(Known as the Chacabuco Victory Monument, it can be visited when you go to Portillo, walking along the winding Andean paths to catch a glimpse of the beautiful scenery of Laguna del Inca. It is located well before the intermediate depression of the grand Andes (or the Snail Road). This gigantic 20 meter high statue was designed by Hector Ramon Latorre and was built in 1971. It symbolizes the battle that took place in 1917, where thousands of peoples gave their lives on the battlefield many years ago to make Chile the country which is today. And this statue was erected there in honor of the brave warriors: it reigns alone in this place, to remember this historic battle that led to the independence of the country. We contemplate this beautiful symbol of the chilean people and, despite being in a far away place, it was very worth visiting. Few people know this monunent, its meaning or its history. Really I loved it!)😍💖
