Snorkeling on the Gili Islands
Amazing day ! We spent the day alone with the guide and skipper on a local boat
A la carte program: for us it was essentially snorkeling, 6 dives!
We voluntarily abandoned the visit to Gili T, and without any problem with the guide
Lunch on gili Meno in a local restaurant with your feet in the water
And what's more, our guide Anto spoke perfect English! So to exchange it was really good, knowing that it was perfect
In short, to do without hesitation
No tourist traps!

We are family with 2 kids of 9 and 13. We found our guide, Sariman, at the beach if Singigi hotel and first were very sceptical. After he showed us a few videos and pictures of his free diving and assured "no turtles no pay" (while hotel agency was quite indifferent and gave no guarantees if we would see the turtles), we decided to give it a try. On January 2 we headed to all 3 Gili islands. And it was amazing. Sariman knows the sea as the back if his hand. My 9 y.o. boy was first afraid of going on a boat tour and snorkel. What a surprise it was when my son following his elder sister and the guide took off his life jacket and dived together with Sariman on 4 metre deep to touch the turtle!!! All 3 islands are amazing in terms of diving and snorkeling. It was so good experience that we asked on the way back to hotel if Sariman could show us more. And yes, next day we headed to another 3 very secluded islands even smaller than Gili Air, which you won't find in the tourist books. They are further from Lombok but to our big surprise Sariman arranged a bigger boat without asking for extra money, so it took us only 45 minutes to get there. Kids and us had a great fun. Kids never wore life jackets and did free diving under Sariman's supervision. He is very good with kids and was always with them. We saw a sea cucumber, a sea urchins, sea stars of all shapes and colours, lots of different fishes and corals, old ships racks. One island was so small, we could run around in 2 minutes, but there were so many beautiful corals and sea stars around in the sea. Another island had only one restaurant. And no crowds at all. Turned up in Senggigi hoping to hire bikes for a self-planned cycle tour around Lombok. Found Adventure Lombok and they were able to help us out quickly with perfectly acceptable mountain bikes. They were well used but in fine working order, brakes ok, gears smooth, tyres with good tread.
Also provided helmets, pump and small multi-tool. The only extra we could have needed was a puncture repair kit but luckily we didn't need one. We did 165 miles over a few days without issue and as well as seeing Lombok's beautiful coast and mountains also received unique interaction with the locals who I feel rarely see tourists, especially those on a bike!

After arriving at our hotel in Senggigi, we looked at options for Gili day tours. Even though the cost per person was nearly double than many local options, we decided that we would prefer a local English speaking guide to accompany us and that we would be driven further up the coast so the journey time to the Gilis would be reduced by half. I am really pleased that we opted for this because especially on the return it was very choppy. We went to the larger Gili T first and were given the option of hiring a bike (for an additional 50,000 IDR) so we explored for 40 minutes, went to an area where there is an attempt in turtle conservation and went back on the boat. Then it was snorkel time! We went to Gili Meno and snorkelled the reef with our guide. It was brilliant! He spotted a turtle and showed us the best parts of the reef. We were not rushed and stayed in the water for nearly an hour. The lunch option on Meno was limited but okay, it was not included in the tour cost but not too expensive. Then more snorkelling at Gili Air. Our guide had brought some bread to feed the fish which was lots of fun and a great way to see the fish close up. Then it was time to go back to Lombok. We got picked up (in a nice car with AC), taken to a look out which was on the way home and dropped off at our hotel. Water and 'soft drinks' were included but the soft drinks were a couple of cartons of coconut water. Overall I am really pleased we opted to take the English guide and car option because I felt that having our guide 'Sunday' there enhanced our experience of the Gilis. Thank you for a great day!

