- ZoeyDerby, United Kingdom7 contributionsBirthday treat! It was my first visit to The Owl House Day Spa yesterday and I've come away feeling very relaxed! It was a great experience, myself and two friends booked onto the '£69 for two people' offer. Although there were three of us, we contacted the spa to enquire if this offer could be applied to 3 people; which it was! We all paid £34.50 each for a back message and shoulder melt and upgraded to Afternoon Tea for £10 each - great value as it was a lovely vegetarian spread! Robes and slippers were not included in the offer and we were required to pay and extra £4.50 each. In addition; we paid £10 each for an extra hour of relaxation time, spending 4 hours in total at the spa - I would recommend paying for an extra hour so that your experience is not rushed, and that you have plenty of down time to read in the hut, or spend time in the jacuzzi and sauna facilities. The massage was wonderful and was sufficient in time; lasting for approximately 30 minutes. It too was specialised to my needs as I suffer with lower back pain and shoulder tension; opposed to a 'bog standard' massage that you usually receive at other locations.Dear Guest, Thank you so much for your review. We are pleased to hear that the experience as a whole was enjoyed by yourself & your party and that our additional package options made your experience all the more relaxing. We pride ourselves on our high standard of treatments and we are again so happy to hear that the massage was tailor made to leave you feeling soothed. I will be passing your kind remarks to the owl house team. We hope to welcome you again soon. - Angela SSutton on Trent, United Kingdom53 contributionsSimple and friendlyVisited with 2 friends for a long overdue catch up. We booked the Comfort Package on a great black friday deal. The staff were very friendly and helpful; none-instrusive but present if you needed anything. The treatment rooms were a little cool for my personal liking but it was really quite a cold day so perhaps there wasnt much choice in that. My friends and I appreciated that whilst it was a small spa it did not feel overcrowded at all and we were able to do what we wanted when we wanted. Nice touch of a complementary bag and cleansers in the lockers. Lunch was lovely, indeed there was so much food we couldn't eat it all. I would visit again and recommend to people who like the smaller more intimate spa experience than the larger establishments.Dear Guest, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us with a review. I am very pleased to hear that your visit was enjoyed thoroughly and that our staff were friendly and helpful. I will pass your kind remarks to our kitchen, therapy & hosting team. On your comments regarding temperature in the treatment rooms, we are restricted given the nature of the building. However we do our best to counteract the adverse weather and will feed your comments forward to our maintenance team to ensure adequate operating temperatures. Heated blankets are available during the course of your treatments and are located on the therapy beds to optimize relaxation. I am happy to hear that your experience will encourage a return visit and allow for your recommendations in the future. We hope to welcome you again soon. - Anna V1 contributionMagicalThis place is truly wonderful. The staff are outstandingly welcoming and easy to chat to and the food exceeded expectations too. The spa may lack some facilities but for that it more than makes up for in hospitality. While the spa only offers an outdoor hot tub in facilities, the setting is heads and shoulders above other spas of a similar pricing I have visited. I visited this spa on a particularly stormy night back in November 2020. Usually people may be put off the idea of being outdoors in swimwear in the middle of a November storm, but I've got to say this was one of the most amazing spa experiences Ive ever had. To be sat feeling so safe and sheltered in a hot tub with a canopy nestled among trees and wooden cabins, while a storm rages, is actually magical. But putting this storm aside, I was already pretty happy because I'd had an incredible back massage and I was about to eat what can only be described as a feast of cheeses and charcuterie. And rewind a little further, I was happier still before the amazing back massage simply because of the welcome I had. I could not have felt more welcome. It was absolutely a breath of fresh air. So often I feel judged or treated indifferently to a towel by staff. This was lovely. I truly felt like I was there for a treat. Worth every penny and more.Visited November 2020Traveled soloWritten May 2, 2021

The owl house website is far better than the customer service, After reading the terms and conditions that state treatments can be given to young adults between the age of 7 to 16, I found that the spa would not allow an 11 year old house any of the facilities, I was offered a private hot tub facility then was informed that they would not do this, I was also informed that no treatments would be allowed, only a nail polish, at the very end of the day, I asked if i could talk to the manager and was totally refused. I us to use the owl spa a couple of years ago and found it to be basic, however okay for a coupe of hours relaxation. I am not sure if the business has been taken over or not, however I certainly can see a change in this business and it is not for the better. I was that disappointed with the supervisor that I will never book here again or recommend the spa, very sad customer loss, especially in these current times.

