About
Overbury's Folly is architectural folly, that now serves as a recreational park located in Thalassery, south India. The folly is located on a hill near Thalassery District Court and is adjacent to the stadium. It slopes down from the sub-collector's bungalow to the rocks below and is named after its builder, E. N. Overbury, a Briton who served as a local judge at Thalassery in the 1870s.In 1879, Overbury wanted to construct a picnic spot at the cliff. He couldn't complete it, but the spot later earned the name "Overbury's Folly". The folly commands sweeping views of the Arabian Sea.Today, Overbury's Folly has been renovated and redecorated as a tourist attraction. It is frequented by local people in the evenings as a place to relax. A seaside open-air coffee shop also works occasionally opens on the folly.

This place has the most spectacular view of the Arabian sea. Please dont miss out this place if you ever come to Thalassery. I really dont understand why this place is not getting much publicity which it really deserves and this is one of such places which has great potential for a tourism.

Overbury's Folly is a small seaside park, mainly for locals who spend the evening viewing the sunset over the Arabian sea. It offers a nice view of most places around Thalassery, but the view tower is full of graffiti and litter.
It is located near the SAI stadium and Juma Masjid.

This attraction situated within the main town, near to the municipal stadium. Take immediate left turn after the stadium when you drive from Thalassery town to Kannur on NH 17.

Weekend evening was bit crowdy when we visited. You can have a nice long view of the Arabian sea from this slightly elevated position. But seats were limited in numbers and we found it difficult to sit on the unpaved floor. You can spend couple of hours calmly watching the sea in the evening for sure !!!

Last but not the least, car parking was really a headache thing. It was not organized and people were just parking their vehicles here and there as per their convenience. We found it really difficult to take our vehicle from the inside parking.

A nice attraction, which can be kept much healthier.

Don't go to Thalassery and ask an auto driver to take you to Overbury's folly- most of them don't recognize the name. Tell them you want to go to the seaside park behind the municipal stadium/ SAI sports school. Once you manage to reach there, you will be angry at the person who called it a folly. Its a beautiful place, although small, to go and hangout sitting idly watching the sea. Very well maintained place. A very romantic place if you have time to enjoy the sunset from there. Worth going
