Lovely, friendly place with lots to see.
Dec 2019
The practically and carefully repurposed house of a rich Victorian. There's a high Victorian drawing room, very correctly dressed and furnished.
Other rooms contain a very eclectic mix of historic and prehistoric items related to the area - Mesolithic microliths to police truncheons and most things inbetween. Really good, if my summary isn't.
There's a cafe/bar with a good snack/meal menu and nice staff.
And a huge range of temporary exhibitions and events.
Highly recommended.

We had our Vow renewal/50th Birthday party here and it was stunning! Everything to plan. Super organised, food gorgeous. Everyone loved the historic features in the building too. Wonderful staff who can't do enough to help and make an event successful and personal to you. Memorable evening. We also eat here regularly at weekends with our young children and its a lovely atmosphere with good food and drink all reasonably priced.

Little gem
Aug 2019 • Family
I've been here many times with my children and have always had a great time. The service is great and the food is delicious. Most recently I visited with quite a large party and we were seated in a large private room. We had the Sunday roast and I really couldn't recommend it highly enough - it was beautiful and so was the setting. It really made the meal feel very private and special.

Nice Day Out

Lovely setting, also great for refreshments and food. Museum has displays of old social history and animals. It also has a great room that is often themed with various artworks, paintings, ceramics etc. A relaxing hour or two, well worth a visit!

Lancashire History
Jul 2019 • Family
I took most of the family here for the 2019 Rawtenstall Annual Fair. All had heard the song, but didn't realise it was a joke version of a genuine event. The Whitaker is the ideal setting for this, which also includes Dialect - I Fest now. It is a beautiful park in a wonderful setting with excellent views across many of the dales.
The museum itself is a little gem, with some extremely unusual exhibits alongside a fascinating look at the history of Lancashire.
There is a lot for all ages to do, even when the Annual Fair is not on, with various areas including a children's play area.
The museum includes both a bar and a café.
There is ample parking on-site.

GREAT FOR LOCAL HISTORY
Jun 2019 • Family
The first time I recall coming here was about 25 years ago. My young son still remembers some of the animals that were on display. The museum focuses on very local history from furniture, clothing and relics from the evolution on local history. The rooms lend to the exhibits and ambience. I was impressed that there was an elevator for the disabled that did allow us to see more. Really a great place in the middle of a beautifully old landscaped park. A walk in the grounds added to an afternoon out.
