About Spirit of Hervey Bay
The Spirit of Hervey Bay is a luxurious, fast power catamaran that gets you to the whales playground in minimal time for maximum time spent interacting with the whales. The speed allows the team to cruise from pod to pod (group of whales) and view the most active whales in the Bay. The Spirit also has heaps of room to keep you warm inside whilst we travel to and from the whales, but still allows for spectacular views of our lovely bay through the large windows. With five levels of viewing decks, including our fantastic underwater viewing rooms which place you below the waterline to view the whales in their underwater playground and the amazing waterline viewing platform for those extra close encounters. The Spirit offers the most viewing area of any boat with no crowding and everyone has a front row seat. Our best value cruise also includes a morning or afternoon tea of cakes, cinnamon buns, biscuits, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and juice and on our 3/4 day cruise you also receive a cold buffet lunch with cold meats and fresh salads. Other freebies include a souvenir whale DVD, free wifi and courtesy pickups from touristaccommodation. You can’t get better than that. The Spirit is a locally-owned company operating in Hervey Bay waters for the past 26 years. Our expert commentary of the whales and Fraser Island offers a unique insight into the whales antics and migration pattern with a bit of Aussie larrikin thrown in. The crew are all locals who have lived in the area for more than 15 years which gives them vast knowledge of not only the whales, but also Hervey Bay and surrounding areas. So do not miss out on seeing these gentle giants in the “best place in the world” to view humpback whales aboard the “best value cruise in the bay. See you aboard the Spirit.

It is the end of the whale season but we did get to see a few mums with their bubs. It was very special.

We had fabulous weather heading out on the afternoon cruise. The boat is huge and well equipped to hold a lot of people. It gets you out to the bay quicker than some of the other tour boats. Plenty of seating inside and outside. The afternoon tea was a little disappointing. Mini muffins & biscuits, a bowl with apples & oranges, tea and coffee. Maybe we've been spoiled on other whale watching cruises? We didn't have any close encounters like we have had on other boats. Maybe it's the size of the vessel? Although we did see calves breaching quite a few times, they were not particularly close to get any decent photo's. The staff were friendly. We would have liked more commentary perhaps on the region, on Fraser.

Thanks for your review, we appreciate your feedback. As you say the Spirit of Hervey Bay is a fabulous large boat, with plenty of different levels and lots of room inside and outside. As you would appreciate, COVID has impacted on our morning and afternoon teas. The best time to go for the close encounters is in August. This is when the juveniles come through and they are more interactive with the boats than the mums and babies that come through in Sept and Oct. I can assure you it has nothing to do with the size of the vessel.

I had a most excellent morning onboard Spirit of Hervey Bay recently - the vessel is spacious and has so many different vantage points to view the Whales from. Upon leaving the marina we arrived in the whales playground in no time and we were treated to a calf doing multiple breaches. The onboard commentary by Loui was very interesting and informative providing lots of insights into the whales of Hervey Bay. The crew were very friendly and helpful making it a very enjoyable morning. Thanks to all the crew for a fabulous day. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to head out to see the Humpback Whales in Hervey Bay. Five stars from me :-)

We may be a bit biased but we reckon we have the best boat for whale watching in Hervey Bay...as you say lots of space and many different angles to view the whales from (including of course the underwater viewing windows!) So pleased you had a fabulous morning out with us. Thanks for your 5 star recommendation. Much appreciated.
