This is a pleasant little town in the countryside of the Beaujolais region. It includes a couple of boutique hotels, the “Caves of Clochemerle”, (a musty wine bar and museum), and a mural telling the story of the Beaujolais. The mural adorns the small tourist...More

Vaux-en-Beaujolais is a small, attractive village made famous as the fictional village of Clochemerle in the book by Gabriel Chevallier. We stopped here while visiting wineries in Beaujolais, and it was the highlight of the trip. The village’s tourism office outer wall is painted with...More

The Tourist Office is adorned with reproductions of the illustrations to Gabriel Chevallier's comic novel 'Clochemerle' and there is a very interesting museum with a film of his life. "Talking Flowertubs" were intriguing, Also a very good Cave to taste and buy Beaujolais Villages wines.

We had a hard time finding this place, but when we finally did, we were pretty disappointed. We saw only four other people the entire time we were in the town, and the museum and cave were both closed until 3 in the afternoon. We...More

A trip down memory lane with a visit to this enigmatic little village. Well worth a visit for lovers of the story. Try the bar in the square to see barrel tops painted with the story & characters
