About
The museum is located at the historic Palace of Podestà of Torcello, former seat of the Burano Lace School from 1872 to 1970. Rare and precious pieces offer a complete overview of the history and artistry of the Venetian and lagoon’s laces, from its origins to the present day are on display, in a picturesque setting decorated in the typical colors of the island. The exhibition is accompanied by videos, illustrated explanations, and a number of other vintage items which frame the works and offer an easy and multidisciplinary understanding. During the opening hours of the museum you will also be able to see the work of the skilled lacemakers.

The staff member in charge of supervising the visitors in the exhibition is extremely creepy and follows you around. We visited 30 minutes before closing time but it only took about 15 minutes to look at what is on display. The creepy man knocked on the door of the bathroom and WAITED OUTSIDE until I exited the cubicle. Then while I was getting my things together and preparing to leave, he tried to bin my poncho (it was raining heavily). Then when we went to retrieve our umbrella it turned out the staff had locked the umbrella storage cupboard. You could tell the staff were desperate to leave - despite it still being 15 minutes before the official closing time. The exhibition itself was nice but quite boring.

This is a small museum, but well curated. Definitely watch the video to start; about 15 minutes. Self-guided, you can see displays of all the lace patterns that have been made on this island. Also some contemporary art pieces incorporating lace.

This is an important, small and clearly underappreciated museum. It has just a few rooms. Many of the artifacts displayed are truly breathtaking masterpieces. You should take time to admire and understand them. Also displayed are paintings by a group of artists who settled in Burano. Each artist had a totally different personality. A beautiful album of these paintings is available at the museum shop. However, I was very disappointed that the museum shop did not accept credit cards. The museum sells tickets and credit cards are accepted, but they are not accepted at the museum shop. It does not make any sense to me.

This small museum has some information about lace and how it evolved through the years with many examples from lace textiles. We spent a bit less than 30 minutes there which was great considering that we wanted to spend more time walking around Burano, instead of being inside a museum. Our favourite part was when we could watch a woman working on a piece of lace.

Promotion of crafts: lace.
It’s difficult to sort the tourist trap from the authentic on this small island of Burano.
The Burano Lace Museum shows the handwork of an era that unfortunately no longer exists. Hours and days of work for a few cm2 of handmade lace.
The museum shows impressive examples of an art that we can no longer afford or want to afford at the right price.

Entrance to this museum was included in my Venezia Unica card, so I stopped by. There is no need to go here specifically - the colorful houses of Burano are much more interesting, and you can look at the lace in the shops, although not many of them were open in November. The exhibition is not large; a detailed inspection will take up to 30 minutes. There is a toilet. I also took advantage of another option - in the hall where they show a film about the creation of lace, I recharged my mobile phone. Lace is undoubtedly beautiful, but it’s completely retro. So, head to the sun, sea and bright colors!

I went because I had the museum pass. It was interesting - good explanatory video at the start and lots of beautiful lace to look at. However it was very short and unless you have a particular interest I wouldn’t go out of your way to see this.

The visit to this museum was one of the reasons we came to Burano. It has some really beautiful exhibits, but we were expecting more - the museum is too small! What we missed most, were some local ladies who still know how to perform this fantastic handicraft and who would do it in front of the visitors!
This was the first of many museums that we visited using our VeneziaUnica city pass.

We actually thought this was a fort and history museum when we walked in. After paying a steep admission fee and walking in to museum, we discovered it was a lace-making history museum. It is small and takes about 20 minutes to go through, unless you watch the entire movie near the entrance. The examples and displays of lace are impressive and the best part was watching and listening to the local ladies making lovely lace creations. Only visit if you are truly interested in lace.

My sister and I paid a visit to the museum as we are both interested in all aspects of costume and we thought it was the only way to see genuine Burano lace on an island where the shops (with one exception) now all sell cheap imports. We were able to use our museum pass, which I would recommend to anyone going to Venice, as it makes it more worthwhile paying short visits to small museums; also a good way to access decent toilets without having to find change in Euros.
We went straight upstairs to the displays of costume and the numerous cabinets full of examples of old lace. There were collars, shawls, a wedding veil etc. When we were there 5 ladies were sitting near the large window making lace - rather like a small lacemaking club - chatting away and letting us see what they were doing. From the ages of most of them I suspect this is something that won't be seen for very much longer so I'm glad we took the opportunity.

Trip Advisor has a policy prohibiting folks from giving web site info but if you search with the Museo title you already have, you will get the relevant information.
It's a small interesting museum with a short film on lace making at the beginning. The upstairs rooms show some examples of ancient work and also photos, paintings, and things of interest that pertain to lace-making and its history.
It's a small part of the attractions on the island of Burano. We liked the walking, looking, and seeing all there is on this quaint island.
Enjoy your time in the Venice area of Italy. If you think of anything I can help you with further, please send a PM (private e-mail) and I will do my best to help you.
We were fortunate to have several days in Venice on our own, before the second of our tours began. We went to all the islands on a one-day Vaporetto pass.
If you ever have the opportunity to visit Hvar, Croatia (one of our favorite places on this planet), there is a convent of nuns who display their amazingly detailed work (made from fibers of the Yucca plant) and they also have a museum that is probably 10 times more impressive than anything you have ever seen.
I would also caution you that the water transportation to the islands of Murano, Burano, and Torcello is time-consuming so, if you go, get up early.
Happy travels to you!
