Noble residence dating back to 1300, initially a defensive fortress ("Rocca") then transformed in the seventeenth century into a palace, still inhabited by the Owner, the elderly Prince Meli Lupi. The brick exterior is simple and austere, the interiors are spectacular: some rooms do not have an inch of wall devoid of frescoes (by the Galli brothers and other artists), others are decorated with a sumptuous Baroque. All the furnishings, furniture and furnishings are original: this fact left us ecstatic especially because the day before we had visited the Royal Palace of Colorno, desolately emptied of everything by the various birds of prey owners. Here, however, it is appreciated that the continuous possession for centuries by the same family has preserved the beauty of the castle intact. The visit is allowed only accompanied by the Guide (reservation is required); I read contradictory reviews on the competence of the latter, which gave us the impression of making only a brief repetitive description. In this respect, the visit is, in my opinion, too short (less than an hour) , not enough to fully and calmly enjoy what is visible (which is why I do not give the maximum Rating). Also we could not visit the garden because we were told that it had to be booked separately (something not properly reported on the site). The cost of the ticket is 15 euros, so a bit expensive, to which to complete the experience and have a memory should add 10 euros to buy the book on the way out, since it is not allowed to take photographs (which gives rise to some suspicion...).

Rock just fantastic!!! Frescoed rooms and original furnishings of the time perfectly preserved. Highly recommended visit, we met the Owner, Prince Diophebus VI Meli Lupi, who still resides in the manor and is the architect of the conservation

Still inhabited by the owner and it shows: in all the other visits we practically found no furniture and furnishings, but here everything is still there. The guide, very kind and knowledgeable, also told us a little about the history of the place. Is worth

Fortress still inhabited by Prince Meli Lupi. There are fascinating frescoes, well maintained with many furnishings and objects still present to admire. Congratulations for the very knowledgeable and engaging guide. A fortress that deserves to be visited

Palace with rooms, frescoes, furnishings in substantially perfect condition. A happy surprise, I have to say truly mind-blowing. To embellish the visit a very bright and attentive Guide. It's definitely worth the ticket price. Recommended!

The visit to the fortress was very interesting. It is well preserved, fairytale rooms, furnishings and paintings. The guide was very good and clearly explained the entire history of the fortress. The outdoor park is also pleasant. Definitely worth a visit.

Very special tour of the castle. We had a private guide who explained the history of castle over the years. There is a small room on the ground floor with a very special story. On the 1st floor, the “noble floor”, there has been a lot of restoration, which was interesting. Perhaps the highlight was that we actually saw the prince, who still lives there, and he started up a short conversation. He was very nice and his English was great.

beautiful structure very well preserved with interesting interior furnishings.
It has no parking which must be found (apparently without great difficulty) in the surrounding area.
Some doubts about access with wheelchairs, as the visit extends over two floors (ground and first) and I didn't see any lifts or signs indicating their presence. Ditto for the toilets.
The visit was very subdued due to the lack of involvement of the guide, who was worried about hurrying.
He reiterated to us several times that the Rock is private and still inhabited by the owners, so in my opinion it would have been nice to give a little life to the rooms, in the style of the Loire castles, with the presence of flowers or furnishing accessories.
In some cases it seemed that they were random old things rather than the result of suitable furnishings.

Guided tour, it's the only way to do it, during the Christmas holidays, I recommend taking a look at the timetable because it closes during the midday break.
Fortress which is still inhabited by the princes but you can still see several rooms with a beautiful gallery and the princely area full of gold and splendor.
I definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area and the cost is not excessive.

A fortress full of frescoes, stuccoes and contemporary furniture from the 17th century. A real pearl! The fortress is still inhabited by Prince Meli Lupi. I highly recommend the visit (especially on weekdays), which unfortunately lasts about an hour. Entrance €10 absolutely well spent

The Meli Lupi Prince is still leaving here (he was actually at the entrance, could even chat a bit with him! ), but you can visit quite a few rooms on 2 floors with a very exhaustive guide: she described the history of all the branches of the noble family and of all their achievements, the characteristics of lots of the impressive artifacts, paintings, stucco, room after room. Nice view of the park from a small terrace: unfortunately you can enter the park only at specific hours in the high season weekends, but you get an idea of it from the terrace and some of the windows.
We also learned about the (sad) story of the ghost still living here..
Definitely worth the visit.

As we had some time to spare, we made a detour to Soragna and we did not regret it. The palazzo houses some spectacular rooms. We were all alone during our ‘tour’ (COVID-times) and unfortunately the guide only spoke Italian; so he guided us from room to room and we read an English brochure with the explanation.

Pianura Padana - The Po Valley, Po Plain, Plain of the Po, or Padan Plain

The most beautifully well kept home !
Miles and miles of fresco and Baglioni grotesque art
Amazing!
Flat countryside and excellent food at the Stella d'oro keeps you going and dreaming and imagining what and how the gentry life used to be while walking the village ...
And still is in many ways as tradition in the castle is a must!

I attended a private event here last night that was simply stunning. The castle is aging gracefully and is full of character and luxurious details from a bygone era. The rooms and hallways are appropriately grand, as are the gardens. Well worth a visit.

Instead of going to the big castles, where people are too numerous we decided to visit this one.... So gorgeous, near to an excellent restaurant and to Fidenza where you can find anything you need (in case you forgot sth at home as we did;)))
I recommand you to go there during the morning (because it's fresh)

Unknown fortress near Parma. Nice guide, short visit 'cause it's still inhabited, so, many rooms aren't open to the public. Even though it's worth a visit since the furniture are splendid and well preserved and the same goes for the frescoes.
