About
Established in 1898 by Sir Antonie Viljoen, this magnificent 1786ha family estate is one of the pioneering farms in the country. In 1908 a wine cellar was built, but was sadly mothballed during the Second World War when fruit was in greater demand. New vineyards were established in 1985, followed by the release of our much-acclaimed maiden vintage in 2003. With vineyards located on mountain slopes over 450m above sea level, ripening occurs slowly and vines bear ultra-low tonnages. The Fruit Division at Oak Valley today consists of 350 hectares of apple and pear orchards with 70% planted to apples and 30% to pears. The Greenhouse Division covers over 17 hectares of greenhouse and shadehouse cutflowers, the largest in the Western Cape, with the speciality crop being Chrysanthemums for the local and export market.Mountain biking has become a major attraction, with our trails rated as some of the best single track in the country. On a typical summer weekend, Oak Valley attracts up to 150 mountain bikers and theirsupporters. The Pool Room Restaurant at Oak Valley is a tourism destination in its own right. The menu is simple, focussing mainly on Oak Valley’s meat products, grass-fed beef and acorn-fed pork, along with a range of dry-cured meats (or charcuterie) crafted in an on-farm curing facility.

Its been a while since we visited Oak Valley. But the new restaurant called 'the Melting pot' was a wonderful surprise to us. They went through the effort of accommodating us along the pool and we were very impressed with the food. We choose the small meals for all, which was more than enough for the 3 of us accompanied with the lovely Oak Valley Riesling, rounded off with a delicious dessert and coffee. We will be back!

a friend took me on an introductory mountain bike ride on the Estate.
They have three route choices, Blue for not too hard, Red for technical and black for ???

We did the red route- about 24 kilometres.
This is popular mountain biking venue offering a year entrance permit (R500) or just a day permit for R40.oo.
You can also get a permit to cross over onto the neibouring Paul Cluver Estate for same exquisite cycling experiences.
The security at the gate was friendly and helpful.
The car park is well signposted with the indemnity waiver well published on the notice board alongside a good clear aerial photo with the routes marked.

The trails are well marked and very interesting.
As we expected, all the cyclists we encountered were happy to engage, friendly and as always, a comradely nature about them all.
We thoroughly enjoyed the circuit and the Bontebok were there on queue to grace us with their presence.
Wow, remind me again why I live in the Western Cape!!!
We are spoilt for natural unspoiled beauty and wide open spaces.

Tasting in the pool room is great. If you can would also recommend lunch there. Award winning wines, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff. This farm is going places - still an absolute bargain. Platter 5* material

The cottage is a delight. Very pretty and set in a large lawned garden amongst mature trees and the whole is surrounded by apple orchards. Well equipped, comfortable and clean, the care and attention to detail was evident throughout. Highly recommended.

I think this must be the best ST around, well laid out using the natural lay of the land which takes in the natural lay of the land. The interesting fence crossings are worth the mention :-) After a good work out, the Pool Room (restaurant) is a must. Friendly staff and excellent food. There is so much to mention but rest assured that anything you order will be fresh and of the highest quality. I can recommend the home made beef burgers....and the AWESOME freshly pressed apple juice, the wine tasting is well presented offering the local produced wines from the farm. A must stop over after a good cycle. Thanks for the enjoyable afternoon.

Having been a frequent visitor to Oak Valley it was sad to visit in early January and experience something different from what we have in the past. we were travelling with an overseas guest and got there at around 15h30 for a quick wine tasting - unfortunately nobody was in attendance for the wine tasting and we had to go in search of someone to assist us which turned out to be quite a long process. We paid for the wine tasting and also enquired whether we could order a desert to which we were advised that it was not possible as we had not made a reservation for lunch!!!!???? Our overseas guest then purchased some wine and no offer was made to partially refund the charge for the tasting. I understand that Xmas and New Year are crazy with holiday makers however standards / attitudes should not change.
