We were kindly given an afternoon tea and use of the facilities package as a gift. First thing we had to do on arrival was pay £20 for use of robes, towels and slippers - these are not complimentary and we wish we'd taken our own.

The reception area looked rather run down in places and in need of repainting - the same of which could be said for the entire interior. Loose door handles in the mens changing room and broken key code lockers didn't improve my initial impressions.

The pool and spa area however is lovely, if again in need of repainting and tidying up in areas. As for the afternoon tea this was good with an excellent selection of food, we just wish the music was a little more relaxing and in keeping with a spa - David Guetta isn't who we associate with a relaxing, tranquil afternoon.

It's a shame this spa feels unloved and uncared for in places. If it had an entire repaint throughout, some work done to the ceilings, flooring etc and brought back to the standard you'd expect of a first class spa facility it could be excellent, however we'd class it as average.

How luxurious this spa is isn’t reflected in the price we paid. A very expensive day out for what it is. We bought the escape package and paid extra to upgrade from cream tea to afternoon tea. When the afternoon tea came out, a listed menu item was missing (the cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches). I had the veggie option with just two sandwich fingers - one was cheese and tomato and the other was egg Mayo. The standard sandwiches were ham with mustard and coronation chicken. There are also two small home made savoury pastries and 2 small scones.
The cakes are small and bite sized but overall the package is filling. One pot of tea/coffee plus one refill is included.
The relaxation/waiting area for treatment was swarming with flies, which comes as part of the country setting.
The large pool is a bit on the cool side but the smaller jacuzzi style one is very warm. There’s a sauna, steam room, foot spa and ice too.
The treatment chosen was the back, neck and shoulder massage which was nice but also very superficial (normally I feel a bit of pain or discomfort with massages so at least it was relaxing).
The showers have toiletries supplied. Shampoo/conditioner I think! They weren’t labelled. A little bit of a queue for showers at closing time.
The venue closes at 6pm so the day went by very quickly (arrived at 11am).
One other area for improvement would be the drinks menu and to offer a few mocktails as the terrace setting is perfect to have a virgin colada!

Spa and treatments were lovely, food was poor and service was hopeless. Whilst we were greeted well, the customer service ended there. We weren’t shown around or the facilities, I had to suggest we be taken up for our treatments as we were just left in the waiting lounge. We were sent to the wrong place for our afternoon tea, and what food and drink was served was poor quality. Even though we’d paid in advance we were asked if we wanted something less than what we had paid for…! There were lots of staff but they were just chatting to each other rather than working. We had to ask for water more than once, and we had to ask for our table to be cleaned (in fact the whole dining room was dirty with lots of used crockery sitting around). The carpet throughout the place needed a good vacuum. When we left the person on reception (blonde, about 40, I think she was the manager) grunted a bye. The service was so poor it was comical. The spa and treatments were nice however, but if you do go I suggest you don’t order any food or drink, and don’t engage with the staff (who don’t want to engage with you anyway).

Got myself a day pass with the intention of joining as a member and I was incredibly disappointed by my visit.

Tried 3 running machines before I found one that actually worked properly, machines seem very old (have the original iPhone connection that was discontinued nearly 10 years ago).

Changing room showers have some shampoo dispensers filled with some sort of grim liquid. Pool area had lots of broken tiles and what can only be described as the coldest hydro pool I have ever been in, it was actually so cold i had to get out to warm up!

I got chatting to one of the members, he said he had complained about these issues and nothing had been done. To top it off he said another member got the response off the management “if you don’t like it you can cancel you membership”!

Asking £100 a month for this is shocking, i can only assume they cannot afford to keep this place running…

Below is an email I sent to Reynolds Retreat which hasn’t had any courtesy of acknowledgment and it will highlight to you my experience too! Don’t waste your money!

Following todays spa day I’m afraid after talking to my friend about it that I would like to raise a complaint about quite a few things.

Upon arrival we were taken to the bar area to fill out forms and then got our bag of goods which was fine. However it wasn’t until we asked bar staff about ten mins later what we do now and are we into the spa that we were told flippantly ‘yes’ and to go to reception. We then got taken to the changing rooms and was told where things were and to get to the lounge area 10-15 mins before treatment.

Next we struggled with lockers and members even said how they never work as directed and absolutely pit luck. During this conversation we were then told by two members ‘DO NOT GO IN THE POOL’! We asked why and was told it was freezing cold and that the management knew and parts were broken. We weren’t informed this at any point and were shocked at how true it was! Freezing cold! The pool area looked pretty but cold water and heated beds which were by no means heated, was another disappointment.

Next our treatments were due and, as advised, we got to the relaxation lounge room about 10 mins before. We both had 25 min treatments x 2 and the beauticians called us literally bang on the slot and within 20-23 mins we were both done each time and back in the lounge. That means the 25mins included walking to and from the room and time to undress/dress and none were the full slots.

