If you're in Sant Joan, there is no way to miss this. If you are driving through the area, definitely make the stop and enjoy a day in a beautifully Medieval Catalonian town. The monastery is the highlight of the town, with it's gorgeous architecture and church. Definitely worth the visit! Stop by the bar/cafe by the abbey!

We stopped along the way to take a picture of a very old bridge. After that we decided to take a walk over the bridge and found a beautiful old church. It was a beautiful sunny day and we enjoyed ourselves

Very lovely historic town with a beautiful bridge. Lovely Abbey and interesting museum. Combine with a visit to Ripoll Abbey.

This village was on our planned way, so it certainly was worth the stop at Sant Joan de les Abadesses, to see this beautiful old structure.

This monastery church dating from the 11th century is now the main parish church of Sant Joan. I'd recommend attending a service, even if you are not Catholic. The sound of voices singing resonates in the ancient structure and connects one to its ancient past.

This is wonderfull old monastir with a museum inside, certainly worth visiting, to look at beautiful artifacts in the museum and monastir itself.
The monastir is still used for services, it is a special experience to go to mass there or just say a prayer or light a candle

Not only is the city itself a nice place to stop for a visit, but the bridge and surrounding are an interesting visit. Free parking is over the bridge, and to the left, and another left around the corner down a small street. You can park and walk the bridge and see it all in one hour.

We visited the Monastery on our way to La Seu d'Urgell, and we thought that it was so lovely that we will return and stay in this small town. The reception staff were very welcoming, and were keen to share with us their Monastery which was founded in the year 880.

During our time there, we walked through the cloisters into the Church which was concecrated in 1150, and then visited the Museum.
