Fantastic Natural beauty and a Good Road Trip. In a close proximity to Pune Panshet Dam is good Location for One day Picnic.

There are good eateries on the way which will serve lip smacking Kanda Bhaji and Vada Pav.

Go for it

I stay in Pune and i am frequently visit this spot. i enjoy the food at the location, they provide the boating and other water sports as well. if you are a group of people they even arrange accommodation on the dam they have very excellent tents very good for 2 people. sleep in open air below the blue sky. you can also go to near by hills in the night with the help of the organizers. There is a hotel at the dam and the contact person at the Hotel if i am not wrong is Mr. Vijay he is very helpful to arrange our entire stay of 2 days and 1 night at this dam, there is MTDC resort also available with in walking distance from the dam.

It is around 40km from Pune. It is very clam and pleasant scenic place to spend half day.
Lake is very beautiful with some water sports activity. You can do boat riding such as scooter boat ride, speed boat, banana ride, kayaking, paddle boat ride and many more. Check my uploaded photo for rates.
There is one small restaurant with some average quality of food but view from the restaurant is stunning.
There are some other options on the way to Panshet Dam.
Road quality is good and you can enjoy your road drive. Must visit place in monsoon.

we went to Panshet Dam camping with our 2 kids. The place has breathtaking scenery with amazing combination of dam water , mountains, greenery and clouds. But the overall camping experience was not good. Firstly the camping place is small and it's overcrowded with many tents. And mostly crowded by bachelors and young crowd. Be careful if you are going with Family and kids. We could not sleep whole night as the young crowds were drunk and shouting abusing each other till 6AM morning. It was not good for family and kids. Moreover the food we got in evening barbeque and dinner was below standard. Half cooked chicken, raw panner . Also very importantly, the toilet was very dirty with broken flush . Toilet was not getting cleaned even once in whole night or morning. Toilet should be clean and sanitised every hour. We would not suggest any family to visit the panshet camping with family. The price we paid we expected much better camping. I heard there are many better camping experiences around Pune we must try.

If you are planning only only for Mulshi Dam Trip then I would highly recommend to choose Panshet Dam Trip in place of it. Reason is given below:

i) If you travel from Pune to Mulshi Dam, you won't be able to see the Mulshi Dam at all I repeat you won't be able to see the Mulshi Dam at all.
It is under the control of Tata company who has built hydroelectricity power plant on Dam for supplying electricity to Mumbai. Hence Mulshi Dam is not a picnic spot at all with strict prohibition for public entry.

ii) The route from Pune to Mulshi Dam is very average without any scenery

iii) When compared on above points, Panshet Dam has following advantages:

a) You can see Dam from very very very close i.e. Dam edge itself.

Watchman / Security staff (local villager in casual wear) is there on the Dam, with his permission you can walk down to the Dam Gate that is only at 25 meters distance from security room.

On the opposite corner other side of Panshet Dam wall you will also see Varasgaon Dam wall. Both the dams are separated by a mountain in between.

Photography prohibition board is there near the Dam Gate. Take permission from Watchman / Security guard for photos near the Dam Gate.

It is a free entry upto Dam gate.

b) There is a shade opposite to security room with few metallic benches to sit & relax while providing good views of Dam back, water, surrounding mountains & green scenery. Can take photos without any restriction.

Open free parking facility available opposite to shade.

c) You can follow the main road further 500 meter adjacent to watchman / security guard room & running parallel to the bank of dam water. It will bring you to the place where four dam gates are there for controlling the flow of water in the artificially built wide concrete canal. At this place, local village dam staff in casual dress are available on duty. Take their permission & see it from very near climbing up the stair on left side near the edge.

d) Boating facility is available on other side of Dam. For it, you have to use the road on the Dam wall side. Take help of the Security guard / watchman for it's route.

e) Route:
Pune, Sinhagadh Road, Khadakhwasla Dam, Sinhagadh Fort Junction & Panshet Dam. Approx 50 km.
It is an easy & scenic route after Sinhagadh fort junction.
In case of doubt at any T junction please ask.
Neelkanteshwar, an excellent lord Shiva temple on top of mountain hill is at further 8 km from Panshet.

f) There are no restaurants or any shops on actual dam.
Small restaurants & shops are available at last bus stop of Panshet dam.
Last bus stop is very near to dam, less than a minute drive.
Few more restaurant & shops are available at main Panshet village.
Main Panshet village is less than 300 meters before last bus stop of Panshet dam.

If the water is released in plenty thru the artificially built concrete canals then one can see the good water fall type of view at base of the main Panshet village from the bridge on the river.

If you are from Pune plus physically fit individual / individuals & really want to plan your Panshet Trip in the best way then read below the helpful tips:

1. Start in morning & head first to Neelkanteshwar temple
Please read my informative review on Neelkanteshwar temple.
One & half to two hours visit time.
Visitors are there.

2. Then come to Panshet dam
Half an hour visit time
Less visitors to this place.
I have attached the photos of Panshet Dam it will give actual feel.
Photos are appropriately tagged for better understanding.

Photos will show you how close you can go to the Panshet Dam, whereas in case of Mulshi Dam while travelling from Pune to Mulshi dam that even after crossing Mulshi, Tamhini Ghat Mangaon etc you will be wondering where was the Mulshi Dam where was the road to Mulshi dam.

3. Visit Sinhagadh Fort on route to Pune
2 to 3 hours visit time
This place attracts huge visitors on week ends & public holidays.
Normal entry ticket & paid parking.
Restaurants are available in plenty on top of fort offering simple traditional Maharashtrian food.
Do read reviews on Sinhagadh fort.

4. Then head to Khadakhwasla Dam in the evening
Half an hour visit time
Evening attraction for plenty of visitors from all ages.

5. Return to Pune.

This is the best one day itinerary for planning Panshet trip.

Highlights of this one day trip will be Neelkanteshwar & Sinhagadh.

Hope the review & photos will enable readers to plan their Panshet trip in the best way.

The drive for Panshet is what i love the most. I ave been here innumerous times just because the roads are decent and the places are very scenic.
You have to cross Khadakwasla and drive ahead for more than 20 kms to reach here.
There are two Water Sports agencies here and you can have a banana ride, Scooter ride or a boat trip.
It would be better if you can plan a night outng and saty at a nearby resort over here. MTDC is right there infornt of Panshet and you have Abhiruchi Farm house also if you drive for 4 km more. Its also a decent place to stay.
Tip:
For one day trip its tiring a bit and if you still want to return the same day, then its better to start early in the day (say around 9 am)

Panshet is a beautiful place! Entire family liked the sunset view. It's around 60-70 KMS from Pune and the drive to this place is also beautiful.

The facility for toilet is pathetic and the only canteen/cafeteria served below standard and unhygienic food. The authorities should develop this place more.

I would like to book accommodation in nearby resorts for at least a night and visit this place again with family.

Panshet is a lovely place! It has boating and kayaking options. It is not too far from Pune. Sinhgadh and Panshet can be covered in same if started early morning. We liked the sunset view. Water is also bit clean. Food is not so good but there are other resorts.

Nice view, pleasant green environment polluted by debris from laris and picnickers (also bad smell around laris). Broken glass and litter everywhere.

The water looked clean and there were plenty of birds there which is a good sign.
