Brynamman Cinema traces it's origins to the 1920s where it was funded by the "check-off" system, whereby weekly contributions were deducted from the miners' wages, initially to build the hall, and subsequently to run it. Building work on the new Brynamman Cinema started in 1924 with seating for around 1,100 people. It was furnished throughout with tip up seats upholstered in old gold corduroy. The stage was built 20ft by 60 ft and had 4 dressing rooms below. The lounge was situated below the library it contained 12 armchairs and 3 settees where the miners could relax or play cards around the several oak game and card tables therein. There was also a billiard room above the library. The opening ceremony was held on 15th May 1926, the cinema started with silent films until the 1930's, when the "talkies" came along. Today, Brynamman Cinema continues to grow and has kept up with all the changes the film industry has made over the years, most recently being the transformation to digital projection. As of May 2013, the cinema has the ability to show two films simultaneously for the first time in its 89 year history thanks to the opening of Screen 2, a 43 seat auditorium situated in the old lounge space. All of this has been possible due to the good work of the committee of volunteers who run the day to day business of the cinema.

We who live in the local area are so lucky to have Brynaman Cinema on our doorstep. All the latest films seven days a week and at a price half that of the big chains. This weekend my son and I went to see Lego Batman - the second major Lego film. £5 per adult and £4 for a child... More

I Love Brynamman Cinema..... Run by a brilliant team of volunteers, its just fab...takes you back to the old days of fun and friendly visits to your local picture house.Always a great welcome, reasonably priced sweets etc at the Tuck Shop (no rip off prices) and ice cream from the 'usherette' at intermission....and often communal sing alongs from the audience.....magic!... Visited here last night to view Rogue One. The building from the outside looks old and indeed hasn't changed since I used to visit here in the early '80's. However once inside you are reminded of how cinema trips used to be. Run by a group of volunteers, this is as far removed from the corporate messes of Vue and... More

What a fantastic place, run by volunteers for locals. Clean, cosy, inexpensive. Friendly staff - a real trip back in time, but with a modern twist.

I just love this place! If you want to to buy overpriced drinks and popcorn and pay extortionate prices for tickets then go to Vue or Odeon, if you want a cinema experience in a traditional cinema with loads of character than get to Brynamman! The cinema is run by local community volunteers and you can tell! Lovely people who... More

Recently gone here with family and the children love it! Old fashioned cinema at a very reasonable price with plenty of choice in the shop! Icecream sold before the film also! Been there a few times during the cinema with my children for an affordable pirce- Roughly £25 spent with 2 adults, 2 children and refreshments.

I love this place, it has it all... Reasonably priced, welcoming and inclusive. The staff are volunteers who are always lovely. Snacks and drinks are very reasonable and they still serve ice cream in the interval. All round great experience
