The pier is outstanding and when you read the info about it the history is quite amazing. Plenty of people out on the pier, cycling, walking and fishing. I think this is also the park where we came across Wednesday Markets .Lovely small market and very friendly. Music playing as well but what I enjoyed most was the quartet that call themselves the Red G Strings, they were excellent.

This pier has a very interesting history and it's so impressive that it has been retained as a public facility. At 800 metres plus it may not be as along as when first built but it's still a great stroll to the end and back, particularly in the evening when it'sa superb place to view th sunset. Something you should definitely do when your in Hervey Bay.

There was so many amazing sunsets at the Urangan Pier! On low tide if you time it right you can walk all the way out underneath the pier on the sand, a very cool experience. This place is amazing.

I cannot resist a pier. Just have to walk it. And this one is a beauty at 900 metres. There's always people fishing at the end and they come well equipped with an arsenal of rods and lures. Their high expectations are proven by the amount of scales you see and the tall stories they tell. I hear you can see turtles, dugongs and sharks if you're lucky. Plenty of pelicans too.

At 0.8km long this is a long pier but a good way to exercise and enjoy the sea without getting your feet wet. During my walk to the end of the pier I saw a large turtle wallowing below the surface and on the other side a couple of dolphins playing, you don';t see that everyday, maybe this was my luck day. Plenty of fishermen at the end of the pier hoping to catch Giant trevally but with not much luck. Interestingly, at low tide the pier has no water under it at certain points, just sand, if caught at the right time you can walk under the pier at its mid point, such is the tide movement in Hervey Bay. Very enjoyable walk and if you go there on Market Days you can have a stroll around the market and take in the atmosphere of Urangan

It has been a standing joke here in Hervey Bay to tell any tourist who asked about the history of the pier that it was supposed to be a bridge to Fraser Island but the government changed and they ran out of money. If fact it used to be a major commercial jetty allowing large ships to deliver fuel and other heavy goods but the ships got bigger and the bay did not so they could not fit any more. The storage sheds and railway lines are long gone but the jetty remains allowing people to fish without boats and just wander out to sea a few hundred metres. It is quite interesting especially for kids as they don't get to see things like this very often. Grab a coffee or softdrink and maybe some fish and chips or burgers from one of the shops near the jetty and wander out to take a look and have a quiet meal.
Of if you like to fish there are a number of tackle shops close by and even if you have no idea they will help you get started. There are usually whiting about so you may catch diner.
All in all if you are visiting Hervey Bay it is worth looking at as it is free and easy.

Walking along this pier with many children families fishing from the pier. Children as young as 7 years old . Great to see. Not much caught but they thoroughly enjoyed the time as a family. Bikes wheel chairs prams etc can access the pier very easy. Numerous fish can be caught such as flathead, trevally, salmon and many more species. Live bait the best with prawns, squid the next best.

I only stayed here for a short transition, but I treated myself to a walk on this Hervey Bay wonder. The pier is approximately 900 metres long, and constructed of mostly timber and concrete. Fisher people of all ages gather along its length, to hopefully catch a feed of fresh seafood, or joggers seen running its length for exercise, I simply just enjoyed the majesty of this wonderful icon, and talked face to face with a couple of inquisitive pelicans (The large sea birds). These two large birds were just sitting on the railings, hoping for a piece of bait or scrap fish to appear before their eyes. See this pier if you are visiting the Hervey Bay region, you owe it to yourself to take a walk on history.

Walking out along the pier on our first morning in Hervey Bay and there flying alongside us were a pair of beautiful Brahminy Kites. Chestnut Brown backs and wings with a white chest and head, two truely beautiful birds.
The pier is also the home to a number of Pelicans who sit by the fishermen hoping for a free lunch. Cested Terns and Brown Boobys hunt for fish in the shallows along with the odd Gannet and numerous Silver Gulls feeding off scraps from the fishermen.
We were fortunate to see a Dolphin on several of our " walks along the pier" and a nealy a kilometer long its a great walk at any time of the day.
Recommended.

The pier is very unique and a standout attraction....a must do to walk all the way to the end. Local fisherman are spread the length and there is always a pelican or two standing by for any fish offerings from the fisherman. Loverly sunset/sunrise location and pretty good photo platform.
