- Vivek SCary, North Carolina7 contributionsPlace worth visiting in Goa.The place is amazing. Certainly worth more than Rs. 500 they charge that includes guided tour and lunch. Our English guide Aditi was very knowledgeable and always had smile on her face. Overall great experience. Would certainly recommend if you have couple of hours to spare. Also close to (driving) couple of temples if you wish to visit.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 1, 2024
- 360 travellerStafford, United Kingdom14 contributionsAn Educational spice and herb plantation trip well worth the visit. 5starTropical spice plantation was a great insite to all the spices used as food and medicine in the goan culture. We learned alot as our tour guide was amazing and spoke very good English. We enjoyed the buffet of home made dishes they provided at the end of our tour and ended the trip purchasing alot of spices and gifts at there on site gift shop. - Peter J45 contributionsA Spice Plantation for BeginnersThe Spice Plantation is an hour's drive from Goa Candolim. The location in the middle of a small forest is very beautiful. My visit was on a Saturday. The result: crowds, long queues! A spice plantation is also much quieter! The plantaion seems to be something like an amusement park for the local population. The entry fee of just 500 Indian rupees includes a buffet-style meal. The food is remarkably good, fresh and tasty. It will take time to refill. After the buffet there is a guided tour through the spice forest. The guides are very friendly, well informed and provide good knowledge about the plants and their uses. However, it may happen that you have to wait longer until a larger group comes together for the tour. Having seen many such plantations, I would classify the number of spices and plants on display as mediocre. You can only see the fruits and pods or roots such as ginger and turmeric as they occur in nature, i.e. sometimes very far away or, in the case of roots, not at all. Specimens such as cardamom pods, ginger root or turmeric root, among others, would be desirable here.Visited March 2024Traveled with friendsWritten March 18, 2024
- RavinderBengaluru, India75 contributionsA quiet walk in the parkIts a perfect time pass activity to enjoy with nature. The plantation is very well maintained. We reached a little after noon. The ticket price is 500 per person which includes a buffet lunch and welcome drink. The lunch options were good. They have a store with beer, soft drinks and ice creams which you can buy separately and is very nominally priced. The plantation tour covering different spice plants and process is commendable. Divya did a great job for our batch (the tours are organized in batches). You finish with doing Feni testing. You can also buy various spices that they sell from their farm. We enjoyed it thoroughly as you don't feel the blazing sun under the shades of the plantation.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 1, 2024

You can also buy various spices that they sell from their farm. The herbal tea they offer is clean and made from herbs that they grow on the plantation. The main attraction is the process of making feni. The food options for vegetarian & non vegitarian and the food is prepared in mud pots and served on plates made out of dried leaves which adds to its flavours.Visited July 2024Traveled with friendsWritten August 21, 2024

It was a fun tour and very informative. The Buffet lunch was tasty and delicious. One of the owners -Sandeep is very friendly and can be mistaken for one of the employees. The entire staff was great. There is a lot of products that is being sold that is good for a lot of health remedies. On a scale of 1-10 this location gets a 10.Visited November 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten November 11, 2024

The full visit with lunch and a shot of Feni was only 500 rupees. We had a great experience. Justin, our guide, gave us a very educational talk on how the spices are grown , which are they're culinary and medicinal uses, what's their yearly yield and many many more interesting facts. Justin was even telling us the names in each of the guest's native language.
The visit finished at the gift shop, where the spices were sold at very affordable prices, I deeply regret not having enough cash with me. They don't accept non-indian cards.
There was a complementary buffet-style lunch with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. A big variety of local savory dishes and a couple of desserts. If you are in the region, I highly recommend you pay them a visit.

As we walked across the bridge to the plantation we were greeted with a warm, friendly welcome that lasted the whole trip. We were greeted with a fall of petals all over us and a glass of warm lemon grass tea. Our tour guide talked us through the spices. This included how we could use the spices for self care as well as cooking. As the tour ended we were at the spice shop. Fantastic! Well priced bags of spices. The lunch, which was included in the cost of the ticket was a self serve buffet. Lots of choices for all tastes. We left after lunch very happy.

Big Spice plantation. Goan lunch included in tour price of Rs 400 per person .Nice preparation of food and plates made of leaves.
Tour was of short duration and every spice shown was offered for sale..
Can avoid if trip is packed .Place is bit far from Goa .So taxi and food will cost lot .
Totally commercialized and catering to various batches of tourists in row .

