While wandering through the town of Pisogne we climbed the stairs to this traditional structure. As we got closer to the door we heard the organ playing and we went inside. Someone was practicing on the organ and we we treated to wonderful music. The interior is magnificent!

There are not so many places where one can see Romanini's frescoes. This church is one of the most impressive examples. Plan your visit for afternoon and check opening hours (we were there about 5pm).

This little chapel is presently owned and maintained by the city of Pisogne and used for, e.g., exhibitions. BUT: when you enter the open door (no access fee, no staff when we visited on a Tuesday afternoon) you are met by the most fantastic frescos depicting the Passion, by the master Romanino. It is worth a detour.

This stunning little church in the town of Pisogne is covered with the most beautiful high Renaissance frescoes by a relatively unknown painter called Romanino. They are called the Sistine Chapel of the Poor and they really do rival the beauty and complexity of that famous chapel. I can't understand how this is not mentioned in any guide books (at least not the ones I use) and we only found out about it because it was on the back of the lake map we got from the tourist information office.

We wandered in just before closing time on a weekday evening; no one was there. The paintings are striking, immediate, and in some ways surprisingly modern-looking.

Calling it beautiful is limiting. A small church full of frescoes by Romanini (called the Sistine chapel), to be visited absolutely Free
You can appreciate it in all its forms and make all your assessments and photos, without any kind of stress and large crowds.
Visit it because it deserves so many.
We were the first of July 2024.

Pisogne was chosen to visit the upper Lake Iseo.
We then discovered one of the gems of the lake. Madonna of the snow visited before a funeral otherwise we could not see her inside. Bishop's Tower in the town center, where until 1500, in front of the tower the so-called witches were burned. From the top of the tower you can admire the village on the lake. Beautiful experience.

To see for those who already know or want to know the painter Romanino, here he tells the last part of the life of Jesus.