My mum was really ill the first day.. They did not care at all. We asked them to take us somewhere to eat so that my mum may feel better he took us in a dirty restaurant and asked him if he knew were else he can take us. It was like he did not even live in Lombok as he had to ask people where else we can go and eat. We booked a day trip to all Gili islands and asked them to go a day before instead of the northern excursion as we felt the waterfall was not appropriate for my mum after reading a lot of reviews.. we were only taken to two islands.
We clearly stated to them that we want to see the turtles. We were not taken to the island were there are a lot of turtles on the beach and swim with them. We tried to get a horse ride around the island. The tour guide had no idea that until 2 pm only guests checking in and out from hotels they can use them. Wanted to buy a sim card he had no idea were to buy one from. We canceled the next two days as clearly our tour guide was not qualified. When I asked him who to contact he just said send an email and shrug his shoulders. Really made our trip to Lombok an unhappy one. So expensive and when we emailed and asked for a refund as we were really dissatisfied obviously it was too late and only refunded a small part of the total amount that we canceled.

We organised the full day snorkelling tour of the Gili Islands for our family of 4. All email contact prior to the trip was very efficient. We had an enjoyable day with our guide Rul. His English (and several other languages) was great. We got picked up from our accommodation around 9am and driven to the north of Lombok with fantastic views on the way. We hopped onto a local wooden boat which took us towards the first of the islands. We snorkelled off of the boat near the island where my husband caught sight of a turtle. We landed on the island for a brief look at the turtle conservation area where baby turtles are looked after. A walk around this busy island would have been nice but we headed back onto the boat to snorkel off of the second island. Plenty of amazing fish to be seen. We were taken over to the final island Gili Air where we had time to buy lunch and had a quick walk along the island. Our final snorkelling opportunity was just off of Gili Air (very murky water right near the beach so once again it was off of the boat). Here we fed the fish underwater and saw some beautiful species of fish. We were taken back to the mainland and driven home, arriving by 3pm. All up we had a good day. Our children struggled with snorkelling off the boat, but Rul did his best to support them, whilst still allowing us to see all that we could. Our children remained on the boat for much of the day (inducing light seasickness) but we felt they were safe.

We booked an 8 hour full day snorkelling tour with adventure lombok. Our guide took us to all three Gili islands, provided us with snorkelling gear, took underwater photos for us, fed fish with us, and was very accommodating toward my sometimes seasick partner. The whole experience was fantastic and the snorkelling trail was great - we saw a green turtle munching on some coral within the first minute! These guys will pick you up and drop you off, and offer value for money compared to what was offered to us by our hotel and others.

I have made almost 300 contributions to Trip Advisor over the years, and have always been wary of those reviews and recommendations from people who have made little input to TA. To this end, I hope this post is viewed as honest and sincere.
My family and I and 2 friends from the UK - total 7 people - have just returned from a trip to Indonesia. We only had 1 day to spend in Lombok which is absolutely not enough time. We decided that we would be best to hire a private driver and after much research on the Lombok forum we came across the email address of Budi at Lombok tourism. Here is his email address:

I emailed him a list of our interests and what we hoped to achieve in such a short time. His reply was prompt, pleasant, with good suggestions and in perfect English.
He is part of a Lombok Tourism. His being part of this established group gave us reassurance that should something happen to delay him for the time we booked, we would have back up drivers available to us.
Our main was to spend time snorkeling in the Gili Islands – this turned out to be a highlight of our entire holiday. Budi actually snorkeled with us and his fish feeding trick with bread in a plastic bottle turned our snorkeling experience into a Finding Nemo movie. Guides don’t usually snorkel with the clients but we were glad Budi did as my family are like fish and I am not so good, so he stayed with me whilst they all went off exploring.
Budi organized everything from hiring a boat to take us out to the Gili Islands, all the snorkeling equipment we needed, access to showers afterwards etc. He really helped us make the most of a too short time in Lombok
I hope this review/posting is of help to future visitors to Lombok. Please excuse me if I have posted it in the wrong place, this was the best place I could think of

We had a great day in Lombok. Hiking through the island and swimming in the waterfalls were both simply amazing experiences. Our driver was courteous, friendly and safe. Would highly recommend tour to anyone who loves to experience local life and nature in Lombok.

My best friend and I did a day trip to Gili Nanggu, Gili Sudak and Gili Kedis with Adventure Lombok. We had the most amazing day. Our guide Rou was just brilliant. He had a fantastic sense of humour and we also learnt so much about the island of Lombok.
We had a private tour which Adventure Lombok specializes in.
I would highly recommend Adventure Lombok and Rou for excursions whilst on Lombok.
I will definitely go on an excursion with them again next time I'm in Lombok.
