We had a great 3 day trip in Parque Nacional Natural de los Nevados with Salento Trekking. We began as two groups of four and four guides (one of whom was a trainee on her first day), but our group ended up preferring the hike selected by the other group. Diego, the owner and one of the guides on the trip, coordinated for us to change our hike and merge groups with no troubles.

The hike was beautiful and we saw terrain/vegetation that was completely new to us. One of the guides, Christian, was very good at spotting wildlife to show us. Diego and the guides were also very careful to ensure that none of us suffered much from altitude sickness and that we were safe on the hike. I ended up being pretty affected by the altitude, so on Day 2 Diego took me and my boyfriend on a bypass route, meeting the rest of the group later in the day. Throughout the hike Diego shared many stories of the area and of his experiences. During the trip we stayed at two different fincas, both with kind people and very tasty and plentiful food. We even saw a tapir off in the distance at the second place!

Overall, our hike with Salento Trekking was the highlight of our trip to Colombia. I'd highly recommend Salento Trekking: the guides are kind, competent, and caring, and the setting of their trips is stunning.

I highly recommend Salento Trekking. They planned a tour that exactly matched what we wanted and were consistently helpful and adaptable during the booking process. Their management and organisation were helpful and responsive. They organised transport to and from Pereira airport, stored our luggage, booked a thermal area tour for us after our trip and made everything work perfectly. They are extremely friendly and yet thoroughly professional.
We climbed from the Cocora Valley into Los Nevados and stayed at two Fincas high in the mountains. Our guide, Ganer, was excellent. He judged our pace brilliantly, was very informative and looked after us really well on the trek and in the Fincas. (If you are staying in a Finca you should be aware that they are definitely basic! This is nothing to do with Salento trekking but just the only accommodation available).
So a big thank you to Ganer and all at Salento trekking. If we return to this lovely area it will be with them!

We had an incredible time in the mountains with our guide Janier from Salento trekking! We were taken on the most beautifull paths of the national park and to the summit of Nevado Tolima. The climb up Nevado Tolima is really strenuous and rough but thanks to our guide we made it up the top and got to experience the mesmerisingsunrise up there.
We really reacommed to book a tour with Salento trekking!

Thanks to Diego for contacting me; due to some issues internally, my trip was not within the normal channels. The receptionist that coordinated our trip seems to have used resources outside of Diego's policy and framework. Look forward to doing the summit upon my return to Colombia; thanks for your professional attention to your clients Diego.

My tour was nothing short of promise and misdirection/deception(see photos)! When we arrived we were told to meet in the morning at 8am; we also had conversations stating that equipment was being uploaded for Tolima! Once we arrived in the office, we were told a group had left at 6am (also a landslide), neither was true! Later in the morning we ascended with no sight of a landslide nor in the evening was there a group from Solento Trekking heading to Tolima (finca Argentina). Prior to our departure, we were told that we'd meet the group or be taken solo to the base of Tolima. Neither was true nor did it happen! We were taken off course, even when I stated to the guide that this isn't the route! The tour we were taken on was a previous tour I'd taken to Paramillo del Quindío! This route is almost never visible; there's a valley which creates low pressure clouds which inhibits you from seeing what they promise (guide); this is not what we paid for and suggest you not do this route (save your money)! Lastly, I gave Diego the opportunity to make things right, he hasn't!.

2 day frailejon trekk with guide Fernet

Positive: very well organised treck, which we found short notice. Very good information before. Small group of 3 people. Very nice and helpful guide Fernet, he planned the timing very well, he even gave his warm jacket to one of the participants, beautifull nature, frailejones were great, great Finca Buenos Aires, lots of snacks

Negativ: Guide did not speak englisch, but we knew before; Finca Argentina was very basic, quite cold, strict but helpfull lady there, food there not very much

in general: we were a bit unlucky with the weather- lots of rain one day, foggy; 2 days treck is quite demanding because of the altitude difference (1600 m), I would recommend easier 3 days treck if weather allows it, bring full rain clothes, plastic bags…

My friend and I did a 3 day trekking with Salento trekking agency on december 31st 2019 and we still can't stop talking about how amazing it was - despite the rain. The service is top knot from the beginning til the end : small trekking groups, good snacks, very safe guides, great communication ! We had Janier as a guide, great fun all along - even under the rain and while sliding in the mud ;) we also had the chance to trek with Carlos for a day as we got along with another group and merged with them on the 3rd day.
Diego, the owner fo the agency, was also of a great help driving us to Pereira airport as we rushed to not miss our flight !

As I said, the service was great from the beginning til the end. I strongly recommend picking this agency !

My wife and I went on the Salento Trekking wildlife tour with our guide Isabela for 3 days in mid-February 2024. This was an indescribably great experience! Great landscape and nature observations and challenging, but for reasonably fit people feasible daily stages between 2,500 and 4,200 m. Our guide Isabela brought us home safe and sound and was a very pleasant companion. Seeing life on the fincas was also very impressive. We can only recommend this company and its good guides to any vacationer in the area.

Recommended 3 day hike. I was on my own and could join a group via Salento Trekking. Together with our very friendly guide #Carlos Londoño we hiked through different landscapes. From jungles with small bridges, over mountain ridges to the top of a volcano. The route is demanding, but you will encounter different landscapes every day. I highly recommend especially with Carlos, who adapted the pace super to the group and fed us well :)

Avoid this company at all costs. They will scam you.
Not what we paid for.
The day before we left, the owner of the company told us the ‘schedule’. We were told we would get 16km trekking through La Carbonera, and then down to Salento from a mountain peak. We got 45 minutes in La Carbonera, more driving, then a 1.5 hour walk through a pine forest - not native to Colombia - and at 1pm we were informed that was it. 4 hours lost, £160 later.
Back at the office, we asked what had happened, and were told that the guide didn’t know the route well enough and that this was our problem, not theirs. We were so disappointed as this was our last day, and we’d only hiked 7km out of the 16km promised.
We asked for a refund for the hours left, and the owner tried to give us £5 back. It took us half an hour till we got £20 back.
In such a nice town, it is amazing to find such characters. Go to someone who cares.

Stunning scenery, very exhausting trek (for me, at least!), and great guides!

We went on the 4-day "Catching the Stars" trek to Tolima, and spent 3 nights in various fincas along the route. All very basic, but great atmosphere, food and friendly people. Our main guide, Janier, was perfect and made sure we were all taken well care of. Can highly recommend this to others.

Feedback to Salento Trekking:
it would be great if you could provide future trekkers with a more exhaustive list of what to bring. The one we got was quite basic and did, in my opinion, not cover what was needed for such a trek.
