A good place to experience local wine, food and the history of wine making
Oct 2021
Bodegas Monje is an ideal place to get a sense of the development of vineyards in Tenerife. it was established originally in the 18th century and because it avoided phylloxera, the bug that destroyed the European wine industry in the 19th century, some of its vines are original and over 200 years old.
The tour is well organised and the guide managed a bilingual group well. We explored the wine making process and also the history of the place as it developed over the centuries. It’s production is mainly red wine based on native grapes such as Listan. We elected to try only four wines with local cheeses at the end of the tour because we were also having lunch in their excellent restaurant which has great views over the vineyard and the bay and has a very good local menu of traditional dishes.
If you want to experience a typical winery with history and excellent wine and food this is a good place to visit and it just off the main highway and accessible from all parts of the island

I would not hesitate to recommend a visit to Bodegas Monje
Sep 2021
Wow this is quite a location for a wine tour! We went on an excellent tour of the winery led by a super knowledgeable guide. During the tasting session, we tried 1 white and 3 red wines all paired with cheeses from different Canary islands while overlooking the vineyards and distant ocean. Felipe the owner is a really cool chap, and his team were all super friendly and professional. We were invited to do a mojo workshop and due to other commitments we weren’t able to stay, but I’d be so delighted to go back and try it out—it looked like great fun to prepare mojo and taste their delicious wines at the same time. What I found most enticing is that if you sign up to be a part of the wine club, they offer to store your precious wines in their cellar and come back whenever you wish to enjoy them. There was also a pop up studio with an artist who was tinting clothes using leftover bits from the winery, and it was great to see that the owners care about sustainability, supporting other entrepreneurs, and using a dash of creativity in their operation. I would not hesitate to recommend a visit to Bodegas Monje, and I can’t wait to go back!

Good winery and vineyard
May 2021
I had stayed a hotel in Santa Cruz and visited this winery by bus ~30min plus on foot ~20min from the bus terminal in Santa Cruz. The vineyard and winery tour was conducted at first. The staff was very kind and really knowledgeable. She explained about the climate/weather, soil and vine in Canary islands. The way to make wines were also interesting and the winery was really nice place. After the tour, I tasted 4 wines with some cheese. All of them were excellent in aroma and flavor. I really enjoyed the time there.

Tourist trap with negligent service and lousy wines
Feb 2021 • Couples
Don't expect much from their wines, but the service was really negligent for us, too.

We had dinner at the restaurant and then took the tasting of 8 wines.

Dinner was fine, but the tasting was extremely appalling and amateur.

The lady at the reception was really insistant that we additionally take the cellar tour for a few euros extra, which we didn't want to do after our dinner.

Then we were simply left at the table with 2 wines in the glasses. The waitresses would occassionally come to fill them up with another wine, only reading out the labels for us (grape, vintage).

They didn't even bother to clean up the table after spilling one glass.

We left after 6 or 7 wines after waiting for ~20 minutes, because our table was simply forgotten.

I'd recommend to avoid this tourist trap. Wines are far from great and their focus is definitely not winemaking.

Visit and aperitive
Dec 2020 • Friends
Monje was recommended as a top wine yard of Teneriffe. Visit was okay, but nothing special. An ordinary wine yard. Less than ordinary was the wine tasting and the snack. The wine was mediocre and there was just a small snack served.

This is a sign that you should not eat in the Monje restaurants. Vegetarian options are also poor and expensive.

Go better to the Casa de Vino. There is an interesting museum. Avoid Monje.

Well Worth It
Sep 2020
We were lucky enough to discover this place, nestled in a beautiful part of Tenerife, with great views and lovely countryside. We chose the Wine & Cheese tour and our guide, Blanci, made it a super visit. She is very knowledgeable and her English is excellent. The tour itself is interesting, with plenty of chance to ask questions.

After the tour, we went into the restaurant area and were given a selection of local cheeses and wines to sample. I don't drink red wine unfortunately but was given delicious white wines and a Muscatel instead. Definitely one of the hi-lights of our time on Tenerife. Not too much walking and of interest, I imagine, to all ages.

Heaven
Aug 2020 • Friends
I’m actually still at the restaurant. Read a great review on Fodor’s and Tripadviaor and decided to come here. Fantabulous! View is amazing and the highly recommended pork dish is amazing and homegrown wine was a perfect compliment. It feels as though you are eating in the midst of clouds because you can see the clouds floating around you. You must come here because it will make you feel as though you are in heaven. And the double espresso I had after our meal was perfect

Lovely winery
Mar 2020
Lovely winery with a friendly staff and amazing view. Tour was short but very informative and interesting. Rooms which were shown were well selected to represent the winery.

Wine and cheese tasting afterwards was heavenly. Perfect wines with perfect cheese and we were able to enjoy the beautiful view over the wine yard and mount Teide as well as the Atlantic Ocean. They even kept the restaurant open longer for us so we could taste some more wines and their delicious foods.

Of course the view would be better if the winery is visited during the summer season (we went in March).
Definitely worth the money!
