now friend! I cannot recommend Pantanal Jaguar Safaris enough, it is truly 5 stars and worth every penny. Thank you so much André and Leen for making our honeymoon so special, we hope to visit you again someday soon!!

My husband, two kids (ages 10 and 12) and I toured with Pantanal Jaguar Safaris in July 2021 for my daughter’s 10th birthday. I chose the Wetlands and Savannah tour with an extra night in Porto Jofre (jaguar area) for a total of 11 nights. Although the suggested itinerary typically ends with a few nights in Chapada dos Guimarães National Park & Nobres, I requested we reverse the itinerary to end with the jaguar safari. I was afraid the kids would be “bored” at the end of the trip if we started with the jaguar portion first, and I would have been correct. Although the kids enjoyed the Park & Nobres area, it doesn’t offer the exciting wildlife found along the Transpantaneira Road. Speaking of wildlife, we saw many different types of birds and mammals on our trip. We saw seven jaguars in total over the seven boat outings. We also saw an ocelot, two tamandua, four tapirs, giant river otters, several crab-eating raccoons, an anaconda and more. We unfortunately never saw a giant anteater, but it wasn't for lack of trying! Other groups didn't see one while we were there either. We also saw many beautiful birds throughout the trip, and our guide is extremely knowledgeable about them. Leen, the co-owner with her husband, was extremely responsive and helpful from planning the trip to the end. She was very accommodating to my requests - reversing the itinerary for us, providing us a personal guide for our family of four, and choosing accommodations with family rooms. I planned our family’s flights from Dallas to Cuiaba, but everything else was arranged by Leen. Our guide Fernando was great! We really enjoyed spending time with him and would highly recommend him to anyone. We really liked having Fernando guide us the entire trip. He picked us up and dropped us off at the Cuiaba airport, so we spent the entire duration with him. He is very knowledgeable and was terrific with the kids. He always made sure we were enjoying our activities, and it was so nice to have a native Brazilian who speaks both Portuguese and English to guide us. We only speak English and would have been completely lost without him! He became a member of the family while we were there both guiding and dining with us. Also, when I mentioned needing to get Covid tests at the airport before our trip, Fernando suggested taking us into Picone two days before our departure to get the tests taken there and not have to worry about them at the airport. That worked out really well!!! He made us appointments at a lab, drove us into Picone, helped us get the tests (ie language interpretation), took us for an ice cream and then got our results 20 minutes later. I know this is outside his normal “duty” as a guide, and it was very much appreciated. The accommodations were very nice but not luxurious. However, our family does not require/need luxurious accommodations. I prefer to spend money on experiences than over the top lodging where you don’t spend much time. Our kids still like to stay in the room with us, so lodging with family rooms was our number one priority. All but one lodge had internet in the room which allowed my husband and I to work at night and kept the kids happy by allowing them to watch their iPads before bed. Additionally, the beds at most all lodges were very firm and the bathrooms small. I’m not complaining about this but want to make people aware. I’m always surprised and disappointed when I see people give bad reviews because the lodging located in the middle of a jungle or remote area is not a Four Seasons or a Ritz Carlton. I think the accommodations are great considering the remote location and the transportation needed to deliver supplies. I know tourism has suffered from the Covid-19 pandemic, but we did not have any issues regarding Covid. Yes, it’s a bit of a pain/stress to have to get Covid tests before the trip and again before coming home, but the trip itself is still a great experience!!! Overall, we enjoyed the trip and were very grateful to see all the animals we did. I would highly recommend this trip and Pantanal Jaguar Safaris company to anyone wanting to take a trip to the Pantanal.

I took a two week tour with Pantanal Jaguar Safaris starting in Emas National Parque and ending in the Pantanal.  After much research on where to go and what tour company to go with, I decided on PJS.  What put it over the top for me was they had no problem booking a single traveler, even in their small group Pantanal tour.  Leen answered all my questions, gave me great advice and always replied quickly to my emails.  The first part was a private tour and the second I joined the group tour, which at a maximum would be six people, but we only had three. My tour started in Campo Grande where I was greeted by my guide Alyson and a driver.  It's a five hour drive to Emas where I was booked at Pousada do Gloria right outside the park.  I came to Emas with the hope of seeing the manned wolf, which I did, but only one and at night.  However, I had the most wonderful time, 15 different day tapir sightings, bioluminescence and all kinds of birds.  Alyson was an excellent guide and very knowledgeable especially regarding birds, he is after all an ornithologist.  He always knocked on my door to make sure I was awake in the morning, and after the first morning realized I didn't function well without coffee and made sure to bring some on the game drives the rest of the mornings.  He was extremely excited to be in Emas and never was disappointed to be guiding a single traveler.  He was always on the lookout for wildlife to make sure we didn't miss anything, I would have liked him to continue being my guide on the next part of the trip. After a short flight from Campo Grande to Cuiaba, I was greeted at the airport by PJS. We stayed at two lodges on the way to Porto Joffre.  We got a glimpse of our first jaguar on the night drive at the first lodge.   There was also a crab-eating fox hanging around the lawn of the lodge when we got back.  The second lodge is a great place to see coatis and monkeys right outside the rooms.  We also saw a male puma on our afternoon drive, which was amazing and rare.   The next four nights were spent at Hotel Pantanal Norte in Porto Joffre.  As you get out of the van you are greeted by the hyacinth macaws.  The hotel is spread out over beautiful grounds and next to the river.  On our very first boat drive we saw a mother jaguar and her two cubs.  Our boat driver was the best and really made the trip, he knew the patterns of the jaguars and always positioned us for the best photos, even when we arrived after others. His spotting skills were amazing.  We had the option of staying out on the river all day or going back to the lodge for lunch, our group agreed to stay out on the river all day each day, and we were rewarded for it.  All the boats at PHN have canopies, which can be put up and down easily and provide for much needed shade.  This was important as it was very sunny each day.   While Andre, PJS co-founder, was not our guide, he was at the lodge doing a separate tour. He always made it a point to come speak with our group.  He was personable, and very funny.  In all, we had 13 different jaguar sightings, one caiman kill right in front of us in the water, giant otters, capybaras, and a water buffalo.  I would say the only animal sighting disappointment would be no giant, or any other anteater but that is wildlife. The other nice touch is you get a PJS water bottle which can be refilled at each lodge with filtered water.  They also went above and beyond to help two of us on the way back to Cuiaba find and get a COVID test with results quickly.  I highly recommend PJS. They will be the first call I make when I come back to Brazil.
