Ordered two pies and salad and asked for olive oil. A bottle of ‘olive oil’ was brought to the table and it didn’t look right or smell like
Olive oil. I tasted it and found it to be cooking oil. The manager came out and said that they give their customers a ‘blend’ (in a virgin olive oil bottle). My husband called him out on it -
and asked him why he would do that, and he walked away. Then the waitress said that they are told to put cooking oil in the bottles for their customers. What a blatant disregard for your patrons and then you lie about what you are doing? Will not be back and will tell everyone about this.

Saturday 30th September we took very special long time friends from the UK to "the famous Houhoek restaurant" for a meal hoping to introduce them to your great pies. We were a table of of 8. Those that ordered pies and chips were extremely disappointed as the pies hardly had any filling in them, pastry very thick and the meat was dry and not to mention the 7 chips my partner had on his plate....
I know times are getting tough but his response was "I've had better pies from a filling station...." We were extremely disappointed so I'm not sure if it's just from the restaurant side that the pies weren't great or as a whole. The others had scones cream and jam and seemed ok.
Next time we go for pie we'll go to Perigreens.

Lovely farmstall with a variety of options both in preserves and other items you can takeaway for use at home, as well as various beverages and snacks.

They sell delicious pies as well as have a restaurant as well.

They have a pretty little Ginger cat that might bless you with it's presence
I was lucky enough to have it be a loaf near me while I tried out one of their fresh made pies.

Sorry to experience this one negative as this is always a great stop for refreshments on the N2 highway.
On this occasion we were disappointed as the berry drink on the menu was clearly largely apple juice.
Our apple crumble and cheesecake were excellent

We had a casual lunch. The food was wonderful and service good. Prices of all courses and the wine is most reasonable. We had a wheelchair bound person with us and the staff went out of there way to assist in rearranging tables and helping lifting the chair down some stairs after we left via the front door and not down the wheelchair ramp. Very impressed

My grandson only eats Prime Steak Pies so I thought I will stop at this Farm Stall and try their famous pies. I always keep pies in the Freezer for when he wants one.
I had one yesterday and what a let down, my grandson will definitely reject this. It is filled with thick, dry pieces of meat and no gravy. The pastry is not too bad and I am sure the birds enjoyed it. A waste of money in my opinion

I stopped for lunch to try the 'famous pies'. My beer was warm (not well chilled, had to add ice) and the chicken pie was soggy. Thick rubbery doug (probably defrosted?) and the filling sparse on the chicken.

Service was friendly and good. Won't stop here again.

Friends popped up from cape town and got us pies from Houw Hoek I was glad as I have not been down that end for three years and always stopped for pies. Well what a disappointment not at all like I remember it , dry meat no gravy but the worst was the pastry thick and like a ball of dough dont know if it is new owners but their quality department must have closed down wont buy there again.

Best pies ever. Especially the curry pies. Great jams and pickles too. Also stock some good wine and have lovely restaurant with fresh divine food. We drive from Cape Town just for this.

This is a must! When in the area stop for a pie, baked cheesecake, preserves, fresh fruit and so much more! My husband and I had their pepper steak pie and for dessert a little baked cheesecake tartlet. My oh my, for the best old fashioned pies this is the place to be!