Then our afternoon tea was the final bit of disappointment. It was due at 1.30pm but we went down at 1pm and asked if this was ok and told yes. Then mishaps happened. Firstly although we got there early and asked if afternoon tea was ok at an earlier time we didn’t actually get anything until 1.45pm. I also thought earlier that day I’d ordered two coffees and a bottle of processco around 11am and also asked for a little birthday acknowledgment for my friend at the afternoon tea and the confetti and candles etc they mentioned never happened at all. It turned out I was charged for three coffees and no processor earlier that day and it just put a dampener and bad service on the afternoon tea. Additionally it wasn’t until we finished that I asked a staff member if afternoon tea actually included tea and she said yes you can!! Lame! Surely it should all go hand in hand and be better service than that.

I do feel staff members weren’t very professional either and all in all it was an average day and definitely not worth the costs we paid.

I visited the Reynolds Retreat at Sevenoaks and the service was appalling

I came in to relax after a stressful time and left even more stressed that when I came in

I booked the spa day treatment on a Saturday and it was one bad experience after another. My sister and I were made to feel unwelcome.

We booked the Spa day with the option to have lunch instead of afternoon tea and were advise during the booking which was done via phone by a staff that we would have to have our lunch before treatment due to time constraint - which we decided to proceed with as we were assured the restaurant was on site and food will be served in time
On the day, when we stepped in: we were supposed to be given a form to complete in order to get out meals prepped but we didn’t get that form which meant that when we arrived for lunch our names were not on the list, which then meant our meal was delayed. And due to this we couldn’t get the service we paid for!

There was no apology; no compensation; no genuine attempt by Reynolds retreat to remedy the situation - oh! They offered to give us free deserts but the sister who missed the meal is medically restricted from having sweets (and Reynolds Retreat were aware of this in writing and verbally!!)

My wife was a member but as we moved away decided to cancel membership. Tried a number of times to get through on the phone but was constantly cut off. Finally got through and was told she had to send a letter, which she did. Cancelled the DD after 2 months and then 6 months later we got a letter from a debt collection company. Spoke to them who advised us to speak to Reynolds. Unsurprisingly we couldn’t get through on the phone. We then had to drive to their Borough green resort and speak to the manager who apologised for the phone problems (which he knew about) but denied getting any letter and refused to cancel the debt collection. We had to pay 6 months past the cancellation notice and they then rubbed salt in by reporting my wife to credit agencies which has impacted her credit rating.
Obviously we wouldn’t go anywhere near this company again, but please be very careful and aware of their membership cancellation avoidance tricks, it really does cause a lot of grief.

My daughter and I visited this Spa recently for a day. After checking in we were shown to a waiting room, where you could order drinks, these are all chargeable. Reception gave us our bags and then we were shown to the spa changing rooms, and also where we could wait for our therapists. The bags contain a white towel, robes and slippers. My robe had lipstick marks around the collar, the towel was dirty. We had bought our own so used them. The treatments we had and the therapists that performed them were excellent and by far the best part of the day. The actual spa is uninspiring, dirty and needed a good tidy up. Dirty cups were everywhere, staff walked through without overshoes on, mud on the tiled floor, no one came to sanitise anything, it was just horrid. We had planned to stay for three hours, but left after one. The afternoon tea was okay, they missed off the cream and jam but this was swiftly bought to us when realised. I would only return for a treatment, never to use the spa unless it improves drastically.

Be aware, there are flies everywhere! To get into the building you have to battle your way through plagues of flies, only to be greeted with more when you are inside. Up the staircase there are more, albeit some dead all over the carpet, and in the waiting room and changing rooms, gym, you guessed it, more flies! This is not the first time this has happened, and even though they have tried, it isn’t enough. People pay lots of money to be a member here, and to have spa days, this is not the type of quality they are after.

I booked a solo spa day hoping for some pampering and relaxation and I was a little disappointed.

Positioned as a luxury spa I found it to be a little tired. The relaxation area was just a room with a cream sofa that was slightly grubby and a strange bit of string on the fireplace holding some plastic thing. Water was available but lots of used glasses left on the side.

The changing rooms were also a little tired too, half the lockers didn’t work, the handles for the toilet has been put back on crooked with black marks on the doors. The showers were the push button type that stayed on for about 30 seconds before you had to press them again, difficult when you are trying to wash your hair.

The pool area was nice but a few cracked tiles and some missing tiles from the wall just brought it down a little. The monsoon shower heads had a lot of limescale so the water flow was restricted. Sauna and steam rooms were very nice, sauna has an amazing picture window over the Kent country side. The floors are very, very slippery, take flip flops or some grippy shoes to walk around in, I slipped but managed to save myself.

Treatments - 25 minutes and exactly that, which also seemed to include undressing and dressing time. I booked an express facial and was not consulted on my skin type as such I am not sure what they used.

Afternoon tea was beautiful, they have a great chef and the sausage rolls were the best I have had and the champagne from Kent was lovely.

Overall I enjoyed my day but felt a little disappointed with the decor and treatments and the general condition of the resort, it needs some TLC to bring it back up to a luxury experience.
