Visit Lecce, the Florence of the South renowned for it's stunning baroque architecture. Otranto is a seaside town famous for it's Cathedral containing fantastic mosaics and for its castle. Castro is a small, sleepy fishing town with stunning views over the sea and a tranquil piazza, a great place for a coffee .

Around the Cathedral is very quiet (in September!) and it has a peaceful aura. There are plenty or 1600’s paintings directly to the stone and Byzantine remains of previous church and crypt exposed down one side. Walks around to the left onto the terrace to see the remains of the Messepian walls and those of the temple of Athene. Of course th castle is adjacent too.

The beautiful Cathedral is right in the heart of the historical centre. I recommend to enter the Cathedral and visit the nice interior which is always a pleasant and relaxing experience. Please spend some time and stroll around the small streets around it.

The Cathedral is a beautiful space and has interesting ruined crypt apse frescoes to the north side. The warmth and colour of the stone is always impressive.