Dear Marilyn B,
Apologies for any confusion following your enquiry into visiting the Spa. We do offer treatments for children and these can be found listed under the Children Treatments section of our Services on the website. At this time we are unable to offer a Facial for any guests until 15th August due to the Government Guidelines. Our company policy is that we are unable to carry out any Body Treatments on guests under the age of 16 including Massage, which is why were unable to offer you this option when you enquired, although i am aware our Supervisor did offer to book a Scalp Massage for your Daughter instead.
Our Facilities are only available for use by Spa Day guests and although we state we are able to carry out treatments for children, we can not allow children to attend on Spa Days unless on specifically designated Group Bookings. This is due to the fact for health and safety the Hot Tub temperature needs to be reduced which takes several hours. Our Supervisor did offer to book yourself and your Daughter in for Treatments in one of our double treatment rooms, followed by Afternoon Tea in our courtyard which you declined. At the time of your call i was in the Spa arriving guests and not available in the office to speak with you, as you did not wish to leave any details i was unable to contact you later that day to discuss this further. However if you wished to discuss booking a visit to the Spa please contact info@owlhousedayspa.co.uk and we can get this organised for you.
Kind Regards

The atmosphere at the Owl House is welcoming and relaxing without being pretentious - just what we like.
It is located in beautiful surroundings which have you feeling happy before you even arrive.
The treatments we had (full body massage and express facial) were carried out as safely as possible and with great care. Cannot comment on the spa area as we did not use it on this occasion.
Our day was topped off with a lovely afternoon tea in the garden area.
Thoroughly recommend you give this place a go.

First visit yesterday and it's a beautifully tranquil place! We had pedicures, a private slot in the hot tub, our own cabin to relax in and the biggest afternoon tea you've ever seen! The staff made us feel very safe, stuck to social distancing and kept things clean. They were so helpful.
We hardly came across any other visitors so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Obviously having never visited before Covid, I'm not sure if it's usually this quiet but it definitely made it even more enjoyable. Plus if possible, I think private hot tub times is a good thing to go forward with even post Covid!
Thank you for a lovely day and a great way to treat my mum for her birthday!

We had initially booked for Mother’s Day but what with everything going on, we finally got to use it last weekend and it was so lovely. Due to steam rooms/saunas and the pig in mud experience not being allowed to open, we were given afternoon tea with fizz as compensation. We found the spa itself easy enough on Google maps and were greeted with a welcome drink that reminded me of Umbongo (which I love!) We each got a locker too, and had to bring our own towels and robes again due to Covid. One benefit from Covid is that we got our own private chalet to chill out in with sweets and comfy sofas and our own allocated hot tub segment which we absolutely preferred! We chose facials and body wraps for our 25 min treatments all were great. The afternoon tea with fizz was also amazing and filled us right up - vegetarian sandwiches and scones and quiche plus some tasty brownies. The 4 hours flew by and the rain made everything much cosier! We had a lovely girly day and we are already discussing returning in December.

An Owl is not just for Christmas? As a member I go to the Owl every month. Today’s visit was exceptional. Firstly it was extremely peaceful. Secondly I had a wonderful body massage. Thirdly they have introduced Decleor YEY. Fourthly they had a guest therapist Ashley who was amazing please come back again. The aforementioned have equal value but I had to list them in some order. I feel totally at peace, my skin feels wonderful and I do not know what I would do without an Owl in my life.

This was my first time at the Day Spa, it was a Christmas gift from my daughter. She booked the Complete calm package. We had a lovely day, the Rustic lunch option was Great, I had the Ploughman’s Platter which I would recommend. The treatments were fab, we had the back massage, arm and hands massage and facial and head massage - very relaxing. The staff are very helpful and the Spa has a lovely feel to it. Would definitely go again.

