More than 3000 years all collected in two rooms. For a truly comprehensive understanding of the island, you must visit the archaeological museum. It has a replica of the Aphrodite of Milos, the world famous statue taken from Milos and now in the Louvre.

This museum is small but important. The collection is incredible and you can stand so close to it. The staff are wonderful and this place will captivate your imagination and interests in Greek History and Culture.

It's a very small museum including items from archeological sites of Milos. Although items are interesting for sure, museum is in old-style (glass cases only and staff following you step by step) and it's hard to get interested. The main attraction is a copy of Venus which was discovered on Milos (original is in Louvre). I think this place is nice for archeology freaks, but if you just pass-by, it's not a must-go place. Ticket is 2E.

Located in Plaka, easily accessible by bus or car. The archaeological museum has a small but interesting collection of pottery and some statues. They have a replica copy of the famous Venus de Milo statue (original in Paris). There are also artefacts from the Minoan period
Admission is a reasonable €2 and takes under an hour to look around. Admission hours vary but it appears they are closed on Tuesday. There is a taverna right in the square adjacent to the museum and some interesting nearby shops.

It's a small museum but it has interesting artifacts from the early settlements on the island. Takes about 90 minutes to go through. Inexpensive.

In the lower part of Plaka, by a little square, stands an attractive building from the late 19th century, which from the style would belong more to the neoclassical town of Ermoupolis on Syros than here.
The house with a porch in front houses the Archaeological Museum of Milos and is definitely worth a visit for anybody interested in the rich past of this island. Entrance fee is 2 Euros.
Inside there are four rooms. In the first one a real size plaster copy of the famous 'Venus of Milo' can be seen (the original is in the Louvre) as well as some pithos, large storage containers from clay, and obsidan blades from the neolithic period.
The second room is no doubt the most important of all with artifacts, especially pottery, from the Bronze Age on Milos. The highlight - probably of the whole museum - is here the painted statuette of the 'Lady of Philakopi' (mid 2nd millenium BC).
Rooms 3 and 4 show finds from the Greek, especially Hellenistic, and Roman period. In the first one mainly sculptures, in the second pottery.

My first trip here it was closed so I came back on a Saturday ( they are open 9-4pm and closed Mondays and Thursday when I visited, thought I should put that on here as I couldn’t find opening times anywhere online!) and it happened to be free as it was a national cultural weekend of some sorts as I know the museums in Athens were also free this weekend. Very small museum but enjoyable to understand more of the islands history.

For a small museum on a small island, this is museum is charming. There is a replica of Venus de Milo given to the island by the French government among other interesting archeological finds. There is an excellent museum guard who is passionate about her work, has studied a lot of history and will answer your questions knowledgeably.

Was looking forward to visiting the museum whilst on holidays in MILOS . Checked on the Internet before going. Hours 9.15 to 3.15 then again at 6.15 to 9.15 , so scheduled a visit for the evening before having dinner in PLAKA.
WAS most dissapointed to find out we I got there closes for the day at 3pm and doesn't reopen. For us tourist we search information and plan accordingly .

Wow!that`s what we said when entered the museum!you cannot take your eyes off this statue!even without arms(destroyed by those who carried it away from home) she was MARVELLOUS!people could not go anywhere else, just standing there staring!I had seen it in tourist guides but you cannot imagine how beautiful it is from a closer look!bravo guys for the precise job until the marbles come back home!also the "Kira tis Filakopis" was so nice!a true proof of the glory of Greek civilization that goes back thousands of years and not in primitive ways but in ways that philosophy and classic beauty were a way of life!
