Our ship docked in the early morning. Met at the end of the pier and a guide pointed us to the queuing area. A little confusing there, but there were plenty of friendly guides to help out. The two hour bus ride to the ruins...More

We booked an excursion from our cruise ship in the port of Costa Maya. While I generally book directly with tour providers, in this case the timing was close enough that I opted to go through the cruise line, which in turn contracted with Native...More

We drove from Bacalar to Kohunlich. There were very few people at this attraction and so we were able to take our time and enjoy the peace and quiet...nothing but the sound of the warm breeze and tropical birds. You'll want to bring lots of...More

The site is far from port. Over 2 hr trip each way but worth it. Just don't get stuck in the back row of one of the tour vans! I can say our guide made the trip. She was extremely knowledgeable about everything, not just...More

Plan on some walking and climbing. We made it there late in the afternoon because of a mixup with Carnival cruise lines. It was really nice because there were maybe only 60 people in the whole ruins area. The late afternoon sun made for some...More

The ride from Costa Maya port was 2 hours but worth the trip. The guide was essential to the visit and gave us (about 16 people) so much background information into the Mayan culture, the restoration work of the archeologists, the location in the rain...More

Visited these ruins on an excursion off the cruise ship from Costa Maya. A bit of a bus ride to the ruins, about 2 hours each way. Got about 2 1/2 hours at the site itself. Unlike Chichen Itza and Tulum you are allowed to...More

Depends on age and their ability to enjoy the historic site. This is not a playground even though there is plenty of space. There are plenty of opportunities to get lost so you need to keep a close eye on them.