After my visit to the Owl Spa my skin felt great . After sitting in a very HOT hot tub I tried the steam chamber Pig in mud, ..I felt like royalty sitting on a throne with steam surrounding me,.great back massages ensuring the pressure was just right. My facial was so enjoyable I fell asleep
All the staff were friendly and caring. After a stressful few days it was just what I needed. I left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

We were very well looked after at The Owl House - Beauty Temple. I visited with my partner for a couples hot stone back massage - staff were very attentive, all wearing masks which made me feel very comfortable.
Staff went above and beyond to ensure our visit was excellent. Thank you! We will be back.

Let me first say that the staff here were pleasant & polite & the massage and facial I had were both excellent. The setting is also lovely: What appears to be a converted set of stables in the very lush and pleasant grounds of an old priory.
This has the potential to be a very nice day spa but I’m afraid it’s not there yet for the following reasons.
Firstly, what separates a spa and a beauty salon offering similar luxery treatments is the presence of at the very least a sauna, steam room and quite often a cold shower, plunge pool & jacuzzi. The idea should be that you could simply opt to spend a few hours in the Spa, ignoring the treatments, and still come away feeling relaxed and refreshed.
That is why “Spa days” or “Spa afternoons” etc have hours built in to them when you’re not scheduled to be having any treatments – time when you can enjoy the other facilities.
At Owl House Day Spa we were certainly given hours to while away but nothing much to while them away with.
The only facilities are a couple of rooms with beanbags, magazines & blankets, some day beds and in the courtyard a hot-tub.
Yes. A hot tub. Sounds fun you say. It isn't. Hot tubs are not jacuzzis. The water is not constantly filtered and cleaned. It sits there thickening with oil, dead skin & grit until it is emptied & replaced. Not such an issue at a private party where a couple of people will spend at most an hour in the tub. Definitely an issue when woman after woman gets it, sometimes after an oil or mud based treatment, and sits for long enough for the dead skin on their feet to start to flake off.
In this particular tub the water was tinged with green & there was detritus floating on the top & lurking at the bottom.
We sat in it for want for something to do but it left me feeling sticky & dirty rather than cleansed and relaxed.
After 3 1/2 hours of hanging around we finally got taken through for our first treatment - The Pig in Mud Experience.
A strange one this - you're taken to a sort of steam room come shower with two deep chairs facing each other. We were both handed pots with mud, told to rub it over our bodies then sit & wait for the "tropical rain shower" to wash it away. It was pleasant enough but we were given about a third the mud we'd need to really cover ourselves.
After that we had our other treatments - a massage & facial for me, a massage & pedicure for my friends - & neither one of us had any complaints.
All in all this place has bags of potential. The setting & staff are great. Its beautifully decorated & apart from the hot tub, very clean.
But its simply not fair to market it as a spa when there are no real spa facilities. Especially when we were asked to arrive at 1 & then told wed not have our first treatment until 4.30.
The hot tub just isn't appropriate. A for reasons of cleanliness and B because of it had been raining we'd not have wanted to venture outside, even to get into a tub & so the only thing we'd have been able to do in our 3 1/2 hour wait would have been sit on a beanbag reading magazines.
Had we really understood what facilities there were and had we known when we'd be having out first treatment we have asked to arrive much later in the day.
If they add a sauna, steam room & some sort of cold shower/plunge pool, get rid of the hot tub completely & hand out a lot more mud for the pig in Mud treatment it'd be top notch.
As it stands though it's a high quality salon masquerading as a spa

Seems to be a lot of conflicting info re provision of flip flops. Do we need to bring our own? Or are they now provided please? On the phone I was told dressing gown and slippers are provided but on here people are saying take them. Which is correct please?

Good afternoon
When coming on one of our packages booked directly with us, you are provided with a dressing gown and pair of flip flops in your locker. When booking through a third party site, you will be provided with a dressing gown only but it should advise in the small print to bring appropriate footwear if you so wish.
I hope that this helps but if you have any further questions, please give our reservations team a call on 01332 818 818 and they will be happy to help you.

Casual comfy clothes. Avoid heavy coats if you can the lockers are larger than most but not that big for coats. Gowns and towels are provided. You'll need flip flops or sandals as you will be going outside to the hot tub and relaxation rooms. You might want to bring some toiletries for your shower. Have a lovely time...