If you want a short review then here it is: Stay away from this place and if you have nothing else planned in Goa for the day then just chill at your hotel. That'll be more worth your time.
Long(er) review: The entry fee is a lot. Especially considering the quality of food that they serve. Instead of 500, they should charge around 100 per person. That would do the food justice.
They food was cold, bland & look quite bad. The 'buffet' was basically some food left in earthen pots in a hall. The taste was atrocious and nothing looked appetizing at all. You would get better food on the street, in any market in North or South Goa.
The tour of the plantation is quite short, they tell you nothing that you won't already know, and the guide just kept on giving out info in a robotic fashion. I don't know about people from other states but for someone like me who's from a coastal city like Mumbai, it was nothing new. We've the same plants and trees here and in other parts of the Konkan belt and the info was nothing new.
Moral of the story, it's nothing special. Avoid if you can.

Waste of Money & time. Go any where in Goa or either take rest in hotel room but never make mistake of visiting these place. Entry fee Rs.500 per person against which you will get unhygienic, unhealthy food been served at place where there is no cleanliness, dogs are sitting on table . No welcome drink or no proper cooperation once you pay. Its all commission business that taxi people get paid for bringing tourists at such terrible place.
Welcome drink serve after half hour coz they wait for more tourists together so they prepare drink for all at a time. Food quality is also horrible, smelly bread . Sitting arrangements is also worst . All tables are broken .
In short Goa tourism official should take notice of such place and should be shut down forever or make it proper

We had included this site in our itenerery during our Goa trip this year. And to confirm it, we had also called to ask whether we need to book our visit. The manager or whoever was on the phone said that no booking is required you can visit anytime between 10 am to 3 pm. So we reached the place by 11:30 am. And to our surprise, the Watchmen at the gate didn't allow us to enter saying that the booking is full, all German tourists are arriving. He was way too rude to us even after telling him about how we had called for booking our visit and how we (my wife and 3 year old daughter) were planning to have lunch there as it was included in the package. He simply closed the gate on our face.
We tried calling the manager who said that he will accommodate us only after 1 pm which was not fitting in our schedule.
This clearly shows how biased and greedy the management is towards foreign tourists. They just want to mint money. Their ethics and values are gone for a toss.
After sharing this incident with one of our family friends who had been here in the past, we even got to hear worse things about this place (food and hygene, overrated prices)
Please give a second thought before planning your visit here, you can't trust the management.

Before coming there read the truth. Nothing to see. All the business is based on pushing you to take drinks, food and guide who will repeat you what you can read on the internet. We were in this place 10 and 15 years ago. This was a real spice plantation, which started to die slowly. At that time there was a tag with information about each plant. Now if you want to drive 2 hours (with a return way) and pay 400 INR only for drinks and food welcome. Strongly not recommended

although it is in a beautiful setting, this is very disappointing. the name is misleading as we never get to see the plantation. instead, we walk briskly along a path where they’ve planted a few spice trees and bushes.
the welcome is silly with staff robotically throwing petals at people. the whole place is soulless and is not worth the journey.
and, i don’t see the point of advocating environmental practices when they sell their spices overpackaged in plastic. i also resented the advertising at the entrance.
on top of that, even water has to be purchased, and of course in plastic bottles.
highly disappointing

It's just a waste of time. They start as if they have huge area with spice plantation to show you, but the guided tour will end just in 20 minutes or so. They will show one plant/climber of a few spices and rest is left to your imagination. They showed us only one lemon grass plant. Then just one cardamom plant, one cinnamon plant an so on. Only one plant for which they multiple instances is betel nut. It will not give you the feeling of roaming around a plantation area.
They had a so called buffet spread for lunch which is also not worth mentioning. Overall, unless you want to waste your time, you shouldn't be here.

If you are interested in learning about spices, to try a Goan buffet that is good and to enjoy some time off in a quiet place, this is the place to go. Even during the day time, the shade of trees meant it’s not too hot. Just be careful not to pet the cats, they are stray and may bite (and you would need rabies shots). But that goes for all places in India and around the world

Are there certain times you have to visit to get a tour or can you come at any time?
Written December 27, 2018
It opens around 9 am and then they try to take people in small groups for tours, the lunch buffet is included in the 40 min tour ,so the best time would be near lunch hour .
Hope that helps you !
Enjoy your trip !

Hi, philnsue. What would you like to know about this attraction?
The food that you serve. Is it gluten free please? I can't eat anything that contains wheat, wheat flour, or barley in any form. Rice and corn are fine, as are all meats, fish, and all fruits and vegetables and spices. I have a thing called 'coeliac disease' which means my body reacts to the gluten found in wheat and barley. I know most Indian curries shouldn't contain wheat flour if they are made properly. Many thanks!
Written February 28, 2018
Hi.. I meant food is Gluten free there if you avpid breads.. They serve prawn curry and chicken curry in non veg and in veg its cabbage, indian yellow dal.. Sweet rice ans steamed rice.. And buns.
