We took this forest train from Szilvasvarad to Szalajka Valley to the end of the line.
It was approx. a 15-minute ride. It cost HUF 900, one way adult ticket.
It was much fun! Take the open air carriage and enjoy the landscape and the forest!
Highly recommendable! :-)

Visited with friends, together we had 5 kids. From 6 months to 7 years old, all of them enjoyed the place quite much.

From the center of Szilvásvárad you can also take the forest railway or rent a bike if you prefer not to take the walking tour.
The road is filled with spectacle sights: Szalajka stream, wild animal display (with deers, stags, moufflons specific of the Bükk-mountain), Forestry Museum, trout farm, Rock Spring, Open-air Forest School, Veil Waterfall, etc. Szalajka spring provides water with the appropriate temperature for trout breeding.

It used to be a longer forrest line but now it is reduced to two station Szilvásvárad - Szalajka Völgy. Distance about 5 km and takes about 10 minutes, costs 900 HUF for one direction. It runs along the Szalajka Valley and offers nice wiev of the area. If you take a ride to the Szalajkavölgy station and walk back it is an easy trip and you can try the local trouts on the way.

The ride was about 15 minutes. It is relatively expensive but it worth every money. The forest is beautiful and the air is fresh and birds are singing.
It is great for couples but I'm pretty sure that it is best with children.

I recommend to buy one way ticket and go back on foot. It is a lot of interesting places on the way.

Nice , but boring I guess. With walk in Szalajka valley you could see a lot of beautiful views, hear a pleasent brook of the creek and the small waterfalls.
