Wonderful water, but unacceptable by Western - OK by local standards
Sep 2014
My wife and I visited the thermal baths in Berettyoujfalu during September, 2014. We usually visit these baths when we come to see my family in town. The water is wonderful and relaxing. If you visit at peak times - during the summer months - the place gets busy, but still enjoyable as all services and pools are open, and the environment is full of life in a park-like setting. This all changes drastically after August. Even though the the facility is open all year-round, many pools and all services close - to the point where we were not able to get, or buy a bottle of drinking water in September. So much for staying hydrated while soaking in a hot bath. Pools that are closed are either drained, or crudely taped off - half filled, and dirty. As you look around you will notice a lot of signs bearing the word "Tilos!" which in English means "Forbidden" - as if someone is going to arrest you if you step into the thermal pool without showering or using the foot wash before entering the waters. How about something more pleasant, like "Please shower and use the foot pool before entering our pools. - Thank you"? Entrance fees are different for locals and out-of town folks - this you have to prove by saying "yes" or "no" to the question: "Are you a local?" Sauna fees are extra, especially if they need to heat it up for you. Oh, yes, the locker keys - I had to surrender my wrist watch in exchange for a locker key so that my wife and I did not walk out without returning the key to the cashier. Even though these issues are unacceptable for most tourists, they are completely normal for local folk, and nothing is being done (at this time) to change this image.

Nice weekend @ Bihar Termalliget
Aug 2021
We went to Bihar Termalliget during the weekend. There are a lot of pools (2 of them with thermal water - ~ 32-34 degrees Celsius); kids pools with water slides; a jacuzzi for 6 persons; and a larger pool, with deep water, for good swimmers.
There`s a large, green area around the pools where you can either do sunbathing laying on a towel or you can rent a sunbed.
As for food, you can buy snack inside the thermal bath area, the traditional Hungarian "langos", beer. water, juices.
Regular, daily entrance fee (in August 2021): 1500 HUF/person

Great thermal bath
In a village near Romanian border, in Hungary, Hajdu Bihar county, you'll find a great thermal bath: Bihar Termalliget.
Put toghether with european founds for some years now, it's a great alternative to crowded places like big aquaparks!
From Oradea is only 40 km. The entrance is around 4 euros for an adult and you have 3 outdoor pools with hot thermal water, jacuzzi, one outside pool with cold water and one semiolimpique covered pool!!
Great place to relax in center of Berettyóújfalu!!!
